National Lutheran School’s Week is a special week celebrated in Lutheran Schools around the world for many years. This is a special week that we as Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary schools take time to recognize the wonderful blessings of our schools and giving thanks to God! Lutheran School’s week is upon us and we are ready to celebrate, January 20-27! The celebration theme for this year is “Upon this Rock.” Each day, we will all meet together in the gym and begin our day with a devotional, based on this theme for our students. We are a blessed nation that can share and speak freely about Jesus and what He has done for us. There are fun and crazy, dress days along with activities planned throughout the week. We look forward to a wonderful week celebrating Lutheran schools, keeping our emphasis on Christ, His love and forgiveness. The schedule of events is included with the Green Sheet today.

OPEN HOUSE THIS SUNDAY Join us as we kick off National Lutheran Schools Week with an Open House, Sunday, January 22, 1:00-3:00pm. Current families visit your classrooms and show families what you’ve been working on. Future Viking Families join us for a talk with our Principal – Mr. Stephen Eggold, 1:30pm, Room 101. Tours available until 3:00pm.

ENROLLING NOW FOR 2017-2018 Thank you for your trust in us to guide and educate your children. We love each and every one of our students. What a pleasure it is to share God’s love in our education!

Re-enrollment is open for the 2017-2018 school year. Please check your email and follow the link provided through TADS to reserve your child’s spot for next year. The non-refundable enrollment fee is intended to hold a seat for your child. In order to make decision on staffing, curriculum, program enhancements and educational materials, a firm commitment of the number of students is needed. Please see the attached Admissions Calendar for enrollment and tuition information.

Upon completing the enrollment process you will be directed to set up your tuition payment and billing agreement. Please note that any tuition discount, church member endorsement, other church subsidy and/or tuition assistance will be applied to your account before the first installment date.

Any new Kindergarten or Junior Kindergarten students will need to begin the application and admissions process through TADS. Once accepted, families will receive an email link to complete the enrollment process.

Church Association families, please download the 2017-2018 Church Endorsement Form and submit to your Church. This form is available under your “2017-2018 Required Documents” in TADS or on our school website under “Admissions,” and also included with the Green Sheet today.

If applying for Tuition Assistance, please visit mytads.com beginning January 1, 2017. To be considered for the first round of awards, the online application should be completed in its entirety and the family income documentation submitted, received at TADS by 3/15/2017 and in “good” status.

2017 SPELLING BEE CHAMPION—ANNA KUSCHEL Green Park held its 45th Annual Spelling Bee on Tuesday, January 10. A job well done by all contestants. Congratulations to our 2017 Champion: Anna Kuschel (7th) and Runner-up: Lizzie Meyer (5th). Anna will now represent Green Park in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Spelling Bee sponsored and hosted by McKendree University in March. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch Spelling Bee consists of two levels of competition: the regional written semi-final bee and the oral final bee. The top speller from the final bee wins a trip for two to Washington, D.C. to compete in the Scripps Spelling Bee in late May.

LITERACY NIGHT - JANUARY 20, 2017 Join us tonight, 6:30-8:30pm for our K-5 Literacy Night. We'll build, create and READ! Scholastic Book Fair opens at 6:30pm. Bring a friend! A flyer is attached with details.

PTO needs your help to stock up our silent auction for Trivia Night! Please reach out to Michele Noser with items that you have to donate to our silent auction. This is a great opportunity to help us increase the funds for the tuition assistance program.

ANNUAL FUND UNDERWAY! Every year Green Park Lutheran school has their annual fund campaign. This effort is our biggest fundraiser this year! You should have received an annual fund letter/flyer in the mail. This is more than a piece of paper! We are asking for you to contribute to your school—Your children's school. A place where they learn and grow not only academically but spiritually. While you are considering your yearly donations, consider your child's school. JANUARY AND FEBRUARY CHAPEL OFFERINGS Our January and February chapel offerings will be going to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church located in the historical Shaw neighborhood. Mt. Olive is a confessional and mission oriented church that provides clothing, food, and community dinners for those in their neighborhood. Please help us support their ministry to those in need!

D.A.R.E. GRADUATION Tuesday, January 17, was an exciting morning for our fifth grade class. After successfully completing their semester long studies in the D.A.R.E. (Define, Assess, Respond and Evaluate) Program, they celebrated with their graduation. Beginning in August, Officer Kelley, from the St. Louis County Police Department, visited our classroom once a week. She taught the D.A.R.E. class to our 5th grade students, teaching them about responsibility, communication and confidence. Along with completing their classroom assignments, each student was required to write a persuasion essay about why D.A.R.E. should be taught in schools. Congratulations to our Essay Winners: First Place, Dea Kuzhilla, Second Place, Lizzie Meyer, Third Place, Thomas Bugala and Honorable Mentions, Ella Arbeiter and Audrey Wolff. Dea’s essay, along with the other schools in which Officer Kelley teaches, will be sent to Governor Eric Greitens. The fifth graders would like to thank Officer Kelley for her dedication and service to children and her community. We also congratulate our fifth grade students for a job well done.

STUDENT ILLNESS NOTE For the well being of all our students and staff, please do not send your child to school unless they are fever free (without any fever medication), no vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours. If a student has strep throat they must be on antibiotics for at least 24 hours. The school nurse cannot give over the counter cough and cold medications to students without a written note from the doctor and signed by the parent. Cough drops may be brought to school and kept in the nurse’s office for proper use.

Finally, if your child is sick or not coming to school, we ask that you call the school office in the morning to let us know the reason why your child is absent. If you need to contact Ms. LeMunyon, for any reason, her office hours are 10:30am-2:30pm, Monday through Friday, or you can email her at : victoria.lemunyon@greenparklutheranschool.org.
