THE GREAT COMMISSION IN

TEN PARTSPart 2

Page 2: Great Commission 2

PART TWO: THE OBLIGATION:

GOThe five accounts of the

Great Commission are in:Matthew 28; Mark 16;

Luke 24; John 20; Acts 1.

Page 3: Great Commission 2

There are ten subjects relating to the

Great Commission in these

five chapters.

Page 4: Great Commission 2

There are six points that will help us to understand the importance of this second

part of the Great Commission. GO!!

Page 5: Great Commission 2

Whom does it mean?

1.This obligation was first given to the apostles.

Matthew 28:16 NET So the eleven disciples went to Galilee to the

mountain Jesus had designated. 17 When they saw him, they

Page 6: Great Commission 2

worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came

up and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on

earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make

Page 7: Great Commission 2

disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the

name of the Father and the Son and the Holy

Spirit,

Page 8: Great Commission 2

2.They obeyed God rather than men .

Acts 5:29 NET But Peter and the apostles replied, "We

must obey God rather than people. 30 The God of our

Page 9: Great Commission 2

forefathers raised up Jesus, whom you seized and killed by hanging him on a tree. 31 God exalted him to his right hand as Leader and

Savior, to give

Page 10: Great Commission 2

repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are witnesses of these events, and so is the Holy

Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him."

Page 11: Great Commission 2

Acts 8:4 NET Now those who had been

forced to scatter went around

3. The early church as a whole also went everywhere with the

gospel.

Page 12: Great Commission 2

proclaiming the good news of the word.

Acts 17:6 NET When they did not find them, they dragged

Jason and some of the

Page 13: Great Commission 2

brothers before the city officials, screaming, "These people who have stirred up

trouble throughout the world have come here too,

Page 14: Great Commission 2

4. Today, this obligation is mine. 1 Peter 3:15 NET But set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the

hope you possess.

Page 15: Great Commission 2

Why should we go?

5. We should go because Our Master said so. Colossians 3:17 NET

And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in

the name of the Lord

Page 16: Great Commission 2

Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

1 John 5:3 NET For this is the love of God: that we keep his

commandments. And his commandments do not

Page 17: Great Commission 2

weigh us down, 6. We should go because we

love the truthJohn 8:32 NET and you will

know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Page 18: Great Commission 2

John 17:17 NET Set them apart in the truth; your word is truth. Psalms 1:1 NET How blessed is

the one who does not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand in the pathway

Page 19: Great Commission 2

with sinners, or sit in the assembly of scoffers! 2

Instead he finds pleasure in obeying the LORD's

commands; he meditates on his commands day and night.

Page 20: Great Commission 2

3 He is like a tree planted by flowing streams;

it yields its fruit at the proper time, and its leaves never fall off. He succeeds in everything he attempts.

Page 21: Great Commission 2

4 Not so with the wicked!Instead they are like wind-

driven chaff. 5 For this reason the wicked cannot withstand

judgment, nor can sinners join the assembly of the godly.

Page 22: Great Commission 2

6 Certainly the LORD guards the way of the godly, but the

way of the wicked ends in destruction. Psalms 119:1 NET How blessed are those whose

actions

Page 23: Great Commission 2

are blameless, who obey the law of the LORD. 2 How blessed

are those who observe his rules, and seek him with all

their heart, 3 who, moreover, do no wrong,

Page 24: Great Commission 2

but follow in his footsteps. Ephesians 4:15 NET But

practicing the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Christ, who is the

head.

Page 25: Great Commission 2

Why should we go?

We should go because we love souls

Ezekiel 3:17 NET "Son of man, I have appointed you

a watchman for thehouse of Israel.

Page 26: Great Commission 2

Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you must give them

a warning from me.18 When I say to the wicked, "You will certainly die," and

you

Page 27: Great Commission 2

do not warn him you do not speak out to warn the wicked to turn from his wicked deed

and wicked lifestyle so that he may live that wicked person

will die for his iniquity,

Page 28: Great Commission 2

but I will hold you accountable for his death. 19 But as for you, if you warn the wicked

and he does not turn from his wicked deed and from his

wicked lifestyle,

Page 29: Great Commission 2

he will die for his iniquity but you will have saved your own

life. 20 "When a righteous person turns from his

righteousness and commits iniquity, and I set an obstacle

Page 30: Great Commission 2

before him, he will die. I bring him to trial by placing difficulties and temptations in

his way. It is true that God tempts no man in order to his

destruction, but in the

Page 31: Great Commission 2

course of His Providence He permits men to be tried in

order that their faith may be approved, and in this trial

some who seem to be righteous fall. (Barnes)

Page 32: Great Commission 2

If you have not warned him, he will die for his sin. The

righteous deeds he performed will not be considered, but I

will hold you accountable for his death.

