CONCERT:Stay Warm With Tibert!

A high energy and fast paced interactive presentation. Young wallflowers will be enchanted by their friendly host, TiBert le Voyageur (pedagogic interpreter, Robert Malo). He juggles, tells stories and plays the mouth harp and harmonica. Better yet, TiBert encourages kids to be kids. During the show, they’re encouraged to ask questions, paddle imaginary canoes over Niagara Falls and dance whenever the mood strikes. It’s a show for everyone. Hé ho!

Métis in the Making

Metis women were able to move between roles by using their skills and their knowledge of the environment around them. Using objects, maps and historic research on real fur trade characters, your students will ''build'' a metis lady!

Kitchen Party(with Roger Dallaire)

Storytelling, singalong songs, traditional melodies, foot-tapping and humour… Roger’s interactive shows break the fourth wall and guarantees a unique experience for audiences. As kids interact with his stories and songs they also discover French-Canadian language, history and culture.

Treaties and Alliances with Indigenous Peoples

Learn about one of the first treaties ever signed in Manitoba. Using real copies of the Tobacco Treaty, our interpreters will help your students understand the complex relationships between settlers and Indigenous peoples in the Red River Valley.

Woven In Time: Sash-Weaving

Discover the techniques and history that created the iconic symbol of French Canadian and Métis culture: the ceinture fléchée. In this workshop, your students will learn how to finger-weave by creating their own bracelet, headband or bookmark.

Meet a couple of North West Company voyageurs ready to do business.

International Snow Sculpture Symposium

The snow sculptures are works of art created by internationally renowned artists. Please respect these works of art and refrain from touching and climbing the sculptures!

Flying Canoe Play Area

Canoe races, giant pick-up sticks, giant puzzles, giant sash and meet the sculpture artist David Perrett.

Hill Play Area

REGISTRATION

PROCESS

1. COMPLETE THE REGISTRATION FORMThe online registration form as well as the faxable form can be found at heho.ca. In order to be officially registered to the program please fill in all fields listed on the registration form. Ensure that you include your email address as well as a fax number to facilitate all communications. If this information is not provided, your registration will be filed as incomplete and will lose its place in the queue.Reservations will be accepted as of October 3, 2017 at 8 a.m.

2. CHOICE OF ACTIVITIES Please note that we cannot guarantee your first choice.

a. Consult the workshop overview at the beginning of this guide in order to determine your choice of activities. Identify the desired number of activities and mark them in order of preference in the REQUESTED ACTIVITIES’ section. The number of places per workshop is pre-determined, therefore, your choice is not guaranteed. Please indicate your desired lunch space.

b. Allow our reservation agents to make a selection for your group by simply indicating the number of activities desired and/or the maximum amount you wish to spend per student. We recommend this option if you register at the end of the reservation period.

3. STATE ANY SPECIAL NEEDS AND COMMENTS ON THE FORM

a. IF YOU SPECIFIED YOUR CHOICE OF ACTIVITIES: If the requested activities are available, the School Program Coordinator will include them on your schedule. If they are not available, the School Program Coordinator will suggest alternatives by email and/or telephone.

b. IF YOU DID NOT SPECIFY ACTIVITIES: Festival du Voyageur will create a schedule for your group, respecting the number of activities and/or the maximum cost per student specified.

7. INVOICING Festival du Voyageur will send a confirmation of your registration as well as a copy of your invoice. On your registration document you will find a confirmation number. PLEASE keep note of it in order to facilitate all future communications, inquiries, and procedures, including invoicing.

