{ }SADAQAH JARIYAH is a charitable act that has

ONGOING benefit to the recipient(s). The giving of

Sadaqah Jariyah BENEFITS THE DONOR even after

they have PASSED AWAY, for as LONG as people

receive help from the donor’s charity.

One of the most pressing challenges facing the world today is access to clean drinking water. Over a billion people are each day forced to drink dirty water and to put themselves at the risk of contracting a multitude of life threatening illnesses.

Poor health due to unclean water prevents many from being able to work, attend school or work their way out of the cycle of poverty.

MH has in recent years increasingly focused on larger community water schemes. From large underground water storage systems in Sudan

to sophisticated water pumping systems in Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine, each scheme serves thousands of people.

MH has installed over 10,400 Tube-wells to date, and in the last 3 years alone, has completed 790 water wells.

SAFE WATER AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF A SADAQAH JARIYAH PROJECTTube-wells last over a decade, and ground wells can last for generations - serving countless thousands of people with fresh, clean drinking water

TUBE WELLSA single tube well will serve 2-3 families with water to drink, wash and cook for at least 10 years. Tube wells are manually operated and lift filtered water up to about 100 feet beneath the ground with minimal maintenance. We have tube wells projects running throughout Pakistan, Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Kashmir.

£160

DIG-A-WELLOur dig-a-well programme serves large groups of people, from schools to masjids. These are bigger installations where 25-30 families can benefit from a single well. With projects currently running in Niger, Sudan, Afghanistan and Kashmir, dig-a-well is providing many communities with fresh, clean water.

£550

GROUND WATER WELLSOften, ground wells are used to draw water fromgreater depths than tube-wells can reach. They are invaluable resources for communities who depend on agriculture and farming. Each well serves over 300 families and their livestock. Many have been built in Palestine, Lebanon, Sudan, Senegal and The Gambia

LIVELIHOODSOUR INCOME GENERATION SCHEMES HELP PEOPLE WORK THEIR OWN WAY OUT OF POVERTY

Help MH provide OPPORTUNITY - the opportunity to work, the opportunity to provide for their families, the opportunity to give their children the chance of a brighter future. MH Income Generation Schemes have two main approaches:

1. Provide job-skills training to individuals. Helping young people to gain recognised qualifications and skills as electricians, plumbers, IT workers etc.

2. Supply small grants or interest-free loans in the form of money, tools or livestock etc. to enable individuals or groups to become self-sufficient. Examples in recent years include poultry and sheep farms, handicraft shops, honey production and snack shops. Local MH staff also provide support to ensure the ventures become stable and profitable.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

SET-UP A POULTRY FARM Your donation will provide a large pen, 75 egg-laying chickens, feed, training and on-going veterinary support to a needy rural family. Each hen lays over 200 eggs per year - providing protein and nutrition, and remaining eggs will be sold to pay for food, clothing and medicine.

SET-UP A SMALL SHOPYour donation will provide a needy person with funds for the construction of a small shop and initial stock. Costs vary depending upon location and type of shop.

MISS KAZI VISITS HER SADAQAH JARIYAH EYE CAMP IN BANGLADESH

Miss Helena Kazi (standing in picture), a donor from Birmingham, raised over £2,000 for her Gift of Sight Camp held in Kamrangirchor, Dhaka, Bangladesh, and travelled to Dhaka to witness first hand the running of her project.

Alhamdulillah, over 250 patients were screened for cataracts (and other eye conditions) and 35 patients had their sight restored during her visit.

“The trip to Bangladesh was a fantastic experience that allowed me to see the instant results a small Sadaqah Jariyah projects like this has on people’s lives. There is a need for similar eye camps all over South Asia.”

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED LEND A HAND, MAKE A DIFFERENCE With Ramadan round the corner (yes! it really is approaching that blessed time) there is much to do.

Preparations for the Iftar feeding programmes that will reach almost 50 countries, and organising the orphan gift distributions etc. are some of the activities one might easily imagine... but none of them are possible without the tremendous effort our volunteers put in months before and during Ramadan.

Indeed, our volunteers help us accomplish many of our short and longer-term goals in all areas of MH activities.

PLANT A TREEOR THREE“Muslims will always earn the reward of charity for planting a tree and sowing a crop, then birds, humans, and animals eat from it” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Planting trees is probably one of the most wellknown and exemplary forms of Sadaqah Jariyah as trees go on serving people and animals for many generations. At MH, we plant tens of thousands of trees every year on behalf of donors. Since 2005, over 250,000 olive trees have been planted in Palestine alone!
