The Photographer’s House

2007/02 - Arquitecture and City Planning - Universidade do Vale do Itajaí

Studio title: Urbanism Project II and Architecture Project II

Studio tutors: Renato Saboya, Sérgio Torres, Heloisa Moura and Luciano Tricarico

Designated Site: Neighborhood of São Judas Tadeu, Balneário Camboriú, Brazil

Program: It was a shared project between two subjects. The Urbanism tutors had me design the entire urban environment for the large empty lot, while the Architecture tutors had me design a house for one of the lots for a family of four including a photographic studio for the father to work in.

Computer programs used: AutoCAD

Quick Project description: A large natural park was created around the river to protect local fauna and flora. The street next to the park is a mixed zone to keep the area busy at all times as to not attract crime into the park. Lots were also selected for a school, a kinder garden and a public doctor’s office.Lot 51 was selected for the photographer’s house. The house is simple, but has all the commodities for a family of four.

Breath of LifeStudio title: Architecture Design Studio: Air

Studio tutor: Finnian Warnock and Paul Loh

Designated Site: Princess Freway – Wyngham City gateway

Program: design a gateway for the City of Wyngham that will signal the entrance to the Greater Melbourne.

Computer programs used: AutoCAD, Rhino, Grasshopper, Photoshop, InDesign and Sketchup

Models made by: Rhino, laser cutting and hand cut

Quick Project description: The class was divided in groups of four students. My group decided to keep the history of the area in mind so we used the aboriginal stories of the area as inspiration. The snake is present in many of their stories and it was our start point for our design. We wanted our sculpture to appear alive and breathing and created cells that resemble the snake scales.

Barlow MotorsStudio title: Architecture Design Studio: Fire

Studio tutor: Karina Piper

Designated Site: 20-28 La Trobe St, Melbourne

Program: design a building for Alexander George Barlow, a highly innovative, but slightly shady businessman. The building must house a car dealer, a car service area, 300 space car parking, a bachelor apartment and a rooftop 9 hole mini golf course.

Computer programs used: AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, as well as hand drawings.

Models made by: hand

Quick Project description: I see Mr. Barlow as inventive, original, and a little eccentric. He was someone who really enjoyed the attention. My design is slightly eccentric and brings the “big things” into the city of Melbourne. The building appears to be a large pile of tires made of glass and metal.
