recognition of this movement, Kaplan, a premier provider of education services for more than 70 years, has focused its new Kaplan College Guide 2009 for the fi rst time on environmentally responsible schools and green careers.

Released today, the Guide, produced by Kaplan Publishing, features 25 green private and public colleges from across the nation. The section provides students with a look inside the classroom, around campus, and at student life, while shining a spotlight on what’s good for the globe at each college. The Guide also profi les 10 hot green careers -- from environmental engineering to geothermal development -- and includes interviews with professionals from each. The green schools and careers profi les are not rankings. Instead, they give students interested in sustainability and conservation well-researched ideas and a cross-section of options.

“Our guide is designed to help students get into schools and prepare for careers that will enable them to make a meaningful and positive impact on our planet,” said Jason Palmer, contributing editor to the Kaplan College Guide 2009. “We’re offering objective information to students who want to be better global citizens -- not just today, but throughout their lives.”

To develop the Guide, editors gleaned insights on green schools and professions from a wide array of constituents, including admissions directors, parents, students, and professionals. Kaplan reviewed a range of criteria to formulate its list of 25 green schools. Now Colleges Are Getting ‘Green Rating’

AP - Jobs related to the environment and alternative energy are touted as the next big growth sector by hiring fi rms. Institutions and corporations extol their own eco-virtues.

And now Princeton Review, one of the handbooks of college rankings-starved parents and high schoolers, will assign a ‘’green rating’’ to higher education.

The rankings, developed in tandem with ecoAmerica, an environmental marketing agency, are based on the university’s commitment to environmental responsibility, whether ‘’healthy and sustainable’’ campus life is available for students and how well the school teaches its students to be good environmental citizens.

Classes about the environment, greenhouse gas reduction goals and recycling programs are all taken into account.

AASHE To Host 2nd Biennial Higher Education Sustainability Conference and Expo The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education will hold its second biennial conference and expo in Raleigh, North Carolina, November 9-11.

The event is the largest gathering of its kind in the country. Over 1,000 participants are expected from every sector of the higher education community. Refl ecting this year’s theme - “Working Together for Sustainability: On Campus and Beyond” - AASHE is partnering with Sustainable North Carolina to offer a special tradeshow: “Sustainable Solutions Expo Green Solutions for Campuses, Businesses and Institutions.” The Green Leaders Environmental Career Center will host a career fair which will include a career skills seminar with 5 panelists representing diverse types of employers. Featured panelists include Doug Brinkley, a LEED AP architect from Pearce Brinkley Cease + Lee and Maria Kingery, co-founder of Southern Energy Management and John Esson of the Green Careers Center. Over a dozen employers searching for sustainability personnel will be available to talk-one-on-one with job candidates. In addition, the Conference will offer over 90 sessions and 300 presentations, with an impressive array of campus and business leaders who will share their experience, knowledge and passion for promoting sustainability on campus and in the community.

AASHE 2008 features an impressive line-up of widely acclaimed speakers: Van Jones, Vandana Shiva, Lester Brown and Peter Senge. Other special events include a government plenary addressing the post-election legislative landscape, events focused on implementing the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, a career fair and seminar, student summit, awards banquet, pre-conference workshops, and fi eld trips to our host campuses – Duke University, North Carolina State University, and University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

The Conference aims to advance sustainability practices through partnerships and collaborations, to promote new pathways for elevating sustainability education and student leadership, and to involve a wider range of participants in advancing sustainability in higher education.

AASHE is a membership-based association of colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada working to create a sustainable future. Its mission is to promote sustainability in all sectors of higher education – from governance and operations to curriculum and outreach – through education, communication, research and professional development.

The association also provides a professional home for campus sustainability coordinators and directors.

Among AASHE’s major projects is the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment which has been signed by over 550 presidents and chancellors to date. They have committed to making their institutions climate neutral and to providing the education and knowledge for society to do the same. AASHE is one of three organizations supporting the commitment for the presidents.

A second key project is the development of a standardized self-evaluation tool for campus sustainability. Called STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System), the project is now in its pilot phase, with over 90 pilot campuses. It is expected to be launched in 2009.

