School Supplies Needed

The United Methodist Women of Oxford have

made 50 school bags that will be distributed by

UMCOR to children in need all around the world.

Now is the time to fill these bags, as they will be

taken to the UMW School of Christian Mission

July 12. Each bag needs one pair of blunt scissors

(not plastic), three 8 ½ x 11 spiral notebooks, one

30 cm ruler, six unsharpened pencils, one 2 ½”

eraser, one pencil sharpener (at least one inch) and

one box of 24 count crayons. Please be sure that

the items DO NOT have any advertisements,

religious, patriotic, military or camouflage on

them. There will be a marked box outside the

sanctuary to collect the supplies through July 8.

Monetary gifts are also welcome. Money can be

given to Louise Taylor, Joan Barr, Bev Davis,

Margaret Mason or Laurel Olson. The children of

the world THANK YOU.

Wednesday Night Suppers

Wednesday Night Suppers are taking a short break

through the summer beginning on Wednesday July

1 through Wednesday, August 29th. Wednesday,

August 29th will be a “Back to School” themed

supper. We truly need help when the Wednesday

suppers start back up in the following ways…

* Cooking/preparing food (Teri Boldt will work

with you to plan the menu.)

* Set up (arrive at 4:30/5:00 to make sure tables

are ready and drinks are made, and help with any

last minute food prep.)

* Clean up (after 6:30 wash dishes, wipe down

tables, take out trash, sweep kitchen floor etc.)

* Shopping for needed food items (would be given

a list)

If you can help in any or all of these areas please

contact Teri Boldt @ [email protected] or 210-

696-0192. We would love to be able to put

together a schedule of workers so that no one

person is being over worked. These suppers really

are a great time to visit and fellowship with others

from Oxford! Please consider being a part of this

ministry.

Sr. High Mission Trip is June 30- July 7 to S.O.S.

Pastor’s Perspective

I have been preaching a sermon series lately called “The World’s Best Boss.” I have wanted us to learn

more about the Holy Spirit. However, as important as learning about the Holy Spirit is, it is even more important to

feel and know the power of the Spirit, to be strengthened by him, to do godly work through him, and to see him

alive and well and working in the lives of others.

June 11 through 15 our middle school youth, some high school “mentors”, and several adult sponsors went

to Mt. Wesley on their annual mission trip. Mt. Wesley, our United Methodist retreat center, is used very hard, and

repair work is constantly needed on it. Our kids worked hard while they were there to help fix up the place.

Now, we like our young people to have the opportunity to work for God. However, mission trips, like all

over-night youth events, give youngsters the opportunity to have devotional time together. During the recent trip,

at the Thursday evening devotional time, the offer was made to the youth to commit themselves to following Jesus

more closely. Some fourteen kids, the majority of the group, in fact, made the decision to give their hearts to Jesus.

Our congratulations need to go to the kids for their extraordinarily important decisions, to the sponsors for

their great leadership, but most of all, we owe our love and thanks to the Holy Spirit for the love and grace he is

showering on our church. Please join me in thanking and praising the Holy Spirit and make sure to ask him to help

you live more fully for Jesus.

Much love,

Pastor John

The Spirit Seekers and Christian Living Today classes have combined for the Summer. This wonderful group of

students led by Billy Ivens and David Holloman are now meeting the Family Life Center Family Room each and

every Sunday at 10:30 am. The Life Change University class has come to an end. We wish to thank Paul and San-

dra Peterson for their leadership of this class geared for married couples. The class had a great run from the Fall of

2012 to now.

Elevate Band News

Hi Oxford brothers and sisters,

I pray that all is well with you and yours. But, if you're experiencing some rough seas, rest assured that God promised

you safe passage and final victory, just as his Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus did. Thank you, Father God!

I'm writing to report on a special event that your ELEVATE Praise Band participated in on Friday, June 8, 2012.

Through Pastor John's encouragement and support, we were invited to lead worship at the service for retiring United

Methodist pastors at Annual Conference in Corpus Christi. The service was held in the main conference hall for about

1500 UM clergy, staff and lay leaders. It was a great experience for our music ministry in many ways but a few stand

out to me:

1. Even though some of the members seemed to have some trepidation about the whole thing, they stepped up and out

of their comfort zone to answer their calling and serve God. And for our music ministry as a whole, that's very impor-

tant. We've been called to serve the Oxford UMC congregation and, to be honest, just like you, we don't always feel

like coming to church. But, sometimes, I believe you have to push through the natural to receive the super-natural. Do

you agree? Have you ever experienced that?

2. For me, and I believe for all the praise team members, it was very spiritually uplifting to lead a group of so many

people singing songs of praise to the Lord. I hope that experience will ignite a desire to share our church with others so

we can experience a full house of worshippers every Sunday at Oxford. Wouldn't that be great?

3. Last, but certainly not least, the experience gave me a greater appreciation for the talents and hearts of our ELE-

VATE praise team members. The group "performed" exceptionally (not a bad word if you perform to give God the

glory). And furthermore, they served with great attitudes, pure hearts and represented Oxford UMC in the best light

you could hope for. Thanks to all my brothers and sisters in ministry.

The best is yet to come!
