OSSEO/MAPLE GROVE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS ST. VINCENT de PAUL PARISH Vol. 21 No. 10 Osseo/Maple Grove Council 9139 April, 2010 Membership Meeting, 1st Tues., 7:00 p.m. Church Meeting Room Council 9139 Grand Knight’s Message Kevin Ahlers, Grand Knight Non-Profit Org. U.S. POSTAGE PAID Maple Grove, Minn. Permit No. 67 KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS 9792 Urbandale Lane N. Maple Grove, MN 55311 ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 9139 April, 2010 Business Meeting 1st Tuesday of Month Planning Meeting Last Tuesday of Month Kevin Ahlers, Grand Knight Deacon Sean Curtan, Spiritual Advisor Fellow Knights and families, O n the first Easter two women who were devoted to Jesus, walked slowly and sadly toward the tomb where Jesus had been laid. They were heartbroken, and understandably so. They had heard the cry from the crowd for the death of Jesus who they love. They had waited by the Cross through Jesus suffering. Now they headed for the guarded tomb, it is a wonder they did not just turn and run. But the love and devo- tion for Jesus kept their feet moving and a messenger of God met them with the words, ”Do not be afraid.” The two women needed that assur- ance and so do we. Fear is part of our human condi- tion, from the time we are born we experience fear and it stays with us until we die. We fear many things and the list may be long and some- times we are tormented daily by fear. There is the fear of what other people think of us, the fear of being differ- ent from others, the fear of being iso- lated or rejected because of what we think or believe the fear of those who are different from us. When we consider fear as a real condition of our lives we may at times feel overwhelmed. But when we see these two women who are fright- ened approaching the tomb of Jesus with their hearts filled with fear, we can feel their fear. But in the midst of their fear, the women are confronted with words of encouragement. “Do not be afraid,” and we too hear those words “Do not be afraid.” Jesus himself also says those words “Do not be afraid” based upon some- thing as real and as powerful as our fears. And as we face our vulnerabili- ties in life, we are presented at Eas- ter with the truth of the resurrection story. That message is that there are resources of life more powerful than death. Fear can best be overcome by awareness, upon the spiritual power of life and of love. This is the good news of the gospel. The best news that there is, it contains the formula to overcome fear “Perfect love over- comes fear. “ So after the women left the tomb with fear, but with great joy, the fear that they faced was not gone. They also had the joy and they went quickly to tell the disciples what had happened. The Easter message of the resurrection which does not take our fears away but gives us joy, is not to be confined to a day, we are to carry the resurrection message with us all year. So go quickly, go and tell. And those of us who have experienced the power of resurrection, the power of God’s love in our lives, have, like the two women, much to tell and to share. So let us share the Spirit of God’s love in our lives. Yes, whatev- er God has done for you, whatever part of your life has been filled with joy or peace, go quickly and tell. Let your life convey the reality and joy of God’s love to those who need it most. God Bless You All! On the first Easter two women who were devoted to Jesus, walked

slowly and sadly toward the tomb where Jesus had been laid. They were heartbroken, and understandably so. They had heard the cry from the crowd for the death of Jesus who they love. They had waited by the Cross through Jesus suffering.

Fear is part of our human condi-tion, from the time we are born we experience fear and it stays with us until we die. We fear many things and the list may be long and some-times we are tormented daily by fear. There is the fear of what other people think of us, the fear of being differ-ent from others, the fear of being iso-lated or rejected because of what we think or believe the fear of those who are different from us.

When we consider fear as a real condition of our lives we may at times feel overwhelmed. But in the midst of their fear, the women are confronted with words of encouragement. “Do not be afraid,” and we too hear those words “Do not be afraid.”

Jesus himself also says those words “Do not be afraid” based upon some-thing as real and as powerful as our fears. So go quickly, go and tell. And those of us who have experienced the power of resurrection, the power of God’s love in our lives, have, like the two women, much to tell and to share. So let us share the Spirit of God’s love in our lives. Yes, whatev-er God has done for you, whatever part of your life has been filled with joy or peace, go quickly and tell. Let your life convey the reality and joy of God’s love to those who need it most.

More than three years in the mak-ing, the new Lynde’s Restaurant and Catering in Osseo opened its’ new res-taurant to the public on Thursday, May 28, 2009, and is open every day at 5 a.m.

The new restaurant and catering building, along with the landscaping services and offices building, are locat-ed along County Rd. 81, just next door to the former Lynde’s Restaurant build-ing. The old building was torn down and is being used as a parking area. “We will be open like normal,” owner Mark Lynde said. “We will be open un-til 10 p.m.”

The company will be concentrat-ing on the customers, the great food, quality service and fair pricing. “We’ve done that for 28 years and we are stick-ing to it,” added Lynde. “We are trying to stay competitive with the pricing.” The food will still be home-cooked. New to the menu is steak and rotis-serie chicken. All the dressings are also made from scratch.

The restaurant has two kitchens. One will be for the restaurant and one will be for the catering business.

The seating has more than doubled in the new restaurant, from 78 to 160 seats. There is a meeting room that will be used for overflow seating.

The restaurant has a full-service bar for dinner guests. The new Lynde’s res-taurant has eight 52-inch TVs in the dining area, with a stamped concrete floor and a granite bar/countertop. The waiting area also has kids chairs. “If the kids are happy, the parents are happy,”

Lynde said.As for his beer can collection, you

can find it in the entrance to the res-

taurant. “The entryway will be full of them, from the floor to the ceiling,” Lynde said.

“We booked our first party from someone driving on County Rd. 81 and saw our sign,” Lynde said. “That is the first time that has happened in 28 years. Someone came in and said ‘We saw your sign and wondered if you were open and if you could cater a graduation party’.”

The office and showroom building next to the restaurant is where catering manager Cathy Lynde meets with cus-tomers. “One nice thing is that people can sample foods if they like. Cathy can call the restaurant next door and have food samples sent over,” Mark Lynde said.

The back of the office building is a warehouse for the machinery for the lawn care items. Lynde concluded that the old restaurant building had senti-mental value to him. “It had been in my family for 28 years,” he said. “I do want to say that without the help from Landcor and the city [of Osseo], we wouldn’t have been able to overcome the huge obstacles and get the project done.”

It took more than three years to complete, from start to finish Lynde said.

The new Lynde’s Restaurant in Osseo (above). Inside, there are 160 seats with a smooth, stamped concrete floor and a granite counter/bar top. Office and showroom building (right).
