BEST OF BREED (No defeated dogs will be allowed to compete) - The following categories of dogs may be entered and shown in Best of Breed competition: Dogs that are Champions of Record. Dogs which according to their owners records have completed the requirements for a championship but whose championships are unconfirmed. The entry and showing of dogs whose championships are unconfirmed is limited to a period of 90 days from the date of the show where a dog completed the requirements for a championship according to the owner’s records. If, at the end of the 90 day period, the championship of a dog has not been confirmed by AKC, no further entries of the dog for Best of Breed competition are to be made until its championship has been confirmed by AKC.

GRAND CHAMPION JUDGING PROCEDURE On May 12, 2010 the Grand Championship competition will start concurrent with the implementation of the 2010-2011 Schedule of Points. Competition for this new title will be judged concurrently with Best of Breed/Variety competition at both all-breed and specialty shows. All Champions of record that are eligible to be entered in Best of Breed/Variety competition, are automatically entered in competition for points toward the “Grand Champion” title when they are entered in the Best of Breed/Variety class at a dog show. Dogs and bitches that have earned their Championship and moved up to the Best of Breed/Variety as well as winners from the *Non Regular classes would be eligible to compete on the day. Neither Winners Dog nor Winners Bitch is eligible to compete for “Grand Champion” points. There are no additional entry fees or cost to exhibitors for the participation in this competition at AKC events. The Grand Champion competition is an extension of the traditional system to earn an AKC Championship on a dog. It is simple, similar in format to that used to finish a dog, and, because it focuses exclusively on competition at the breed level, it will add minimal time to the current judging process. The Best of Breed/Variety judge will award Best of Breed/Variety, Best of Winners, Best of Opposite Sex, *Select Dog and *Select Bitch. This is simply adding two placements and two additional ribbons for the Select Dog and Bitch to be awarded. Judges may withhold any Grand Champion awards at their discretion. The Best of Breed/Variety judge will be required to certify that awarding of Grand Championship points are to eligible and deserving dogs. *Non Regular class winners that are not Champions of Record are not eligible to be awarded Grand Championship points and any points awarded would have these points disallowed administratively by the AKC. The Select Awards have no relationship or correlation to Awards of Merit and judges should continue to review the premium list for criteria in making these awards.

PARADE OF CHAMPIONS - All entrants will receive a Blue and Gold Rosette PARADE OF VETERANS - All entrants will receive a Red, White and Blue Rosette

NON-REGULAR CLASSES INVOLVING MULTIPLE DOG ENTRIES

Stud Dog Class - For dogs that have sired two dogs or bitches entered in this show. The award will be based on the merits of the get. The owner of the stud dog need not be the owner of the get. As the judge's decision in this class will be based on the merits of more than one dog or bitch, no one of the dogs or bitches making up the entry judged first in the class, will be eligible to com-pete for Best of Breed by virtue of having won this class. The Stud Dog must appear in the ring with his get and be entered in the Stud Dog Class. Brood Bitch Class – Same as Stud Dog, except replace brood bitch for stud dog and produce for get. Brace Class - For two dogs or bitches with identical ownership. Team Class – For four dogs or bitches with identical ownership.

My journey in Great Danes began in 1973 when my husband Joe and I got our 1st Great Dane. She was a pet. We knew nothing of quality or show dogs back then. We just loved the breed and so it

began. over the years we always owned and loved Danes but in the

mid 90’s we decided we wanted to get a show quality Great Dane and so we did! We found my mentor and now partner in Danes Ms. Jill Swedlow she had a litter of pups and only had one more pup available and so I got last pick of the litter!! The last pick turned out to be a gorgeous girl who went on to get her Championship quite easily and was my foundation bitch her name was Ch Sunnyside

We have been very lucky with our successes in the breed and have produced over 20 champions since my 1st litter in 1999 with very limited breedings. Along the way I have been so

fortunate to have shared our Danes with so many wonderful fami-lies and without them none of this would be possible. I am an ac-tive member GDCofAZ and current Vice president and education chairmen. I am thrilled and honored to be asked to judge the GDCSD ‘s puppy Sweepstakes.

The Great Dane Club of San Diego Sweepstakes are open to all dogs and bitches 6 months of age and under 18 months of age on the day of the show.

Sweepstakes entries must be entered as an additional class and at an additional fee of $10.00. Mark entries for "Sweepstakes" in space provided for additional classes on the Official AKC entry form and on the same form and at the same time as for Regular Classes. Be sure to designate appropriate age and sex division.

Nancy J. Perrell I began my love of dogs with a Great Dane my family had while I was growing up. After marriage and a new home, our first dog was a Great Dane, which we bred in 1968. We kept one puppy from the litter and finished his Championship. We had several other Champi-ons over the years. It became evident at the time that if we wanted

to show our own dogs, we needed a different breed. We purchased a

Standard Longhair Dachshund, finished him, and began a life with dachshunds that has continued. We have over 25 Champions mostly finished from Bred By Exhibitor. We also have shown and finished an English Cocker and bred a litter of whippets. we became active in several local specialty clubs – great dane, dachshund, whippet, and national - dachshund. I am currently

their AKC Delegate. I have served as President, Show Chair, and in many other capacities for all the clubs I belong to.

I am currently approved to judge Dachshunds, Irish Wolfhounds, Great Danes, and Junior showmanship. I hope to apply for additional breeds in the near future.

Cathy De. La Garza My family has been involved with breeding and exhibiting dogs for

two generations. My grandparents were a great influence in exposing me to many aspects of animal husbandry from an early age. One of my grand-fathers brought his Danes into the US from Denmark and the other

was a top field blue tick coonhound breeder. My grandmother trained and sold herding dogs. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents growing up, and they were important influences in

shaping my career in dogs. I bred my first litter at age 11 (toy Manchester terriers because my parents wouldn’t allow me to have a Great Dane). In the late 1960’s, once I was old enough to move out of the house and purchase my first Great Dane, I began a lifelong passion for the breed. Over the years have owned Champions in black, brin-

dle, fawn and harlequin and have bred blues, blacks, harlequins and mantles.

In addition to Great Danes, I have bred or owned Champions in Rottweilers, Danes, Malamutes, Italian Greyhounds, German Shorthaired Pointers, Miniature Pinschers, Miniature Bull Terriers, Wire Fox Terriers, English Springer Spaniels, Dachshunds and Ibi-

zan Hounds. I owned the first Best In Show Ibizan Hound in the U.S. I am currently licensed to judge 19 breeds in four different groups (Working, Hound, Terrier and Toy) and I love them all. In addi-tion to judging in the U.S., I have judged in New Zealand and In-

dia, and look forward to international assignments in the fu-ture. In 2009, I became an AKC Delegate. I have turned my love

of dogs over the last fifty years into an exciting second career, and I enjoy mentoring and finding ways for people to participate in our sport
