Thank you and goodbyeWhat an amazing three years I have had at Nemingha Public School! After a 40 year career in teaching, it is time for my retirement and venture into the next chapter of my life! It is a bitter sweet moment in my life as Nemingha Public School has been the ‘icing on the cake’ in my career. Although I am very sad to be leaving, I am leaving with happy memories of the wonderful, fun-loving children and caring and supportive staff. I will miss everyone dreadfully.

My partner, Paul, and I have been presented with the opportunity to go into a small business, and although a little nervous, we are quite excited about the prospect.

I would like to thank the whole Nemingha community – staff, children and parents for making my time at Nemingha Public School the most memorable period in my teaching career.

Ms Toni Reid 5/6R teacher

HIGH SCHOOL TRANSITIONParents are reminded that expressions of interest for high school must be returned to Nemingha Public School by 20 March.

Goodbye Ms ReidIt is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Ms Toni Reid tomorrow. Toni has been a valued member of Nemingha staff since 2017 and has decided to retire and relocate to Gunnedah. Toni has been teaching for 35 years and over that time has never lost her passion for teaching.

We will miss her dedication to the students in her class and support with many school activities.

She initiated the Student Representative Council in 2018, which has been so successful under her guidance involving the senior classes with “student voice”. The staff will miss her support and her wonderful sense of humour.

Starting next Monday the children in 5/6R will welcome Miss Georgia Wall, who comes to us from Dubbo where she taught at Macquarie Anglican Grammar School all of last year.

“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”

P and C Fundraising News

Last Thursday evening a group of proactive fundraisers met at the Longyard to discuss this year’s fundraising events. Our favourites will remain unchanged, such as Mother’s and Father’s Day stalls, the Gingerbread House Night and Bunnings BBQs.However, in the coming weeks I will be launching a Pie Drive in conjunction with Watson’s Kitchen in Narrabri. So please start to get your freezers ready in anticipation of pies, lamingtons and pastries. This year we will see the return of our infamous P&C Dinner Dance and, as a final hoorah, our jolly President has selected a very fitting theme of ‘Christmas In July’. The event will be our major fundraiser for the year and as such I require suggestions of any raffle items or prizes that could be offered on the night. If you have an idea of who we may be able to approach or if your place of business could assist us please reach out.The proceeds of these events will go towards the volleyball court upgrade project and annual travel expenses, so any business names or contacts that would tie into this may also help. I can be contacted on my mobile if you wish to discuss your ideas.Bec Jordan, Fundraising Co-Ordinator0428 717 987

The annual Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) collects information about Australian school students who receive an adjustment to address disability.Nationally consistent information on students in Australian schools receiving adjustments for disability enables schools, education authorities, and governments to better understand the needs of students with disability and how they can be best supported at school.

Every year, our school collects the following information for each student receiving an adjustment due to disability:

y the student’s year of schooling y the student’s level of adjustment y the student’s broad type of disability.

Data collection will commence in August and further information will be provided closer to the date.

SPORT REPORT

Regional swimmingOn Monday 12 Nemingha students travelled to the Area Swimming Carnival in Armidale to represent the Tamworth Zone. The students were fine ambassadors for our school, competing well in the pool and showing excellent sportsmanship. Our three relay teams swam well, all being placed in the top 15 out of a field of 24 teams. Congratulations to Porscha Ring, who will represent our area in 11 year girls 50 metre breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and 100m freestyle, Eric Russell in the 11 year old boys 50 metre breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly, and Jiah Kelly, who will represent in the 10 year old 50 metre freestyle. The State swimming finals will be held in Sydney in April.

Rugby Union 7s Gala DayWe have had a great response to the invitation to participate in the gala day on Thursday 19 March. There are still opportunities for the girls in years 3/4 and 5/6 to gain a spot. This is an opportunity to learn how the game is played, with only seven on the field at a time and in a relaxed, teaching environment. This day has been arranged to coincide with the Waratahs game over the weekend and we are hoping that some of the Waratahs players will come and meet the students. If your daughter is interested, please contact the office and fill in a note. Training will be on the next two Wednesdays. Please note that it is a contact sport and players will need a mouthguard.

Basketball trialsCongratulations to Harrison Hamilton, who was the first student to gain a place in a North West team for State Championships. He participated last Friday in several games and skill drills to make the team. He will now continue with training on Sundays before the State carnival next term at Terrigal.
