Sep 1, 2015 Dr. J.D. Sheffield State Representative HD59 PO Box 704 Gatesville, Texas 76528 Dr. Sheffield: First allow me to thank you for attending the Erath County 4H banquet on the 13 th of this month where our 4H members were recognized for their efforts and achievements over the past year. It was gracious of you to attend as a special guest for these kids during their special evening. On behalf of the good people of HD59 I felt the need to address an issue regarding our impending race against one another for the Texas House of Representatives. This is based on our discussion the evening of the 4H banquet and on the article I read in the August 21 st edition of the Killeen Daily Herald. It is also based on the rendition of your speech in Copperas Cove by the KDH coupled with your voting record in the 83 rd and 84 th legislatures. It would seem logical and more appropriate that you file for re-election under the Democratic Party. This simple action would allow you, should you be re-elected, to caucus with the party that seems to be more aligned with your views, allow you to gain more support from constituents who currently refuse to support Republicans, and it would allow you to freely express your political philosophy throughout the entire campaign. If you were to choose to file as a Democrat I believe we could offer all voters in HD59 a clearer choice of candidates based on their personal political preferences versus the stark contrast that we will otherwise present only to Republican primary voters. At present your views on the 2 nd Amendment, life, immigration, healthcare, taxes, and overall liberty do not align with the Republican Party platforms. These platforms were established by the most recent RPT or RNC conventions, neither of which you attended. I believe it’s important to give all voters in HD59 a clear choice between political philosophies in the general election. I hope this letter finds you well and you will offer consideration to my suggestion. In either case, I wish you safe travels during the upcoming election season and thank you for your service as a doctor to the good people in Coryell County and to the Great State of Texas – while we may disagree on the issues, your service and sacrifice is appreciated. Sincerely, Brent R. Graves
