COLLINS PARK BREAKFAST - 5th JANUARY 2020 25 members attended the 1st club event for 2020 being the Collins Park Breakfast.

Parked on top of the hill at Lloyd

We departed the club rooms at 7.40am for the short drive to Lloyd where members inspected the latest subdivision in that suburb, which is approaching completion.

Our time at Lloyd gave Bob and his team time to cook a BBQ breakfast at Collins Park.

The birthday boys

The park had obviously copped a storm event during the night as it was strewn with branches and a bunya pine had had its top snapped off perhaps 10m from the top. Some senior attendees reminisced of when the zoo was located in Collins Park.

Relaxation at its best

Air quality from the bush fires was OK whilst we were there but deteriorated to unhealthy in the afternoon. Thanks to Bob for organising this event and to the helpers who have a good BBQ down to a fine art.

Stuart Le Lievre, Events Director.

BAREFOOT BOWLS - SATURDAY 18TH JANUARY 2020

The atmosphere of the gathering was boosted right from the start when the Condons arrived at the Club rooms with sherbet cones for everyone. Having a sherbet had been the subject of some banter on email in the prior days, initiated by Rocky. We departed at 5.15pm for a short run via North Wagga to Gobbagombalin where members noted the growth of that neighbourhood since our last visit, and further extension to the north.

The first computer dates back to Adam and Eve. It was an Apple with limited memory, just one byte. And then

everything crashed. Onlinefun.com

Rocky having a sherbet

Then on to the CSU where we skirted around the northern and eastern roads of the Uni. We were back to the Rules Club just after 6pm for a quick drink then the first of 2 rounds of bowls prior to a BBQ dinner.

Strategy was the all important element for the night!

Member talent at bowls varied from pitiful to miraculous. The gutters got a workout. We resumed bowls after dinner with mixed degrees of improvement. Some grabbed a coffee prior to moving on to Maccas for an ice cream. Alan and Lawrie enjoyed a Seniors Coffee. I believe all members had an enjoyable evening.

Look at the spread on those bowls!?

Stuart Le Lievre, Events Director.

RESTORATION PROJECT COMPLETE

Congratulations to Ian Holgate on finishing his “Fergie” restoration. It has done a few laps up and down the drive but hasn’t been out into the paddock to do some serious work yet.

5 AUSSIE AUTO FACTS YOU PROBABLY DIDN'T KNOW Cars play such an underrated part in the lives of millions of Australians. Just try to imagine getting to work, the shops, visiting friends, or taking a long road trip in the height of summer without one! 1. Australia is the 6th biggest country in the world (after Russia, Canada, China, USA & Brazil), measuring 7.692 million square kilometres. It’s the world’s largest island and the world’s smallest continent, and home to 810,236km's of bitumen or concrete road surface. That’s a truck load of driving bliss to explore!

2. When the Sydney harbour bridge opened in 1932, cars paid double the price than horses to cross the bridge. 3. There are almost as many vehicles on the road in Australia (14 million) as there are adults. 4. The average Australian drives 14,000km a year. With over 13 million vehicles on the road, 182 billion kilometres are covered every year – enough to travel to Pluto and back almost 20 times! 5. The male lyrebird, native to Australia, can mimic the calls of over 20 other birds. If that’s not impressive enough, it can also perfectly imitate the sound of a car alarm.

Three boys are in the school yard bragging about their fathers.

The first boy says, 'My Dad scribbles a few word on a piece of paper, he calls it a poem, they give him $50.' The second boy says, 'That's nothing. My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a song, they give him $100.' The third boy says, 'I got you both beat. My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a sermon, and it takes eight people to collect all the money!

PRESIDENT ANNIE

TO ALL OUR DEAR MEMBERS

RE: PUBLICITY OFFICER ROLE – VACANCY

Our Club has a vacancy for a “Publicity Officer”. To keep the Club running smoothly, we need positions to be filled on the Committee, otherwise it places an extra workload on the already busy Committee members. This will almost certainly be the case with the 2020 June Rally fast approaching.

The Committee would be very grateful to our Members if someone could “put up their hand” for the Publicity Officer role.

If anyone is interested in this role, please give me a call and I will be only too happy to discuss with you.

So until we meet again, stay safe and happy motoring
