RE: Boundary Changes

September 2017, which will require all of our
families to relocate to a new school. The
registration process for this will take place at
the beginning of April 2017 and information
will be sent to you at that time for the on-line
registration process.
Both Barrie Wilson School and Mountview
School, however, would like to start planning
for next year and have asked our community
to provide some information regarding your
plans for next year. Please complete the
information requested in the letter that is
coming home with your child(ren) today.

ACCOUNTABILITY PILLAR
As an annual check-up on the education system,
the Accountability Pillar provides an opportunity
for Alberta Education and school authorities to
ensure that we are equipping students for success.
The Accountability Pillar uses a set of 16
indicators consisting of surveys of students,
parents and teachers on various aspects of quality;
student outcomes such as dropout and high
school completion rates; and provincial
assessments of student learning.
From January to the end of February, Alberta
Education will be conducting the annual
Accountability Pillar Survey. In January, parents
of students in grades 4 will receive a survey from
Alberta Education. In February, students in
grades 4 and all teachers will be completing their
surveys online at school.
All surveys are anonymous and ask questions
about experiences with the school. In addition to
English and French, the parent survey is available
in Chinese, Punjabi, Arabic, Blackfoot, Cree,
Korean, Spanish, Tagalog and Urdu.
Caring for Our Environment
As the temperatures
become colder,
please be aware that
idling of your vehicle
around the school is
discouraged.
Choir News
The Grandview Choir will begin
again in February.
Mark your calendar for the Choir
Kids performance on May 1 with
the Red Deer Symphony.
DONATIONS, please Prizes, Prizes...Golden Gecko Draws To reinforce our C.A.R. E. values, students receive
C.A.R.E. coupons when they have demonstrated
one of these values. Random monthly draws are
made from these coupons and students are
awarded prizes at the Assembly.
Parents who may wish to make cash donations or
donate prizes for this monthly draw, may drop
donations off at the office.
National Non-Smoking Week was created to achieve the following goals:
to educate Canadians about the dangers of smoking;
to prevent people who do not smoke from beginning to smoke and becoming addicted to tobacco;
to help people quit smoking;
to promote the right of individuals to breathe air unpolluted by tobacco smoke;
to denormalize the tobacco industry, tobacco industry marketing practices, tobacco products, and tobacco
use; and
to assist in the attainment of a smoke-free society in Canada.
This year's theme is: Tobacco Free for Life...Choose Now!
Tobacco use has long been recognized as an addiction, resulting in the deaths of half of its users1. It is the
leading cause of preventable illness, disability and premature death in Canada2 and the leading cause of
preventable death worldwide3. Further, medical and scientific evidence demonstrates that second hand smoke is
hazardous to a person’s health as there is no safe level of exposure.4
Approximately 69% of smokers want to quit smoking (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2012).
