    Customer Issues:

In late 2008, Great Lakes Cold Storage received a grant opportunity to upgrade its facility in Solon, Ohio. The grant includedlighting but had to be installed and verified before the end of 2008. Energy Focus began the project in November of 2008

and successfully completed the project before the Christmas Holiday.Great Lakes Cold Storage received benefits of a lighting load reduction of 45% annually and a payback of less than 2 years

on the lighting upgrade. The total environmental impact this lighting project has equates to 308,000 kilowatts of energysaved. In other words it has the same impact as 49,315 trees planted or 65 cars removed from the streets.

Lighting Solution:Because Great Lakes Cold Storage operates in temperatures below -30 F it could not rely on fluorescent technology to

work. The commonly used T-5 and T-8 solutions do not perform in this environment as the mercury cannot reach highenough temperatures to emit light properly. The end result is dimly lit areas violating OSHA regulations and IES building

standards. Energy Focus chose to use its 320 watt pulse start metal halide HighBay fixtures equipped with dimmableballasts to allow for maximum energy savings and compliance for working areas. Furthermore, LED technology was used

on the shipping docks to replace 100 watt halogen lamps with 15 watt LED DockLights, decreasing energy consumptionsignificantly while increasing the light levels in the trucks and railcars during loading and unloading. The entire project fromsurvey to finish took less than 6 weeks and by December holiday time both teams were celebrating a winning project.

Great Lakes Cold Storage is one of Northeast Ohios premier cold storage facilities based out of Solon, OH. In cold storagefast and accurate service is key in maintaining the integrity and freshness of all products at all times. GLCS is known for its

amenities including convenient loading docks, spacious rack areas and outstanding customer service. When the two teamscame together they created an instant synergy. Energy Focus team knew that time precision and speedy installation was

imperative in making this project a success.
