Use preterites when talking about something in the past with a definite beginning and end.
Verbs ending in –car -gar or –zar are irregular in the first person preterite.

Conjugate and pair modals to get new meanings.
Change to feminine for m and add mente to the end of adjectives to get adverbs.
If there is more than one adverb in a sentence only add mente to the last one.
Use a conjugated estarand a present participle to form a present progressive.

Use a conjugated imperfect estar and a gerund to form a past progressive.
ex: estaba cantando I was singing
Use a conditional to say would, probably, must have, or could.