When Kate Kendall was growing up in Falls Church, Virginia, she was more interested in cheerleading and sports than grizzly bears. She didn’t think she would make a career of studying the largest carnivore in the lower 48 states. And she certainly didn’t think she would one day be charged by one. Today, she is a respected biologist with the U.S. Geological Survey, and her name comes up whenever grizzlies are mentioned.

“I guess things worked out pretty well,” she says, with a smile.

The truth is, she made things work out. She was in the fi rst class of women to be admitted to the University of Virginia, studied environmental science, and knew she had found something she loved.

“I’ve always been passionate about the outdoors,” she says. “And to be able to delve into wildlife issues, and understand the science behind them – I knew that was going to be my life. But I wasn’t going to be satisfi ed with just getting a job somewhere. I wanted to do something that mattered.”

And she has. She has worked on a variety of important environmental and wildlife issues, but grizzly bears have always been her passion.

“I could have enjoyed doing research on just about any animal,” she says. “But grizzly bears – my God, what amazing animals they are! And how little we still know about them! We spent so much time and effort and money bringing them back from the verge of oblivion here in the lower 48, but we’ve still been in the dark about so many aspects of how they live.”Grizzly bears in northwest Montana are listed as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act, and tens of millions of dollars had been spent on their recovery over a thirty-year period, but no one knew even roughly how many bears there actually were. The animals are notoriously diffi cult to trap, so using radio collars was not a realistic option. The solution, Kate says, was DNA.

“I fi gured if we could get enough hair samples,” she says, “from a wide enough area, we could start to get a pretty clear picture of how the bears were doing in the Northern Rockies Ecosystem.”

That turned out to be a monumental project, involving hundreds of volunteers and more than 200 paid staff, spread out over 8 million acres of rugged country. The project workers made simple ‘hair traps’ by stringing barbed wire around piles of sticks that had been sprinkled with bait.

“It was stinking stuff,” she says. “Fish, and cow’s blood, and all kinds of stuff. Not for the faint of heart!”

But grizzlies seemed to love it. And they came to the traps. And left their hair. And the results were astounding.

“It turns out that there are many more grizzlies here than anyone suspected,” she said. “And we now know so much more about them. And we’re so much better positioned to manage them in the future. And this matters. Because grizzlies are the embodiment of something, I believe, that is crucial to who we are, and to our survival. By the way,” she says, “if you’re thinking I have the best job in the world, you would be right!”

Anyone ever bowled over by a big wave at the beach knows fi rsthand a fraction of the ocean’s surging power.

Now governments and industry hope to harness those forces to generate clean and consistent electricity. The idea is not new. It gained attention during the 1970s oil crisis. Yet backing waned when oil again fl owed fast and cheap.

Ocean energy is back in vogue, as the world faces climate change and rising fossil fuel prices. Interest has spilled past laboratories and think tanks. Technology advances and more government emphasis on renewable energy is drawing private industry. Indeed, in 2005, a number of fi rms, along with a sprinkling of utilities, formed the Ocean Renewable Energy Coalition trade group, in part to make ocean energy’s case to lawmakers who will decide how to allocate federal seed money among competing alternative energies, from solar voltaic panels to cow-manure based methane.

Ocean energy can also mean a smorgasbord of job possibilities in a number of fi elds – especially for people who can work across disciplines. The mechanics of ocean energy, while not in its infancy, is still young and will need engineers cross-trained in several specialties. Marine scientists who can help companies and governments assess and mitigate ocean energy’s environmental costs will also be in demand.

Ocean Energy

It’s true, ocean energy is complicated. It’s not one, but a cluster of technologies, each teasing out an aspect of the ocean’s dynamic forces.

There are four main areas: wind, wave, current and thermal. Wind echoes land-based wind farms, but with turbines anchored offshore, where winds blow with great force. Consider: those winds sent conquistadores, settlers, slaves, gold, and furs to-and-fro across the Atlantic Ocean.

Wave power is another distinct fi eld. Scientists have dreamed up a variety of devices to tap into the kinetic power of waves and tides. They include ocean-surface point absorbers, snake-like attenuators and the vertical oscillating water column. Their underlying similarity is using waves to set in motion air or a fl uid contained in the devices that in turn, power electricity-generating turbines.

Current energy is a fi rst cousin of wind power with turbines places horizontally in the Gulf Stream or other current.