8. RULES AND REGULATIONS – MODIFICATIONS/ CANCELLATIONS/ REFUNDSa. Since there are several fixed costs associated to the Great-West Life School Program, the Festival du

Voyageur will not issue refunds due to illness, absenteeism or due to bad and/or severe weather.b. All Great-West Life School Program components are subject to changes and cancellations

without notice.c. Festival du Voyageur will not issue refunds for bus breakdown or bus cancellations by the schools

or school divisions. d. The cancellation deadline is January 24, 2018. No refunds will be made after this date.e. The deadline to bring modifications to your reservation is January 24, 2018. No modifications

will be made after this date.f. A REFUND MAY BE ISSUED IF:

• An activity is cancelled and not replaced without notice by the Great-West Life School Program (refund is for the activity in question only)

• There is a change to your reservation before January 24, 2018.• You decide to cancel your reservation before January 24, 2018.

9. PAYMENT a. You will receive an electronic copy of the invoice.b. Invoices are to be paid within 30 days of issue. If payment is not received prior to event, students

will not receive passes.c. If we do not receive your payment within the timeframe mentioned above, your reservation may

be at risk of being cancelled. Please make sure to verify the due date on your invoice.d. Please indicate your confirmation number when making your payment. If your school division

is paying for your outing, please request that your school name and your confirmation number appear on the cheque so that we may identify your payment as complete. We accept: Visa, Master Card, debit, direct deposit, cash, or cheque.

For secondary schools following a semester system: Teachers may reserve up to 50 spaces for students without paying a reservation fee. Upon the start of the second semester, payment will be due in full.

FESTIVAL DU VOYAGEUR QUILTHelp us to create a gigantic patchwork quilt made by your students! This year we will include a piece of cloth that your class can decorate in any way they choose. The goal is to sew all the pieces together and display the finished product at next year’s Festival. Please drop off your class's quilt square at the Info Centre (located near the heated bathrooms).

RESERVATION ACCEPTED FROM OCTOBER 3, 2017 TO JANUARY 24, 2018

DATES: The Great-West Life School Program starts on Friday, February 16 and runs from Tuesday, February 20 to Friday, February 23, 2018.

HOURS: Activities are scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Departure from the park must be no later than 3 p.m.

All programming on Friday, February 16 and Tuesday, February 20 will be presented in French. Please note that programming offered on Wednesday, February 21, Thursday, February 22 and Friday, February 23 are presented in English. COST:

TEACHERS / ACCOMPANYING ADULTSAccompanying adults must arrive with their group or they will be refused entry to the site unless prior arrangements have been made with the School Program Coordinator.

Kindergarten to grade 6: A maximum of one adult supervisor for every six students is allowed access with the group at no extra charge.

Grade 7 to 12: A maximum of one adult supervisor for every 10 students is allowed access with the group at no extra charge.

Any additional adults will be charged $12. They must arrive with their group.

In their visit kit, teachers and accompanying adults will receive identification bracelets to be worn the day of the event. This will assist our staff in monitoring adults entering the park to ensure your students' safety. No bracelet=No entry. Thank you for your cooperation.

INFORMATION

Festival du Voyageur will not be held responsible for any theft or loss of items that may occur while visiting Voyageur Park or any of the Great-West Life School Program sites.

Festival du Voyageur along with its partners and volunteers will not be held responsible for accidents that may occur on the Voyageur Park grounds or any of the Great-West Life School Program sites.

Teachers are entirely responsible for maintaining DISCIPLINE and supervising their group(s.)Please attend to your group at all times.

There is a registration fee of $6.50 per student. The cost of individual activities varies between $2.00 and $4.00. GST is applicable to all registration fees. You must select a minimum of 1 activity appropriate to your students' grade level.

LUNCH TIMESpending the entire day at the Great-West Life School Program? Let us reserve the space that best accommodates your activity schedule.

• Lunch seating will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.• Groups participating for a full-day will be assigned a lunch space.• Place lunches in labeled boxes and take them to your assigned lunch space or leave them in your

bus if possible.• Menus of vendors on site will be posted on the website, heho.ca, in February. • Lunch space availability is subject to change.• Schools visiting for a half-day will not be assigned a place for lunch.• In order to accommodate everyone, lunch spaces are provided for a length of 30 minutes.

