Assignment 1.1 Reverse Engineering[13-01-17]
assignment1.1
The first assignment, titled “Reverse Engineering” was concerned with the creation of an assembly using five components. The initial component, in my case a square, was scored, scaled and bent. This was repeated five times.

The first component was placed within larger components to create a snake-like structure. The different components were linked to create an assembly using metal wire.

Assignment 1.1 Reverse Engineering[13-01-17]
part B
The second part of the assignment involved exploring our assembly in a digital realm. The most evocative assembly was chosen to be explored on performative grounds, especially to further the performance in part A.

Assignment 1.2 The Seven Syllable Assignment[13-02-10]
assignment1.2
The second assignment, titled “The Seven Syllable Assignment”, was a parametric design practice. We were to take our component and attempt a parametric extrapolation of form based on previous test models. This created my design, Waterworks.

Assignment 1.2 The Seven Syllable Assignment[13-02-10]
Waterworks is an interactive installation which reacts to the weight of the water. The varying sizes of troughs act as containers for the weight and are able to briefly alter their position. This freedom is a result of the assembly (shown below).
The installation itself is a system, whereby the components interact with each other. There is a feeling of precariousness which is attributed to these connections and its dynamic nature.
Overall, the installation was a result of a progression and evolution of component and connection simultaneously. However, the transition from physical fabrication to digital fabrication and from digital fabrication to physical fabrication resulted in a simplification of the original idea and the original component; creating a need to re-evaluate the processes involved. The innovation, instead, lends itself to the connection in order to create an interactive piece.

The model and diagram assignment was the beginning of an antithesis to assignment 1. Instead of the creation of an assembly without an initial performance in mind, the performance was the assignment. To create a shot glass holder.

Assignment 2b Assembly in Site[13-03-05]
assignment2b
Assignment 2b was the evolution of the previous assignment assembly based on an extreme environment. In my case, this environment was Mariana’s Trench. My creature reacted to the pressure changes which occur at such depths, by unraveling as the pressure decreases.

Assignment 2c Three Performances[13-01-17]
assignment2c
Assignment 2c continued to explore how our component reacted in the extreme setting of Mariana’s Trench. Three different reactions occurred to the surroundings: a current barrier, a current conduit and a nutrient sink all developed. These creatures were the result of parametric design informed through site conditions.

COMPONENT TYPOLOGY
Assignment 2d involved the continued exploration of a parametric design; however, with performance requirements addressing a particular creature in our extreme environment. My creature “Edulis Obice” grew along the walls of Mariana’s Trench capturing food and offering refuge for feeding fish and small sea creatures.

Two faced is a multi-family housing development which is revealed to the residents through discovery. At first, the stark front seems abrupt, until one realizes is frames the inner activities of the main corridor. The light from the units spill into this space and hint at the transparency inside. As you walk through the space, translucency begins to be introduced into the facade, strategically to interact with pedestrians. Finally, along the south face, the transparency of the unit is framed and open to the community. The journey to discover the two faces.
