Celeste is having a hard time at school; she can’t seem to make any friends in her class, so she decides she must be from outer space. Celeste knows there is a whole world of people who are like her up in the stars, so she starts building a spaceship to bring her back to her home planet. That’s when Celeste meets Martin, a new boy at school, who wants to help build the rocket, and the adventure takes a new turn. Celestial Being explores the world of a young girl with a big imagination and her struggle making social connections. As we see the world through her eyes, and the tremendous colour and joy that her inner world presents, we realize that seeing things differently can be a wonderful gift.

Celestial Being was commissioned in partnership with Théâtre la Seizième.

Rex and Becky have been friends forever. Pushed to be ‘the best’ by his dad, Rex is practicing intensely to make the all-star hockey team, to the detriment of his schoolwork and his friendships. Becky is a star, too; a star student determined to win the spelling bee. She’s always working to be the top of the class, to impress her parents and to be as good at school, or better than, her older sister. Enter Marshall, a happy-go-lucky kid who, though a little quirky, just wants to make friends and fit in at his new school. But Marshall’s high marks make him a threat to Becky and cause a rift in her friendship with Rex.

Showdown is about being happy with who you are, about success, cooperation and being true to your friends.

“Showdown is a perfect example of the way important and enduring issues can be presented with telling simplicity”

- Colin Thomas, Theatre Critic, Georgia Straight