Finally, ocean thermal energy conversion, or OTEC, is the most complicated. It exploits the temperature differential between the ocean’s sun-warmed surface and the cold water fl owing beneath. The warm water vaporizes a fl uid that powers a generator. Cold water condenses the fl uid back again.

“The ocean is the world’s biggest battery for storing

energy from the sun,” said Karl Stevens, dean of Florida Atlantic University’s College of Engineering & Computer Science, in Boca Raton, Fla.

FAU has a long ocean-technology history, offering the nation’s fi rst ocean engineering undergraduate degree in the mid-60s.

Last year it launched the Center for Ocean Energy Technology to design and test ocean-current and OTEC systems.

Jobs in ocean energy mirror the technology challenges facing the fi eld. For example, seawater corrodes iron and other metals. Sonar is the best way to both map and communicate in the depths. Deep-sea structures face high pressure.

That means engineers who specialize in materials, acoustics and fl uid dynamics could be in demand. Electronic engineers as well – because at some point devices must connect with the power grid.

One irony: ocean energy got a technology lift from several decades of offshore oil and gas industry research, especially in underwater materials use, robotics and computer programming.

Meanwhile, system maintenance could offer opportunities as well. For example, tapping the Florida Current would mean positioning 4,000 or more turbines along Florida’s east coast.

Hagerman and the Sea

Florida is not alone in pursing ocean energy. Most shoreline states are looking at programs, depending on the most practical approach in each region. For example, the west coast, with its pounding surf, likes wave energy.

George Hagerman, senior research associate at Virginia Tech’s Arlington, Va.-based Advanced Research Institute and director of research for the Virginia Coastal Energy Research Consortium is helping develop offshore wind power. Hagerman is one of the industry’s most experienced ocean experts.

With undergraduate and graduate degrees in zoology and ocean science, he’s a good example of the advantages of being a “crossover” scientist. Involved in 70s ocean energy

research, he taught himself engineering basics such as hydrodynamics, weights and stability. After the fi eld collapsed, he continued doing ocean energy studies and research for a variety of clients.

Now, Hagerman works on projects around the country, with a focus on offshore wind technologies, a main interest in Virginia. He well knows what hampers more-robust progress in ocean energy.

“One of the big obstacles we face in solving climate problems and energy problems is that we don’t cross technology barriers very well,” he said. “There is very little transfer between forms of renewable energy.”

Meanwhile, he said, people may underestimate the challenge of taping sea power.

“The sea has a way of making Murphy’s Law always come true,” he said. “If there is a weak spot in a design or deployment plan, the ocean will fi nd it.”

Big Ocean, Big Players

Many companies making substantial ocean energy investments are European. Europe is far ahead of the United States in testing and deploying ocean energy systems. Yet that could change -- and open up more U.S.