Page 33: Great Commission 2

21 However, if you warn the righteous person not to sin, and he does not sin, he will

certainly live because he was warned, and you will

have saved your own life.”

Page 34: Great Commission 2

Luke 19:10 NET For the Son of Man came to seek and to

save the lost." Matthew 16:26 NET For what does it benefit a person if he gains

the whole world

Page 35: Great Commission 2

but forfeits his life? Or what can a person give in exchange for his life? John 15:13 NET No

one has greater love than this that one lays down his life for

his friends.

Page 36: Great Commission 2

Why should we go?

We should go because we want to put first things first.

Matthew 6:33 NET But above all pursue his

kingdom and righteousness, and all

Page 37: Great Commission 2

these things will be given to you as well.

1 John 2:15 NET Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the

world, the love of the Father is

Page 38: Great Commission 2

not in him, 16 because all that is in the world (the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the arrogance produced

by material possessions) is not from the Father,

Page 39: Great Commission 2

but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away with all its desires, but the person

who does the will of God remains forever. Colossians

3:1 NET Therefore, if you

Page 40: Great Commission 2

have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is,

seated at the right hand of God. 2 Keep thinking about

things above, not things

Page 41: Great Commission 2

on the earth, 3 for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. They

died, but they are not dead. Yet the world does not see their true life, the eternal

Page 42: Great Commission 2

principle within. Their life is in Christ, and can never be fully manifested until he

shall be manifest; but When Christ…appears then the glory and the blessedness

Page 43: Great Commission 2

of the life in us shall be shown forth. Like the tree in the

winter, not dead, but the life hidden. When the spring

comes, its life shows itself in glory.(PNT) 4 When Christ

Page 44: Great Commission 2

(who is your life) appears, then you too will be revealed in glory with him. 5 So put to

death whatever in your nature belongs to the earth: sexual

immorality,

Page 45: Great Commission 2

impurity, shameful passion, evil desire, and

greed which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the

wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience. 7 You

also

Page 46: Great Commission 2

lived your lives in this way at one time, when you used to live among them. 8 But now, put off all such things as anger, rage,

malice, slander, abusive language from

Page 47: Great Commission 2

your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another since you have put off the old man with its practices 10 and have been clothed with

the new man that is being renewed in knowledge

Page 48: Great Commission 2

according to the image of the one who created it. 11 Here there is neither Greek nor

Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian,

Scythian,

Page 49: Great Commission 2

slave or free, but Christ is all and in all. 12

Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and dearly loved, clothe

yourselves with a heart of mercy, kindness, humility,

Page 50: Great Commission 2

gentleness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another

and forgiving one another, if someone happens to have a complaint against anyone

else. Just as the

Page 51: Great Commission 2

Lord has forgiven you, so you also forgive others. 14 And to

all these virtues add love, which is the perfect bond. 15 Let the peace of Christ be in

control in your heart (for

Page 52: Great Commission 2

you were in fact called as one body to this peace), and be

thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom,

Page 53: Great Commission 2

singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your

hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do it to in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through

him.

Page 54: Great Commission 2

Who said to go?

It is the Father’s plan for all people to hear His

will. Isaiah 2:2 NET In the future the mountain of

the LORD's temple

Page 55: Great Commission 2

will endure as the most important of Mountains,

and will be the most prominent of hills. All the nations will stream to it, 3 many peoples

will come and say, "Come, let

Page 56: Great Commission 2

us go up to the LORD's mountain, to the temple of

the God of Jacob, so he can teach us his requirements,

and we can follow his standards." For Zion

Page 57: Great Commission 2

will be the center for moral instruction; the LORD will

issue edicts from Jerusalem. 4 He will judge disputes between nations;

he will settle cases for many

Page 58: Great Commission 2

peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares, and

their spears into pruning hooks. Nations will not take up

the sword against other nations, and they

Page 59: Great Commission 2

will no longer train for war. Ephesians 3:10 NET The

purpose of this enlightenment is that through the church the multifaceted wisdom of God

should now be

Page 60: Great Commission 2

disclosed to the rulersand the authorities in the

heavenly realms. 11 This was according to the eternal

purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord,

Page 61: Great Commission 2

Jesus specifically gave the command to “Go” in the

Great Commission. The Holy Spirit inspired the

written message which says, “Go”.

