From the Principal and PTA President

Dear Greenacres Supporters, The parents, teachers and administrators who make up our PTA work tirelessly to organize and support a wide range of programs and services that benefit the entire Greenacres School community. Some initiatives, such as our lunch programs and after school clubs, offer

convenience to parents and opportunities to students; others, like the Spring Carnival and 5th

grade year-end programs, are celebratory. Most of our programming, however, serves to enhance the educational experiences of all Greenacres students. Through our fundraising efforts, we are able to provide our students with many wonderful opportunities. Cultural arts assemblies encourage them to embrace a variety of dance, music and theatrical performances, and our multicultural programs allow them to appreciate our culture with all of its diversity. The Artful Looking program fosters their understanding of art, and the Learning from Our Differences program teaches them to respect difference. In addition, our students are able to meet authors in the library, experiment with theater through the school play, and celebrate themselves as writers and artists by publishing their work in the Greenacres literary magazine, Kaleidoscope. Offering such a wide range of enrichment programs is important. Each student responds differently to learning experiences. The more varied the experiences that we can provide, the greater the potential benefit. We never know what, why or how a specific student will respond to new information or new situations, but what we do know is that each student will respond in some meaningful way. The Greenacres Fall Fundraiser is our PTA’s largest fundraising effort of the year, and we truly appreciate your help. The generosity of our supporters has enabled our PTA to provide so many of the meaningful programs and experiences mentioned above. The success of last year’s fundraiser also enabled our PTA to fund two programs – visits from a visual artist and from a chef, as well as offering grade grants to our teachers for special programming that supplemented grade-level curricula. These grade grants allowed for additional learning experiences through class trips and instructional supplies for the classrooms. We appreciate your help in continuing this tradition of incredible support for our school, its teachers, and our children. BID WITH ABANDON. Gerry Young Dana Matsushita Principal, Greenacres School PTA President

FROM THE 2013 FALL FUNDRAISER CHAIRS Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. -Helen Keller We are grateful to the many members of our community who worked so hard to bring this event to life. Here in Greenacres, we have the good fortune of raising funds for “extras” – things that make our school truly special and reflect the unique partnership we have with our faculty and teachers. We also thank our amazing list of sponsors and donors, some new, many returning. Please make an effort to thank the businesses, teachers and parents who so generously donated and chose to give to our Greenacres School. Getting here was only part of the job; we invite you to come bid on things you need, things you’d like and maybe get a start on your holiday or birthday shopping. Plan special things to do over school breaks and weekends. And, don’t forget to share this book with grandparents looking for a way to support our school and do something special for your children – it is accessible digitally from the PTA website. Thank you all for working together today, and every day, to make Greenacres the best it can be! Tanya Singer, Chair Midori Im, Vice Chair 2013 Fall Fundraiser Committee
