Green Gateway Initiative: the Challenge

In the UK market, the air conditioning

industry was perceived to be part of

the environmental problem

 New approach was required to

change the mindset of policy makers,

building developers and public

 Green Gateway Initiative was

launched in 2007 locally by Mitsubishi

Electric’s UK Branch to achieve this

An initiative designed to change the mindset and

position HEAT PUMPS as an effective means to

reduce energy costs and CO2 emissions.

Green Gateway Initiative activities include:

Demonstrating heat pump technology to UK Members of

Parliament, explaining how “ecodan” is a low-carbon alternative

to gas and oil

Holding “low-carbon” and “ecodan” seminars about heating.

Presentations given by external and company speakers

Providing audit tools to accurately measure and compare

energy consumption when efficient equipment (such as heat

pumps) are installed

The Green Gateway Approach

Acceptance as partner of the EU Commission’sSustainable Energy Europe (SEE) Campaign and

shortlisted in the “Market Transformation” categoryat the 2008 Awards

“Best Green Corporate Initiatives Project 2008” at

EDIE (Environmental Data Interactive Exchange)

Awards for Environmental Excellence

“Technology Award” for energy saving potential at

the Energy Institute (EI) Awards 2008

Environmental Initiative Award of the Year

at the 2009 ACR News Awards

Green Gateway Initiative Results

Heat pumps gaining recognition among industry and

government authorities as way to meet legislative

requirements and reduce heating costs. Official

recognition and awards include:

Gain pan-European acceptance of heat pumps and other

energy saving products

Effectively position Mitsubishi Electric as a leading sustainable

company in Europe in a unified manner

Green Gateway: Going Forward

A success in the UK, actively considering extension of

Green Gateway Initiative to other EU markets

◆◆◆◆High levels of energy efficiency achieved, with energyefficiency rate COP = 4.24

(Condition::::4HP model / external temperature 7oC / hot water temperature 35oC).

◆◆◆◆Annual CO2 emissions reduced by approximately 50% compared to oil boilers and approximately 30% compared to gas.

◆◆◆◆Top-class ZUBADAN ATW can produce 55oC hot water (max. 60C) even when external temperatures are as low as -15oC.
