What makes us choose certain brands? All basically shaped the same.Wrapped in similar packaging that consists of colorfully printed paper. Candy itself consists of some variation of the few basic ingredients: chocolate, peanuts, nougat, and caramel. They are all priced the same. All are competing to stand out from competition on the shelves. HistoryAt one time, chocolate was something for the wealthy. It was expensive and rare. Good things come in small packages Throughout history, cultures express the preciousness of the contents by making the container special as well. Ex. Swarovski, Tiffany, etc.

Industry and PackagingIndustry relies heavily on packaging for impulse-purchase.

The package must communicate on its own merits.

The design of wrappers can be as important as the actual product.

Main Goal of Wrapper DesignersUse color, patter, and shape to short-circuit consumers mines and induce engagement with the product through its package.

To promote widespread, repeated use of the product and attract the sort of people who are likely to be interested in it.

Ironically, it becomes trash once the candy bar, present, is unwrapped.

ColorMarketing research indicated that over 80% of visual information is related to color. For example: Green is used for organic products (association with trees). Reese uses orange on many of their products.

TypographyVery rarely do package designers change a products font and if they do its slight (outlining, etc.)

Evolution of WrappersBrands are living entities and if they are not treated as such they will die. Studies show that when consumers feel like the product has quit trying they are likely to give up on the product no matter how loyal they may have been.