Postdoc Ecologist – Utah. The Clayton Lab at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City is seeking a highly motivated postdoc for an NSF-funded project concerning Darwin’s Finches and their parasites. The project, which is based in Utah and the Galapagos Islands, is at the interface of co-evolutionary ecology, immunology, behavior, and conservation biology. Although Darwin’s Finches are one of the most famous examples of adaptive radiation, we know relatively little about the role of parasites and pathogens in their ecology, behavior and evolution. Unfortunately, fi nch populations have recently come under serious threat from the introduced tropical nest fl y Philornis downsi. A better understanding of this parasite is urgently needed because of the danger it poses to these iconic birds. The overriding goals of this project are: 1) to conduct rigorous tests of the impact of P. downsi and other parasites on Darwin’s Finches; and 2) to determine the ability of the fi nches to defend themselves against parasites. The project will focus on interactions between P. downsi and the Medium ground fi nch (Geospiza fortis) on Santa Cruz Island; however, we will also study interactions between other species of fi nches and their parasite communities. We hope that this work will help conservation biologists protect Darwin’s Finches from invasive parasites and pathogens in the future. The postdoctoral position is renewable annually for up to three years, depending on performance and funding. The salary starts at $35k per year, plus benefi ts. We are interested in candidates with experience working under physically demanding fi eld conditions. A background in experimental design and statistical analysis is essential, and some experience with population or epidemiological modeling is a plus. Shorebird Monitors – Massachusetts. Two Shorebird Monitors will work closely with the Director, other staff, and volunteers mid April into August to protect nesting piping plovers, least terns, and other beach nesting birds in Dartmouth and Westport. The two positions combined will provide 72 hours per week of fi eld work, data management, and report completion. Sanctuary encompasses a barrier beach, a large coastal salt pond, and forested uplands at a rural location in southeastern Massachusetts. This coastal waterbird monitoring project is one of several ecological management initiatives taking place at the site where fi eld staff from all projects interact as a team. Responsibilities include surveying beaches for breeding bird activity, erecting and maintaining protective fencing (including solar-powered electric fence), collecting data on fi eld forms, submitting data and other reports to partnering agencies, talking with beachgoers about endangered species conservation, preparing and displaying educational material at a public event, and working with volunteers. Positions begin mid-April and run steadily into August. After mid-August, one position will fi nish the fi eld season and complete the report. Graduate Student Position – Nevada. We are looking for a graduate student to be part of a USDA-funded, inter-disciplinary, inter-departmental research group investigating multiple facets of the ecology of farm and adjoining wildland ecosystems. Funds are available to support two years of a Master’s project through the Department of Animal Science and Biotechnology at the University of Nevada, Reno. Pending the availability of funds, a PhD could also be subsequently pursued through the Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology graduate group here at UNR. Specifi cally, the research that we are initiating involves the application of biosolids from a waste treatment plant to various crops on a farm managed by UNR. Cattle will be raised under experimental treatments including forage derived from biosolid-fertilized fi elds. We will also be using stable isotope techniques and developing biochemical markers to track matter and energy derived from biosolid fertilization as they move into adjacent native habitat via the putative intermediary of insect trophic interactions. We would like to fi ll this position with a student having very broad interests in basic ecology, ecosystem science, and chemistry as work will involve plants, cattle, and insects, as well as fi eld, greenhouse and lab work. PhD Student Position – New Mexico. Forest Ecophysiology (PhD), Graduate Degree Program in Ecology. Seeking a highly motivated PhD student to participate in an interdisciplinary study on the role of precipitation manipulation in woodland productivity, ecosystem carbon balance, and tree mortality starting as soon as possible. The PhD student will measure and model plant respiration, estimate canopy photosynthesis for the piñon, juniper and the understory, collaborate with the entire research team, and develop an independent project within the context of the study. The fi eld site is at Sevilleta Long Term Ecological Research site in New Mexico. This is a collaborative project with Will Pockman at the University of New Mexico and Nate McDowell at Los Alamos National Laboratory on a study of precipitation impacts on piñon-juniper woodlands. Assistant Veterinarian – New York. The Global Health Programs Division of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) announces an opening for an Assistant Veterinarian in Zoological Medicine and Surgery. The position is based at the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo, with services also performed at the Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and the New York Aquarium, all located in New York City. These zoos and the aquarium consist of animal collections of over 19,000 individuals of over 1300 species which provides a varied and large patient caseload. Plant Evolution Position – Minnesota. A postdoctoral position is available on a project examining evolutionary consequences of population fragmentation of Echinacea angustifolia (purple conefl ower) in North American prairie. Shorebird Monitor Intern – Massachuetts. The Shorebird Monitor Intern will work closely with two Allens Pond shorebird monitors, Sanctuary staff and volunteers (May-August) to protect nesting piping plovers, least terns, and other beach nesting birds in Dartmouth and Westport. The internship will consist of largely of fi eld work and data management with opportunities for participation in other research projects. The Sanctuary encompasses a barrier beach, a large coastal salt pond, and forested uplands at a rural location in southeastern Massachusetts. This coastal waterbird monitoring project is one of several ecological management initiatives taking place at the site where fi eld staff from all projects interact as a team. Turn off the lights! Just by turning off the lights when not in use, you’ll be saving huge amounts of energy. You Look So Natural: time to give your makeup and bath products a makeover. Try some fruity facial cleanser, a nice moisturizer, and some organic makeup from Physician’s Formula to keep looking natural and eco-friendly.

Go Energy Star! No matter if it’s your coffee maker, microwave, or new laptop, look for the Energy Star icon. It lets you know that the product you’re buying uses signifi cantly less energy. If you’re looking for the best deal in Energy Star, try the MicroFridge, a combined microwave, freezer, and fridge that is Energy Star certifi ed. Or, if you’re lucky enough to have a large shared fridge, share it! There will be plenty of space for food.

