What makes us a Green School
• We got our first green flag for waste management
• We got this flag in 2005
• We had to show that our school reduces, reuses and recycles
What do we recycle?In our green bins we can
put:
• Paper• Plastic bottles• Card• Milk Cartons• Cans
What can we compost• Pencil parings• Raw fruit and
vegetable waste• Tea bags
What else do we recycle
• Batteries • Mobile phones• Phone chargers• Ink cartridges • Old clothes• Toys and books at
the jumble sale
We are still collecting phones for the Jack and
Jill foundation
• We collected 500
phones for the Jack and Jill foundation and got a free interactive whiteboard in return. We are now collecting for another whiteboard.
• Keep bringing them in please!
How we can reduce and reuse
• Use the two sides of a piece of paper
• Use a lunchbox• Use your water
bottle again• If your clothes don’t
fit you, give the clothes to your younger brother or sister
Ways to save energy • Don’t leave machinery
on standby• Take out plugs at
night• Last out turn off lights • Walk or cycle to
school
• Carpool or use public
transport

• We found many ways to make our school energy efficient

third green flag• We got this for cutting
down on using water • We also need to
continue on the great job the school is doing with waste and energy
The recycling bin• The recycling bin is
between the senior yard and the car park
• It is for cardboard, cans, cartons, plastic bottles and paper
Ms. Holmes/Bn Uí Mhuirí will take old cartridges and phones. There are collection boxes throughout the
school

• Sarah Fitzgerald from An Taisce came in to do a survey on how
we get to and from school.

• For our 4th green flag we are trying
to make more kids and teachers walk, cycle and carpool to and from school.
• An Taisce are helping us on our way. We hope to launch our BoW WoW
campaign in the Spring.
• BoW means bike on Wednesday.• WoW means walk on Wednesday.• An Taisce have provided us with two bike
shelters.• Up to 60 people are cycling to school
everyday.
