Sometimes it seems that life is nothing but transitions. Transition is the movement or passage from one place to the other. I have seen many transitions during our Interim time as some have moved from one job to another, others have moved parents from one place to another; still others have moved out of relationships and others have entered into new ones. Some have become parents and others - grandparents, aunts and uncles. Over the next few months, people will continue to experience transitions. Students will be moving from one grade to another; others will be moving from one school to another - graduating and moving on to other opportunities. Some will be retiring and others moving to new cities. Transitions are the movement and activity of life itself. Soon you will be calling and receiving an Installed Pastor. But guess what! You also will be entering a new transition. Having a permanent pastor is exciting and important. Expect movement and change to be part of that transition. Dont expect that things will be the samenor should they be. Peter Steinke (and probably others) has said that there is no such thing for a healthy congregation to stay the same. You are either moving towards health or away from it. I believe this to be true. Transitions can become opportunities that we can learn about our faith and what it means to hold on to God as our sole resource. And if we are willing, we also learn more about who we are and what we might need to do to authentically serve our God Almighty. During this transition, you have become a different congregation. You have been challenged to see yourselves in new ways through New Beginnings. You have also experienced trials. As individuals, not all the movement in these transitions have been welcomed. But without movement we deny Gods Spirit to be active within us and in our path of discipleship. The same is true for the body of Christ. Without movement in a congregation, we stifle Gods Spirit to mold us and shape us into the church that God desires for us. When we keep our focus on the one constant in our lives - Jesus Christ - then all transitions in our lives are not to be feared. I invite you to enter into this next transition in the life of Yorba Linda Presbyterian Church with openness and eagerness to learn, listen, see and hear how God wants to continue growing you into the church that he created you to be. Gods mighty blessings as you move into this next transition of your journey! Pastor Ann

Grapevine Transitions, transitions, transitions. Sometimes it seems that life is nothing but transitions. Transition is the movement or passage from one place to the other. I have seen many transitions during our Interim time as some have moved from one job to another, others have moved parents from one place to another; still others have moved out of relationships and others have entered into new ones. You also will be entering a new transition. Having a permanent pastor is exciting and important. Expect movement and change to be part of that transition. Don’t expect that things will be ‘the same’ nor should they be. Peter Steinke (and probably others) has said that there is no such thing for a healthy congregation to stay the same. You are either moving towards health or away from it. I believe this to be true. Exciting PNC News!

The YLPC Pastor Nominating Committee is excited to present the Rev. Lynn Stone as our candidate for installed pastor. Rev. Stone is a graduate of Princeton Seminary and is currently serving as Interim Pastor, HOS (Head of Staff) of a PCUSA church in the Riverside Presbytery. Lynn has deep roots in the Presbytery of Los Ranchos and considers it her spiritual home. She grew up in Orange County and attended Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Rev. Stone has also serve on several Presbytery committees including the Committee on Preparation for Ministry and chaired the Christian Education Committee. She is strongly supportive of the PCUSA and the Reformed tradition while also encouraging ‘healthy change’ for congregations working towards action for a shared vision. Please refer to our letter and brochure which give more information about the process and about Rev. Stone’s background and vision as a pastor. We invite you to get to know our Pastor Candidate for a Meet and Greet on Saturday, June 4 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at YLPC. On June 5, the YLPC Session has called for a Congregational Meeting to elect Rev. Stone as our installed pastor. During the time of worship you will have a chance to hear Rev. Youth Ministry

A Time of Celebration!

In May, student ministries focused on how continuing to grow and walk in our faith can help us be a light to others. We also focused on how we can cope with stressors in our lives by remaining close to Jesus.

June will be a time of celebration for youth ministries. On the evening of June 5, our Sunday Night Fellowship will be an end of year party to celebrate our seniors as well as the journeys of other students this year. On June 12, students will participate in our annual Graduation Sunday service. The students helped plan the service and many of them will be participating in the service as liturgists and greeters. We will honor graduates in our congregation during this service. After service, please join us for cake on the patio.

As we complete one school year, we look forward to a great summer and welcoming those students who are entering 6th grade this fall on Sunday, June 26. For questions, contact Michelle Almeida at [email protected].

Children’s Ministry

Emmaus Road Sunday School In May we studied Life in the Early Church. Children learned about the parts of a worship ser-vice, learned about working as a community by completing a building challenge, and created door hangers that symbolized their beliefs after studying the Apostle’s Creed. In June we will study the Parable of the Sower and the Seeds.