De-Paper Yourself: use a towel to dry your hands and clean up messes, and buy some kitchenware for meals in the room. You can fi nd recycled and reusable cutlery and plates right at Preserve and Confetti dishes at Target. Or, if you want to be fancy, try organic hand towels and bamboo cutlery. But, if you really need some paper towels, napkins, and tissues, buy recycled ones at grocery stores. You can even get recycled mirrors!

Stationary: We know you will need paper, post-it notes, and everything else in between for classes. Try to buy recycled or Post-Consumer Waste (PCW) stationary. Remember: many professors use blackboard exclusively for assignments, so you can save paper by not printing out every single assignment, and instead read it online. If you need to print, print double-sided.

De-Plastic Yourself: dig up those dusty totes bags and use them to go shopping – the US alone wastes 100 billion plastic bags every year that are a damaging eyesore. If you want stylish bags, check out reuseablebags.com or reusethisbag.com. Even Target is in on the craze.

So Little Space, So Much to Store: instead of opting for plastic, easily breakable storage units, try bamboo storage units. When you leave for the summer and live far away, remember to rent a storage unit around town so you won’t have to spend the extra gas hauling everything back home.

Get Thrifty: shop around town for used lamps, chairs, and other furniture if you feel the need for even more furniture (other than your dorm furniture).

Green Your Snacking: buy natural, organic, free-range, and especially LOCAL food.

Plants: bring a fern or some bamboo – they help purify the air and look pretty too. These plants help get rid of nasty indoor air toxins such as benzene and formaldehyde (ick). Fresh air does wonders (especially when you have to stay up all night studying for that bio fi nal and fi nishing that lit paper…oops).

Coffee and Tea: instead of rushing to the café every morning, make your own shade-grown, organic and fair trade coffee and tea. Or, if you really need a specialty drink, let the barista use your travel mug. While you’re at it, get a permanent fi lter for your brewer at Amazon or Greenfeet.

Anything else: you’ll be amazed at how many items are now made of recycled material. For example, Target sells PCW material and recycled umbrellas, vases, doormats, and Elephant Poo Poo products (yes, it’s made from elephant poop).

One such company is Lockheed Martin Corp., the Bethesda, Md.-based defense giant. It is working with FAU’s ocean technology center and others on an OTEC plant – a system, in fact, it had fi rst begun designing in the 70s. In response to emailed questions, Lockheed declined to disclose how much it was investing in the project, except to call it “sizeable.”

A Fish Tale

No one knows the environmental effects of an OTEC plant or of hundreds of miles of turbines along Florida’s seacoast.

But industry and government know they need to fi nd out. That could mean career opportunities for marine biologists – especially those able to collaborate with engineers and other ocean scientists.

Some miles north of Boca Raton, Fla., Stephen McCulloch, founder and program manager for Harbor Branch marine mammal research and conservation program is preparing to take a close look at the dolphin populations and activities near where FAU’s ocean energy center plans to test turbines. Harbor Branch is also part of FAU.

McCulloch studies the population ecology, health and life history of bottlenose dolphins in the Indian River lagoon. He said mapping dolphin activities will create a baseline portrait of the area’s ecological health – the fi rst step in preventing or mitigating any environmental damage that ocean energy systems may cause.

“In the emerging fi eld of ocean energy you have to recognize the importance of conservation or sustainability,” he said. “You can’t pull energy out of the ocean at the expense of the ocean.”

McCulloch explained that the health of the ocean is a key – maybe the key – component of the planet’s overall condition.

As engineers work on their machines, McCulloch and colleagues plan to map dolphin populations near the slated pilot site. They will also look at other concerns, such as whether dolphins breed or feed at the site. Possible affects from sonar systems is at issue as well. “Marine mammals and most sea creatures live in an underwater world of sound,” McCulloch said.

Biologists who want ocean energy careers, he said, might take a generalist approach to ocean biology and ecology. “There is a need for people to have well rounded capacities, the person who can connect the dots and bring everything together,” he said. “The emerging fi eld of ocean energy is going to be changing, fast- paced and dynamic.”

