How to minimize environmental effects?Controlling life cycle of event Life cycle thinking – Event from cradle to grave Helps to identify the activities of the events their environmental
effects Sustainability thinking also effects internal activities of the
organization-structure of the organization, management, communications, training etc.
Provides time to act and minimizes the negative enviornmental effects and enchances the positive effects in an early stage
Leadership and management is important inder to achieve eco-efficiency – identifying values and strategies and creating practical implementation plan
Because the timeline of the an event is short, should the targets be linked the long term goals.

For discussion - Lessons learnt from Helsinki2005
Face the real obstacles (analyzing and problem solving) Empower the important stakeholders with well-managed dialogue Make yourself aware who actually makes the decisions Implement in the early phase the sustainability criteria in all
tendering and procurement Consider the desiging phase of constructions as the most
important in terms of the environment impact Ensure that public transportation ticket is included in every event
ticket and accreditaion card Implement CO2 compensation plan in early phase as part of the
comprehensive energy efficiency plan Take measures for waste prevention as part of the integrated
waste management Involve the communications branch of the LOC Appoint persons in charge of envirmental actions in sites & venues Plan and implement education programme for all important
