Sacrament of Baptism: Expectant parents must attend our Baptism Preparation Program which is offered monthly. Baptism is the first and most important Sacrament as it introduces us to the Faith. Baptisms are offered on the First Sunday of the month at the 11:30am Mass and immediately following. Call the Parish Office to schedule a baptism and to make arrangements to attend our Baptism Program. Sacrament of Marriage: Arrangements should be made well in advance of an intended marriage, at least six months and even up to a year prior. Please call the Parish Office to arrange an appointment with the Pastor. Attendance at the Marriage Preparation Program is required. Sick and Hospital Visits: Please let the Parish Office know if you have a family member who is ill at home or in the hospital so we may add them to our prayer list and arrange, if appropriate, for visits from our Homebound Ministry and the Pastor. The Gift of Humility

We learn humility in different ways. Sometimes we try to attain what is beyond our reach. We try to accomplish something we desire to attain. We fail. We humbly learn our limitations.

Sometimes we boast of our accomplishments. We have achieved much and we tell others the truth. But we lose the esteem of our friends when we do. Boasting might be honest, but humility brings rewards.

Still, some people erroneously believe that humility is weak and pride is strong. Some public figures—entertainers, politicians, and professional athletes, for example—boast in the midst of combat. They want attention. They disdain the competition. Their success depends on their self-certitude.

Their fall is all the more sharp. In the end, even the most talented share the same mortality as everyone else. We are all humans. We shall all taste death. In the sight of God, humility is the only honest stance we can take.

The Book of Sirach urges us to conduct our affairs with humility. We will be loved by others and favored by God. We will recognize that in spite of our gifts, there is One who is greater: the giver of these gifts. When we acknowledge the might of God, humility becomes a way of life.

Are You Thirsting For God?

Are you someone who would like to learn more about your Catholic Faith? Do you know someone not bap-tized or baptized in a non-Catholic Christian tradition, who is thirsting for what it means to become Catholic?

Do you know someone already Catholic but has not yet received Confirmation & Communion?

Others may be thirsting too…

For each of us faith is a journey marked with moments of conversion along the way…we move from unbelief to initial faith, from sin to repentance, from painful isolation to the joyful experience of a loving community, from fear to love.

Faith, conversion, repentance, celebration and community ---five basic elements that are present in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). The RCIA provides a setting where the journey of faith and moments of conversion can be celebrated within the local Church community.

RCIA is a place to ask questions and seek understanding. Come and See! Invite a friend! All are Welcome! RCIA meets Sunday’s at Little Flower School from 10:15 A.M. to 11:15 A.M. For more information, contact the Parish Office at (301)994-0525.

Sunday Faith Formation serves all parish children.

Weekly sessions for Pre-K through 8th Grade meet

on Sundays from 10:15am to 11:20am. Two years

of faith formation are usually required prior to

reception of the Sacraments of First Reconciliation,

Eucharist and Confirmation. We always welcome

new team members as catechists, substitutes, hall

monitors and teen assistants.

Children's Liturgy of the Word is seeking

male volunteers as both teachers 20+ and

teen helpers 13-17. If you have a knack

with young children, we'd love to have you

join our team as our church family can use

positive male role models! Training, lesson

plans, and fingerprinting session are provid-

ed. Liturgy year runs after Labor Day

This Month's Supreme Chaplain’s Gospel reading and Challenge

“Gird your loins and light your lamps and be like servants who await their master’s return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival.” (Gospel for Aug. 11, Lk 12:35-37)

Semper Paratus — Latin for “always ready” — is the motto of the U.S. Coast Guard, but it also could serve as a motto for you and me in the Christian life. In this Gospel passage, Jesus calls us to constant vigilance. My brothers, whether it’s day or night, we cannot allow our perimeter to be breached by any of the powerful temptations to anger, possessions, lust or other sins. Tomorrow is not guaranteed to any of us. You and I can recall someone whose sudden death reminds us that we do not know when we will be called to account. May our master find us vigilant on his arrival!

Challenge by Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William E. Lori:

This month, I challenge you to exercise daily vigilance through the time-tested practice of a simple examination of conscience at the end of each day before going to bed. I also challenge you to watch with vigilance with your council through the Faith in Action Holy Hour program, or by spending some time in eucharistic adoration on your own.

Questions for Reflection:

Is looking at your phone the first and the last thing you do each day? In this age of distraction, are there ways you can sharpen your vigilance and focus to better pay attention to what is truly important? Did examining your conscience daily help increase your vigilance in your life?

The Archdiocese of Washington Office of

Child Protection & Safe Environment has

issued updated guidelines for adults

working directly with children. Effective

immediately, all employees, clergy,

religious and adult volunteers who work

directly with children (including Catechists

and all other Faith Formation Parent

volunteers, CLOW Leaders, Sacristans,

Children's Choir Directors) are required to

comply with current Child Protection

requirements. This includes completing a

Volunteer Application, enrolling and

attending a "Protecting God's Children"

class and fingerprinting. Any volunteers

from last year that work directly with

children are now required to be

fingerprinted by January 31, 2020. If you

are a new volunteer, you must be

fingerprinted before you can participate

in activities working directly with children.

You will be contacted by the Parish Office

if you are required to be fingerprinted.

have enough information packets for

Are you 18 or older? Are you a Catholic in good standing and attend Mass on a regular basis? If you answered yes to these two questions, then please consider volunteering to be an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion! We provide the basic training to get you started and we ask that you attend an Archdiocesan EMHC Worship on November 23rd so you will be certified. Please prayerfully consider becoming a part of this important ministry. Contact the Parish Office to set up training.

Do you like to read? Are you comfortable talking in front of an audience? If so, please consider becoming a Lector at the Mass you normally attend. All masses are in need of lectors! Training is available and we ask that you attend an Archdiocesan Lector Worship on November 23rd so you will be certified. A workbook will be provided to you to help you prepare to read. Piano Players Needed!

If you play piano or keyboard and enjoy learning new songs, you can contribute to the Holy Face music ministry without ever having to play live at Mass! We are looking for piano/keyboard players willing to learn a new song about once a month (we can work with your schedule). You will have ample time to practice it at home; then we will record your playing into the choir loft keyboard at whatever tempo you choose (we can speed it up or slow it down later). “Disciples of Hope” - Camp Maria and St. Mary’s Ryken High School have teamed up to present DAN SCHUTTE in Concert & Retreat!

This is a rare opportunity to experience firsthand, the music and ministry of Dan Schutte, composer of “Here I Am Lord”, “City of God”, “Sing a New Song” and many others. The concert will be held on Friday, September 13, 2019 from 7pm-9pm, in the Rom Hall, St. Mary’s Ryken High School, 22600 Camp Calvert Rd, Leonardtown, MD. Cost is $20 for Concert for non-students and $10 for any student.

The retreat will be held Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 9am-Noon (check in and light breakfast from 8am-9am) at Camp Maria Retreat Center, Dining Hall, 41290 Camp Maria Rd, Leonardtown, MD. The retreat cost is $35.
