Doric Architecture

The Doric style is simple and severe reflecting the more martial nature of the Dorian invaders

The Doric style was more formal and austere. The architecture follows the rules of harmony. Doric columns stood directly on the flat pavement

of a temple without a base; their vertical shafts were fluted with 20 parallel concave grooves; and they were topped by a smooth capital that flared from the column to meet a square abacus at the intersection with the horizontal beam

Ionic Architecture

The Ionic column is more artistic and elegant with rolled volutes

The Ionic order became dominant in the Hellenistic period, since its more decorative style suited the aesthetic of the period better than the more restrained Doric.

Ionic columns normally stand on a base which separates the shaft of the column from the stylobate or platform

Corinthian Architecture

The Corinthian column is the most intricate of all with capitals in the shape of acanthus leaves

The Corinthian order was said to have been invented by an architect, Callimachus.

the Corinthian order was actually seldom used in Greek architecture. It came into its own in Roman practice

Proportion is a defining characteristic of the Corinthian order
