Hollywood celebrities are eco-evangelists.
The 2008 Olympics set the new gold standard forsustainable events.
Religious leaders are making the environment amoral issue.
Everywhere we turn, were inundated withsome message or story relating to Greenand the environment.

Additional Info
Indian Union Environment Minister, Jairam Ramesh has already announcedthat India would soon have its very own panel on climate change as thecountry could not depend only on reports from the UN IntergovernmentalPanel on Climate Change (IPCC). Clearly, it has raised the bar of importancegiven to environment by the country and a declaration to work hard forwinning the most coveted title of worlds leader in clean energy economy.
India already has many ongoing initiatives to talk about in the context ofBeing Green. No doubt that The early bird catches the worm, and so doinitiatives that drive green lifestyle in catching the limelight in various arena oflife. For instance, Tata Steel has set its goal to reduce carbon dioxideemissions at its Jamshedpur plant from the current 1.8 ton to 1.7 ton per tonof liquid steel made by 2012. Also Tata Motors will set up an eco-friendlyshowroom with natural building material for its flooring and energy-efficientlights. Tata Power group has declared that 25% of the total power it wouldgenerate in the next 10 years would be from renewable energy sources.
Agreeing to follow the trend of being green, several other companies are alsoin the process of implementing clean development mechanism (CDM) projects. The Delhi government has introduced Energy Conservation Building Code(ECDC), to give clear instructions on construction of new governmentbuildings. This code is already in use in various commonwealth projects in thestate. Its successful implementation will save 30% to 40% energy.

Brands in India are now focusing more on policies that will help them tap consumers choice for greenproducts and promotion of eco-friendly mechanism in their respective markets. The trend has evenswept across the country fashion industry. Many designers now work on environment-friendly clothingand showcase their support for the 'green' cause during many fashion weeks like the Wills LifestyleIndian Fashion Week. Natural fabrics like hand-woven wool from shepherds, natural silks, recycled
junk jewelry, organic knits, etc are being widely used.
Another trend of being green for publicity has also been reported among many celebrities who
support various green causes. NDTV Save the Environment campaign witness many celebrities likeAbhishek Bachan, Abhinav Bindra, M S Dhoni, Priyanka Chopra, Rohit Bal, Shah Rukh Khan and manyother joining the campaign to save the environment. Besides celebrities, many Indian citizens arecoming up with different ways of being green. A very beautiful example is that of Mawlynnong, thecleanest village in Asia. The village is situated 90 km away from the state capital of Meghalaya. It hasover 80 houses and the villagers are the green ambassadors who have worked hard to attain suchgreen prestige. They kept their surroundings clean by doing simple voluntary service like sweepingthe roads and lanes, watering the plants and cleaning the drains.
The many non-profit organizations that strive to safeguard the eco-realm work very hard to keep thetrend going on and to create more awareness. Not only do they advocate being green but also set outto implement eco-friendly initiatives to ensure survival of all creature in harmony. Renewable energy, environmental regulation, clean energy , energy independence, green jobs, eco-tourism, etc are some
of the concern areas they work on. Different reasons might have prompted different people to adopt this new trend of being green but it
surely has proved popular. The real success can only be measured in terms of the change witnessedby people in their lifestyle towards being more eco-friendly and adhering to sustainable ways ofprotecting the environment that will eventually stop global climate change threats.

So far consciousness of todays generation about theenvironment and the way the people with this sort ofproblem seems to be innovative. Yes, the concept of
Green Buildings has come into light and is underimplementation. This concept is gaining grounds indeveloping nations like India with the increasing numberof developers targeting to reduce the environmentalimpact of buildings. The Indian government alsoprovides various non-financial incentives for thedevelopers who opt for the green guidelines for building.
According to IGBC, the Indian Green Building
Council, A Green building is one which uses lesswater, optimizes energy efficiency, conservesnatural resources, generates less waste andprovides healthier spaces for occupants, ascompared to a conventional building.

Green Buildings retain the environment at the location of building. The land allocation andexternal design of a green building will be in such a way, that trespassing of light iseliminated and certain species of plants are grown. Thus, the green buildings can achievethe siting and design efficiency.
Harvesting of solar panels on the top of a green building increases the chances ofsupplementing the conventional methods. The natural light is made penetrated into themiddle floors, thereby minimizing the usage of electricity. Sunlight is restricted in the lowerfloors, apart from saving energy, here we use high efficiency lighting. Temperature can becontrolled by the installation of high efficiency windows, insulation in walls, floors andceilings. Thereby, achieving Energy efficiency.
Hence, Green construction is the practice of creating efficient structures and using processesthat are Eco-friendlythrough out a buildings life-cycle.
Other features of an green building might include the following aspects:
The wide use of solar panels for domestic hot water heating.
Conservation of water including biological waste water treatment and re-use, and the simple
collection and recycling of rainwater for garden use. Low energy light bulbs, which can last up to 100 times longer than regular bulbs. Eg: CFL
lamps
Non-toxic or lead-free paints and wood preservatives.

How to conserve energy
Lighting
If every American replaced the incandescent bulbs in five of the most-often-used light fixtures in his home with bulbs that have earned theEnergy Star seal, it would reduce greenhouse gas emissions in theatmosphere by the amount produced by 10 million cars (see References2), according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Energy Star is aprogram co-sponsored by the EPA and the Department of Energy to help
consumers save money and energy through the use of energy-efficientproducts. (See References 3)
Heating and Cooling
The average U.S. household spends $1,900 each year on utilities, withroughly half of this amount going toward heating and air conditioningcosts (see References 5, page 2). You can improve the efficiency ofheating and air conditioning units by frequently cleaning or replacing airfilters and by having your furnace cleaned every year. In addition, check
the condition of the insulation in your home and add more if necessary, paying particular attention to seals around windows and doors and ductsin the attic and crawl spaces. When it's time to replace a unit, considerpurchasing one that is Energy Star-compliant. The EPA estimates thatreplacing older heating and cooling units with Energy Star equipment canreduce your energy costs by almost $200 a year. (See References 6)

How to conserve energy
Transportation
Keep your automobile in good working order and the tires properlyinflated to enhance performance, improve fuel efficiency and savegas. Whenever possible, take public transportation to work orschool, or organize a carpool. According to the EPA, for each personleaving the car home at least twice a week, nearly 1,600 lbs. ofcarbon dioxide emissions are taken out of the environment each
year. (See References 4) Water
Public water systems use a lot of energy to treat, filter and deliverwater to each residence in a community. By using water wisely, youcan help reduce the amount of energy consumed. Teach children notto let the water run while brushing their teeth, and discourage longshowers. If you feel that you must water the lawn or garden, do soin the morning hours, when temperatures are lower. Wash laundryin warm or cold water instead of hot. Identify and repair leakyfaucets as soon as possible, as well as toilet leaks; the EPA says aleaky toilet can waste as much as 200 gallons of water a day. (SeeReferences 2)
