The branding in the example to the right has been developed for Driver Instruct Partnership. The client needed a new visual identity for a start-up business that offers support to driving Instructors across the UK.

My job was to build the identity of the company from the ground up, including the logo, brand style guides, document templates, web content and more.

The brief was to create a brand that looked well established, trustworthy and authoritative whilst maintaining an approachable and friendly appearance. Thick lines and solid shapes were used to emanate reliability and authority. These elements coupled with cool colours and approachable, clean fonts help to create a friendly visual identity.

This is the original Driver Instruct Partnership logo. Developed to have a strong visual impact, to be instantly recognisable and unique.

The design uses an abstract birds-eye view of a road system which symbolises movement and action. The cross roads also suggests choice and a change of direction. The word diP Is memorable and the design of the logo allows the word to be read easily, even upside-down.

DRIVING INSTRUCTOR TRAINING COLLEGE

Here is another logo concept I developed for the Driving Instructor Training College, a sister company of Driver Instruct Partnership.

The key messages to portray for this visual identity were growth, choice, action, authority and trust. In a literal sense this logo is directly related to driving with the use of arrows, similar to those on a road sign. Also prominent is the suggestion of choice and a change in direction, with the primary brand colour pointing in the right direction.

In an abstract sense the logo also resembles a tree, which symbolises growth. Trees are also well established in their environment which should help to evoke feelings of trust, authority and reliability.

PARTNERSHIPINSTRUCTDRIVER

In line with the shifting aspirations and goals of the company it was decided in 2015 that a new logo should be developed to place an emphasis on partnership, membership, networking and support. This logo was developed in a much tighter time frame and with a much more rigid brief.

The new five point symbol depicts active members uniting together should to shoulder in the five key operation areas of the business.

On the right is an example of some of the marketing collateral I developed for Driver Instruct. The letterhead has been created as a Word template which is easily reproduced and shared between employees. I used the Raleway font, an elegant sans-serif font for body copy.

Here I’ve used thick blue lines to compliment the weight of the logo and maintain the feeling of solidarity and consistency throughout the collateral. Styles colour and background images were all built into the Word template for ease of use.

This leaflet needed to be full of impact and to start to generate interest from small to medium sized enterprises. The aim was to raise awareness amongst our target audience that road accidents amongst drivers for work had increased and that a qualification Driver Instruct Partnership offered could help reduce the chances that their employees would be involved in accidents.

Here I used striking images of damaged cars, lowering the hue of the image and cropping in close to build a feeling of tension. Using a bold font helped to emphasise the risks involved with driving for work and the importance of the qualification.

This poster was developed to promote a safe driving course to college students.

The challenge here was the amount of content required on the poster. Since these posters were to be displayed in busy colleges , I negotiated to have the copy reduced and re-focused on career development. The revised copy was much more appealing to the target audience, but there was still quite a lot of copy to place.

To solve this problem I used a strong text hierarchy and the leading lines of the image to keep the poster interesting and eye catching. I then placed the less important information in a smaller font underneath the title.

This is a concept I created in Photoshop to help illustrate my thoughts on how the branding should be translated in a digital environment.

I emphasised usability and simplicity so members and potential customers could find exactly what they need with little to no effort. Everything just one or two clicks away. The borderless design complimented by images full of motion helped to signify moving forward, taking action and breaking down barriers.

This concept has not yet been implemented online due to technical and budget limitations, however it is design that will be considered in the future when the website is redeveloped in WordPress.

As a start-up company Driver Instruct Partnership needed to maximize efficiency and minimise cost. Rather than investing heavily in stock photography or spending lots of time and money developing illustrations I decided to build a set of Icons. Whenever time was short I could choose an Icon I had premade to illustrate copy or help users navigate the website.

On the right you can see a small selection from the library of Icons. The challenge here was keeping icons consistent in size and appearance so that they all appear to be part of the same set and are associated with Driver Instruct.

For this freelance job, I created a logo and branding, business cards and also took the photographs of the UDIDIT car in various locations. The brief requested modern and minimalist visuals that attract attention without being too outrageous.

My primary intention with this branding was to create a simple and easily recognisable brand. Most driving instructor cars are full of information and are very busy. I designed this logo to stand out and be legible, even at a distance or when moving at speed on the side of a vehicle. Advertising and generating income through the website was the priority here.

This project has been one of my most successful design projects, attracting the attention of new pupils on multiple occasions generating work for both myself and my client. Eventually leading to my full time employment as a Graphic Designer at Driver Instruct Partnership.
