Children’s Department News

Bedtime Storytime for 3½ to 5 ½ year olds

Children are invited to wear their pajamas, listen to stories and cre-ate a fun craft during our bedtime storytimes on July 6,13,20, and 27.

Historic Games with Casey Farm on Wednesday July 6 at 11:00 a.m.

Children ages 6- 11 are invited to play games, solve riddles and learn about the lives and popular leisure activities for chil-dren during the 17th,18th and 19th centu-ries. Discover how changes in technology affected children’s toys and pastimes!

Book Buddies Several teens will be teaming up with young readers ages 3 to 8 every Tuesday from 10:30 – 11:15 in the children’s room. Children may sign up to read with a teen on July 12, 19, and 26. They can bring a book they are currently reading or choose one at the library the day of the reading session.

Summer Fun for Young Ones July 18th at 10:30

Children ages 1-3 and a caregiver are welcome to join the fun this summer at the library. Children will enjoy stories and songs at this lively storytime on July 18th at 10:30.

PAWS to READ Does your child need practice with their reading skills? Here is an opportunity to practice this summer with a therapy dog who LOVES to listen to stories. Children ages 6- 11 may sign up for one 10 min-ute session per week on Monday July 11,18 and 25.

Share A Story Book Discussion Group

Children in grades 3- 5 and a parent or caregiver are invited to the library to discuss Roller Girl by Victoria Jamieson Wednesday July 13 at 4:00 p.m. We will meet to share our thoughts about this fast paced, honest and funny graph-ic novel! Registration is limited to 15 children.

Rising Sun Jiu JitsuDean Watts will teach children ages 6- 11 basic self- defense and respect. Children will partici-pate in fun martial arts drills while being motivated to exercise on Thursday July 14 at 6:30 p.m.

Ready, Set, Grow!Do you have a green thumb and an imagination? Children ages 6-11 are welcome to make a fun Fairy Garden to take home and enjoy on Tuesday July 19 at 2:00 p.m.

Art with Miss Adele Art class will be offered for chil-dren ages 6- 11 on Thursday July 21 at 10:30 a.m. Participants will use various mediums in an en-couraging and creative environ-ment under the guidance of artist and teacher Adele Karboswki.

Big Games at the LibraryAre you ready and willing and able to try playing Jumbo Games at the library? Children and teens ages 8- 14 are invit-ed to participate in this wacky program with Miss Rhonda and Miss Babs where we will be playing giant games on the library lawn on Wednesday July 20 at 3:30 p.m.

Malik the Magic GuyJoin in the fun as magician Malik, performs tricks with sports equip-ment and demonstrates games and activities from other cultures! More surprises await children ages 6 to11 on Thursday July 21 at 3:30 p.m.

with Katie FairheadFamilies with young children will have fun singing and playing percussion instruments with Miss Katie on Monday July 25 at 10:30 a.m. !

Summer Reading Program~2016

“Get in the Game” is the theme this year. Registration started on June 27th for anyone going into grade 6-12! Check the website and our Facebook page for updates. The program runs until August 10th. There will be weekly prizes, incentive coupons, and special programs. Choice of grand prizes

will include a Kindle Fire, Minecraft Basket, Activity Basket and a Game Basket. A brochure with all of the programs will be available on our website and in the library. Stop by the Young Adult Section all summer for weekly DIY crafts and/or activities. For every activity there is a random prize drawing at the end of the week! Visit our NEW GAME section. Board games can be checked out for a week. DONATIONS of new games will be happily accepted!!! Gaming Wednesdays 2:00-4:00 July 13th, July 27th, Aug 3rd and Aug 10th Sign up online to play Minecraft, Roblox, and/or Board Games. Bring your friends or meet new ones.

3D Print Your Own Creation!

Learn the ins and outs of 3D printing and design in this three-week program! Teens will learn to create their own objects using an online design program and print them on our 3D printer.

You must be able to attend all three workshops.

Tuesdays July 12th-August 9th 10:30-11:30 Book Buddies is a great way to earn community service hours during the summer by reading with and to children. Register in person at the Welcome Desk. Thursday, July 14th 9:00-4:00 Safe Sitter Program

Essential skills are taught by registered nurses for boys and girls ages 11 to 14. Registration must be done in the library. There is a $50

fee for the program, which includes all materials. Register in person at the Welcome Desk! Wednesday, July 20th 3:30-4:30 Big Games at the Library hosted by Miss Babs and

Miss Rhonda. Anyone aged 8-14 may register

online. It will be held in the front yard.

Thursday, July 21st 4:00-5:30 Minecraft Modding: Game On!

In this workshop, teens learn how to "mod" or change the Minecraft world with

code! This workshop introduces coding concepts by showing students how to build in the game using the Python programming language on the Raspberry Pi. Sign up online, space is limited.
