Skepta winning a MOBO Award for a weirdly brilliant video which only cost him eighty British pounds! He came onstage dressed in Sports Direct gear and didn’t change a thing about his attitude. Whether you found the fact that he came to a ‘suited and booted’ red carpet event dressed like a “chav” cringe or not, what matters is that he represented what Grime stood for and still stands for in its purest form and didn’t care what anybody had to say about it. To us, that deserves KUDOS. There’s no doubt that Culture Clash was indeed one of the biggest events in Grime this year especially because sh*t loads of people attended and watched it on a live stream. It was also supported by monster drink brand Red Bull. It was an epic moment as we Chase and Status, David Rodigan Shy FX, Tempa T and BBK all on the stage together battling for triumph. I can’t wait for next years’ Culture Clash! Greatest Moments in Grime 4

There’s no doubt that 2014 has been a phenomenal year for Grime. Last year, we witnessed the revival of the gritty sounds of the underground and not only that but the genre finally grasping glory with both hands in the presence of ITV, BBC, online and beyond! Grime came back with a bang like nothing we ever expected and the success it endured last year has taken the likes of Stormzy and Skepta to higher heights and greener pastures. Here, we draw up a short list of Grime’s greatest moment in 2014.

Grimes golden boy who spontaneously made the decision to quit his job and focus on music full time, flew past all the other youngers (*whispers* like Kozzie) there before him in the scene that had been and trying to earn THAT spot. The kids only been here five minutes and he’s already won a MOBO for Best Newcomer, been put on the BBC Sound List of 2015 and been involved in many lucrative deals! Stormzy is the guy many are calling the Grime scene saviour for his unnoticeable input in the comeback of Grime music.

Dizzee Rascal returns to his roots. Who would have believed that the guy who seemed like he had forgotten where he came from would come back to stay like he never even left? Chart topper and Mercury award winner Dizzee has collaborated with the likes of Fekky and participated in a couple of 1xtra freestyles. He’s also released an interesting ninja themed video for his song ‘Pagans’ where he does a bit of role play acting. Not bad, Dizzee.

Wiley releases his 10th studio album ‘Snakes and Ladders’. The Grime Lord reportedly spent £25,000 on the album and featured on it are the likes of Cam’Ron, Stormzy and Solo 45. He is one of the only few Grime artists to release an album this year and the album is a solid reaffirmation of his respected status in the UK scene.

Everyone in the scene seemed to be doing something interesting this year and it wasn’t always music. Tinchy Stryder made history when he became the first Grime emcee to ever grace the reality TV show, I’m a Celebrity! Don’t tell me you didn’t watch the show especially because he was in it! The star was the 5th contestant to get voted out of the game and managed to stay out of petty arguments unlike some of the other contestants.