Page 62: Great Commission 2

2 Timothy 3:16 NET Every scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for

reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17

that the person

Page 63: Great Commission 2

dedicated to God may be capable and equipped for

every good work. 1 Corinthians 2:1 NET When I

came to you, brothers and sisters, I did not come with

Page 64: Great Commission 2

superior eloquence or wisdom as I proclaimed the testimony of God. 2 For I decided to be

concerned about nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified

Page 65: Great Commission 2

3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and with

much trembling. 4 My conversation and my

preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom,

but with a

Page 66: Great Commission 2

demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith would not be based on human wisdom but on the

power of God. 6 Now we do

Page 67: Great Commission 2

speak wisdom among the mature, but not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of

this age, who are perishing. 7 Instead we speak the

wisdom of God, hidden in a

Page 68: Great Commission 2

mystery, that God determined before the ages for our glory. 8 None of the rulers of this age

understood it. If they had known it, they would not have

crucified

Page 69: Great Commission 2

the Lord of glory. 9 But just as it is written, "Things that no

eye has seen, or ear heard, or mind imagined, are the things God has prepared for those

who love him."

Page 70: Great Commission 2

10 God has revealed these to us by the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who among men knows the

things of a man

Page 71: Great Commission 2

except the man's spirit within him? So too, no one knows the things of God except the

Spirit of God. 12 Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit

Page 72: Great Commission 2

who is from God, so that we may know the things that are freely given to us by God. 13

And we speak about these things, not with words taught

us by human wisdom, but with

Page 73: Great Commission 2

those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to

spiritual people. 14 The unbeliever does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him.

Page 74: Great Commission 2

And he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually

discerned. 15 The one who is spiritual discerns all things,

yet he himself is understood by no one.

Page 75: Great Commission 2

16 For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to advise him? But we have the mind

of Christ.

Page 76: Great Commission 2

How should we go?

There is no single method given, so we

have the right to go in any Biblically lawful and expedient way.

Page 77: Great Commission 2

This means we can go by foot, animal, car, plane, mail,

internet, print, TV, radio, etc. But we must “GO”! Not

everyone can GO to a mission field. We see in Paul's letter to

Page 78: Great Commission 2

the saints in Philippi if we can’t go, our money can. Philippians 4:15

NET And as you Philippians know, at the beginning of my gospel

ministry, when I left Macedonia, no

Page 79: Great Commission 2

church shared with me in this matter of giving and

receiving except you alone. 16 For even in

Thessalonica on more than one occasion you sent

something for my need.

Page 80: Great Commission 2

The going should be after preparation [or during it]

2 Timothy 2:15 NET Make every effort to present

yourself before God as a proven worker who does

When should we go?

Page 81: Great Commission 2

not need to be ashamed, teaching the message of truth accurately.

1 Timothy 4:16 NET Be conscientious about how you live and what you teach. Persevere in

this,

Page 82: Great Commission 2

because by doing so you will save both yourself and those

who listen to you. 2 Corinthians 13:5 NET Put yourselves to the

test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves!

Page 83: Great Commission 2

Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you unless, indeed, you fail the test! The going should be NOW –

millions of people will die this year –

Page 84: Great Commission 2

we cannot delay “going.” The going should be for the rest of our lives.Revelation 14:13 NET Then I

heard a voice from heaven say, "Write this: 'Blessed are the

Page 85: Great Commission 2

dead, those who die inthe Lord from this moment on!' "Yes," says the Spirit,

"so they can rest from their hard work, because their deeds will follow them."

Page 86: Great Commission 2

What am I doing about it?

Maybe I am one of those Christians who uses one of

these excuses –

“I don’t know enough.”

Page 87: Great Commission 2

“I have no time.”“I have no talent along these

lines.”“The weather isn’t right for this

work.”“My health forbids it.” On the other hand, maybe

Page 88: Great Commission 2

I am one of those Christians who is growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord, becoming more useful and productive in His vineyard

Page 89: Great Commission 2

If so, I am already involved in the going – across the

street and around the world in every way I can

2 Peter 3:17-18 NET Therefore, dear friends,

Page 90: Great Commission 2

since you have been forewarned, be on your guard that you do not get led astray

by the error of these unprincipled men and fall from your firm grasp on the truth.

Page 91: Great Commission 2

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the honor both now and on that eternal day.

1 Peter 2:2 NET And yearn like newborn infants for

Page 92: Great Commission 2

pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up to salvation, Hebrews 5:12 NET For though you should in fact be teachers by this time, you need someone

to teach you the

Page 93: Great Commission 2

beginning elements of God's utterances. You have gone back to needing milk, not

solid food. 13 For everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced in the

Page 94: Great Commission 2

message of righteousness, because he is an infant. 14

But solid food is for the mature, whose perceptions are trained by practice to

discern both good and evil.

Page 95: Great Commission 2

Acts 8:4 NET Now those who had been forced to

scatter went around proclaiming the good

news of the word.

Page 96: Great Commission 2

The “Go ye” of the Great Commission also means

“Go me”!But first, I must “come”

to Him…