NUT ALLERGIESPlease advise your students not to bring any nut products into the Great-West Life School Program sites for the safety of those sensitive or allergic to nuts.

INFO CENTREIf you and your students are looking for free activities to do or need directions to your activities, please visit the Info Centre, located near the heated bathrooms. Our helpful staff is more than happy to assist you!

HOW TO DRESSIt is strongly recommended to ask your students to dress warmly: winter coat, snow pants (or warm undergarments), tuque and/or ear muffs, scarf and/or neck warmer, mittens, two pairs of socks and a warm pair of boots. It is February in Manitoba, after all!

A GREENER FESTIVALThe Festival du Voyageur is becoming greener. In our efforts to do so, we wish to reduce the use of paper throughout the registration process. We therefore encourage emailing over faxing whenever possible.

Recycling and garbage bins are available inside all tents as well as on park grounds. Please encourage your students to keep our park and city clean by properly disposing of their garbage and recyclable items.

Voyageur Park is designated as a NON-SMOKING zone during the Great-West Life School Program.Smoking is not permitted on-site. Thank you!

DELAYSIn order to respect other schools taking part in the same workshops, we will attempt to start as scheduled. We will not be starting presentations from the beginning to accommodate late incoming groups.

LIMITED ACCESS – Fort Gibraltar and othersThe Maison du Bourgeois, Fort Gibraltar and Maison Chaboillez are open only to those who have registered to attend activities within these buildings.

POCKET MONEYIt is recommended to bring some pocket money for the following: the horse drawn sleigh rides, maple taffy, mini-doughnuts, fries, souvenirs, etc...

TRANSPORTATION EXIT INSTRUCTIONS When your school-bus arrives onsite, a volunteer from our parking team will board your bus and give you a number. Please keep this number with you and make sure that your students and accompanying adults also know the number!

If this number is even, your group will exit at the service entrance (#12 on your school program map). If this number in odd, your group will exit at the main entrance (#1 on your school program map). When you have your entire group and are ready to leave the site, please proceed to your designated exit. Give your number to the volunteer at the exit and they will call another volunteer in the parking lot to locate your bus and bring it to your exit. This may takes a few minutes. Please ensure that your bus driver is with his or her bus when you want to leave!

FIRST AID SERVICES These services are available within Voyageur Park. Please consult the Park Map before your visit to know its exact location. Please report any incident occurring in the park with our staff at the Info Centre.

ACCOMPANYING ADULTSAccompanying adults must arrive with their group or they will be refused entry to the site unless prior arrangements have been made with the Festival du Voyageur.

DEPARTURE FROM THE PARK FOR A STUDENTTo ensure the security of the Great-West Life School Program, each student must be accompanied by an adult who is signed up with the Great-West Life School Program in order to leave the site.

LOST STUDENTS - PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR STUDENTS PRIOR TO THE OUTINGStudents who are lost may find their way to the Info Centre where our staff will assist them in locating their group. They may also find help with any Festival employee - wearing a yellow smock or period costume. Please share this information with students.

To ensure students’ safety, any student needing to leave the site must be accompanied by an adult.

LOST AND FOUNDHave you lost or found something? Items may be dropped off or claimed at the Info Centre with our staff during the Great-West Life School Program hours. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that your lost item(s) will be found. During the festivities themselves, you may claim lost items at Voyageur Park or call 204.233.ALLÔ (2556) to locate items. Lost and found items are kept for a month following the Festival du Voyageur at our offices located at 233 Provencher Blvd.

OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHER You’ll find a Field Trip Authorization Form and Authorization for Publication Form for parents to fill out in the annex to this guide as well as in the School Program section of our Festival du Voyageur website.

It is important to note that Voyageur Park will be accessible to the official Festival du Voyageur photographers at all times, including during the Great-West Life School Program. Schools are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions from parents. Teachers are responsible for ensuring that students that do not have the necessary permissions are kept away from sight lines during photo shoots.
