A job well done by all contestants. Congratulaons to our 2017 Champion: Anna Kuschel (7th) and Runner-up: Lizzie Meyer (5th). Anna will now represent Green Park in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Spelling Bee sponsored and hosted by McKendree University in March. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch Spelling Bee consists of two levels of compeon: the regional wrien semi-final bee and the oral final bee. The top speller from the final bee wins a trip for two to Washington, D.C. to compete in the Scripps Spelling Bee in late May. LITERACY NIGHT - JANUARY 20, 2017 Join us tonight, 6:30-8:30pm for our K-5 Literacy Night. We'll build, create and READ! Scholasc Book Fair opens at 6:30pm. Bring a friend! D.A.R.E. GRADUATION Tuesday, January 17, was an excing morning for our fiſth grade class. Aſter successfully compleng their semester long studies in the D.A.R.E. (Define, Assess, Respond and Evaluate) Program, they celebrated with their graduaon. Beginning in August, Officer Kelley, from the St. Louis County Police Department, visited our classroom once a week. She taught the D.A.R.E. class to our 5th grade students, teaching them about responsibility, communicaon and confidence. Along with compleng their classroom assignments, each student was required to write a persuasion essay about why D.A.R.E. should be taught in schools. Congratulaons to our Essay Winners: First Place, Dea Kuzhilla, Second Place, Lizzie Meyer, Third Place, Thomas Bugala and Honorable Menons, Ella Arbeiter and Audrey Wolff. Deas essay, along with the other schools in which Officer Kelley teaches, will be sent to Governor Eric Greitens. The fiſth graders would like to thank Officer Kelley for her dedicaon and service to children and her community. We also congratulate our fiſth grade students for a job well done. National Lutheran School’s Week is a special week celebrated in Lutheran Schools around the world for many years. SCRIP NEWS The Scrip order that was originally due last Friday, January 13, will be entered today, Friday, January 20, 2017, with a delivery date of next Friday, January 28. We apologize for any inconvenience.

STUDENT ILLNESS NOTE For the well being of all our students and staff, please do not send your child to school unless they are fever free (without any fever medication), no vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours. If a student has strep throat they must be on antibiotics for at least 24 hours. The school nurse cannot give over the counter cough and cold medications to students without a written note from the doctor and signed by the parent. Cough drops may be brought to school and kept in the nurse’s office for proper use.

Finally, if your child is sick or not coming to school, we ask that you call the school office in the morning to let us know the reason why your child is absent. If you need to contact Ms. LeMunyon, for any reason, her office hours are 10:30am-2:30pm, Monday through Friday, or you can email her at : [email protected].