While these FERC-licensed facilities occur throughout the southeastern U.S. (Texas to North Carolina), the higher priority projects for SER occur in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama. SER’s hydropower coordinator is a member of SER’s Habitat Conservation Division and is located in SER’s Charleston (SC) fi eld offi ce, which leads SER’s efforts on hydropower projects. Qualifciations: Experience examining the habitat requirements of riverine, estuarine, or marine fi sh and evaluating whether current or proposed conditions meet those requirements. Landscape Ecologist – Mississippi. This will be a postdoctoral position to join an interdisciplinary team studying the ecology of invasive plants and insects in the southeastern US. The successful candidate will be based in the plant ecology lab of Dr. Gary Ervin, but will have opportunities to collaborate with other faculty in the Mississippi State University Department of Biological Sciences. The current working group includes faculty with expertise in spatial ecology, quantitative ecology & evolutionary biology, population genetics, plant systematics, and plant ecology and fi eld biology. The ideal applicant will have expertise in at least two of the following areas, and a desire to engage in cross-disciplinary analyses of invasive species data: ecological modeling, landscape ecology, plant ecology, population genetics, or spatial statistics. Ecohydrology Position – Idaho. A postdoc is sought at Idaho State University, Pocatello, for participation in a collaborative project on ecohydrology of sagebrush steppe. Crops Apprenticeships – Massachusetts. Drumlin Farm is a 232-acre Audubon wildlife sanctuary and education center, with 14 acres dedicated to

sustainably-grown vegetables. The farm trains 4 apprentices per season in sustainable farming practices and CSA and farmers’ market management. Apprenticeships run for 6 months, beginning in the spring and continuing through the end of October. Apprentices learn all aspects of vegetable production: greenhouse propagation, timely transplanting, state-of-the-art tractor-cultivating techniques, old-fashioned hand-cultivating techniques, biological pest control, timely harvesting, and volunteer management. Drumlin also grows strawberries and autumn raspberries, and its livestock operation raises cows, sheep, goats, pigs and chickens. On-farm composting and cover-cropping are the main sources of soil fertility. Drumlin markets its food in a variety of ways, and apprentices participate in each method. From June through October, the farm feeds 100 families through its CSA, attends three Boston farmers’ markets per week, and stocks a farmstand each day. In the late summer, extra food is grown for fall storage in a root cellar. This food, supplemented by greenhouse greens, feeds 40 families throughout the winter. The farm, using its own garlic and basil, also makes and markets pesto—a value-added product. Postdoctoral Adaptive Management Specialist – Georgia. Data Assistant – New York. The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo is seeking applications for a Data Assistant. The primary job responsibility of the individual in this position is to support the data import process for the Global Avian Infl uenza Network for Surveillance (GAINS) project’s Wildlife Information System for Disease Observation and Monitoring (WISDOM). Project Manager – Uganda. The project is funded for a minimum of 2.5 years with extension likely. Outreach Zoomobile Coordinator – Arizona. The Zoomobile program is sponsored by Freeport-McMoRan (formerly Phelps Dodge Corporation). The program presents educational programs about the natural world for students in schools, recreational

settings, and other venues throughout the state of Arizona. The Zoomobile Coordinator is a traveling ambassador and educator for the zoo who is responsible for all aspects of the Zoomobile program. In order to fulfi ll job duties and program demands, this position requires a fl exible schedule and availability for out-of-town, overnight travel on a regular basis. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, promotion and scheduling of the Zoomobile program, coordination of travel arrangements, and program presentation at various facilities. The Zoomobile Coordinator is knowledgeable about animal biology, conservation, ecology, education, and ensures that programs are appropriate and engaging for diverse audiences. The Zoomobile Coordinator typically works 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday during the calendar school year. During this time, out-of-town travel will be required for 3-4 weeks of each month (3-4 days per week with overnights). During school holiday and summer breaks, the Zoomobile Coordinator will assist with presenting in-town Outreach Programs and program development. Again, this will require the availability for a fl exible schedule, including the ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays. While traveling the Coordinator is responsible for proper handling, transportation, and presentation of a diverse collection of program animals. This includes preparing animal diets, feeding animals, cleaning animal enclosures, arranging animals safely in the hotel rooms and 24 hour awareness of animal comfort.Qualifi cation for this position include: B.A. in science or education along with a strong interest in the natural world. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to speak with confi dence and enthusiasm to audiences of all ages and to groups of all sizes.
