Teli, who ran handicrafts busi- ness in Bangalore was found dead in Mumbai mysteriously. He had come to Mumbai and was living with his cousins at Mira Road. The protestors shouted anti- Mumbai police slogans. “Parvaiz was murdered… his body had visible marks of torture and cigarette burns. He had received injuries on his legs and arms had marks of rope tying,” the protestors said. “See the torture marks on his (Teli’s) body. The body is itself speak- ing that it was not a train accident but a cold blooded murder. Had it been the train accident how he could have received injuries, cigarette burns and rope tying signs on other parts of the body,” questioned Teli’s brother Fir- dous. He alleged that his relatives at Mumbai where Teli was staying are being threatened by Mumbai police not to make any statement seeking justice. While rejecting the police version about the death of Teli, protestors said every Kashmiri is a suspect in other states. “Our struggle for justice would continue till the accused are booked and punished,” they said. Pertinently, Teli’s mysterious death sparked protests in Srinagar City after his family claimed that he was tortured to death in Mumbai. Mumbai and Railway police in their statements had claimed that Teli died of injuries in a train accident between the Dadar and Elphinstone Road stations on July 9. They said that Teli was hit by a train while trying to cross the tracks. Ironically, J&K Police has said that it will depute an Additional Superintendent of Police along with other officials to establish circum- stances leading to Teli’s death in Mumbai.