Moving Up On Sunday, June 26, our current 5th graders will move into the Middle School program. Contact Michelle Almeida for more information.

Workshop Leaders Needed for Summer Arts Camp Do you have a special talent or interest that you would be willing to share with others? Do you know someone in the community that you can recommend as a workshop leader? We are looking for workshop leaders for Summer Arts Camp. Workshops last 45 minutes and can be scheduled for one night or up to four nights. Contact Kim Wisnia [email protected]

Session Notes from May

May Session activities included the following: The Session approved April Session minutes and May Congregational meeting minutes. The Clerk

shared correspondence from Ron Shaheen and Dick Keating, thanking elders and deacons for their prayers and prayer blanket. Letters were forwarded to the Deacon Moderator. Membership is at 218.

Examination of Elder-elects Marge Cargo, Don Fields, Doug O’Neil and Karla Peterson and Deacon-elects Allison Lauderdale, Liz Marchant and Judy Robert was conducted by the Session of YLPC. It was passed unanimously to move these candidates to ordination and installation on 5/22.

Worshipful work focused on the Book of Order, F-1.030 to F-104. This evening’s focus was The Mission of the Church. Small group discussions were shared. Elders rolling off the Session shared their wisdom with newer elders and new elders were able to ask questions of those whose terms are ending.

Pastor Ann shared the previously mailed Deacon’s Report, as there was no Deacon rep this evening. Deacons will be asked about helping with the Meet and Greet for the Pastor Candidate. Also, there was a question about the level of assistance with the camping weekend in July. Pastor Ann will contact Shane Hendrickson, the Moderator

The PNC Committee shared that they have selected a candidate for the Installed Pastor position! The candidate has said yes and is very excited to begin their ministry with YLPC. COM meets on June 2 for final approval and a letter and email blast will be sent on 5/19 to the congrega-tion notifying them of the Session-called Congregational meeting on 6/5. A “Meet and Greet” for the congregation will be held on Saturday, 6/4 and a celebration will take place after worship on 6/5. It is estimated the new pastor will begin serving sometime between mid-July and mid-August. Discussion was held regarding the staffs desire to meet with the new Pastor and will be further discussed between the new Pastor, Pastor Ann and the PNC. It was noted that the terms of call were within YLPC’s current budget and that the candidate is from Orange County.

CE emailed a written report and shared the work they are doing with the Summer Arts Camp. Urged people to fill out the blue “interest sheet” and return to Kim.

The Mission Committee emailed a written report. They reminded Session that a fundraiser at Don Jose will be on 6/6 with proceeds going towards backpacks.

Worship Committee emailed a written report and also passed around a Communion sign-up sheet. Communion will be intinction through November. They are working on the “Church Camping Event” on 7/3 in conjunction with the Deacons.

Personnel reported that Elder Hollon attended the staff meeting and discussed job descriptions. Prior elder Marcia Willett will be forwarding what she has. Nursery Care volunteers are being background checked and the need to have someone in the Nursery at the beginning of worship was stressed.

Facilities reported that the new refrigerator in the sanctuary kitchen has been installed and light repairs have been done. Discussion was shared regarding the status of the modular and they will be seeking clarification from the city of Yorba Linda in regard to the timeline for removal. Elder Matt Kelley requested to meet with the CE Elders to discuss creative ways to address the need for storage. They are also fixing the fire extinguishers that aren’t in compliance.

Stewardship shared the financial good news for April. Receipts again were higher than expected and expenses lower than expected once again. Reports were distributed via email. The PILP loan restructure was also approved by Presbytery and Synod and is now being forwarded to PILP for final approval. This will make our monthly payments drop from $4668 to $1922. It will extend the current loan term from 75 payments to 240 payments. There is no prepayment penalty so we can pay off more as funds are available. The process takes 3-4 months and Elder Hebein will keep Session apprised.

The next Presbytery meeting will take place 5/26. Elder Sivley will not be able attend and Elder Hollon will attend the business portion of the meeting. Elder Hebein will check his schedule.

The Pastor’s Report shared prayers for many members in our congregation. She also shared the Power Church software training that was funded through a generous donation went very well. She and Sarah are working hard to get the database cleaned up before the new pastor’s arrival.

A celebration of the outgoing Elders was had. Elders Karen Green, John Israel and Mike Jacobs were thanked for their faithful service and words of appreciation and gratitude were shared.

The meeting was adjourned and closed in prayer at 9:26 PM Copies of the minutes are available for review in the church office with prior request. Respectfully submitted, Chris Hills Clerk of Session
