Harvest Festival & Livestock Show October 23-26, 2013
ALL ENTRIES INCLUDING HOME ECONOMICS ENTRIES WILL
BE DUE TO THE EXTENSION OFFICE ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2013. MORE INFORMATION TO FOLLOW!
Poultry - Exhibitors may sell only one poultry entry, a pen of broilers or a roaster in the Premium Sale. Reminder: Each exhibitor is limited to enter only one (1) pen of broilers in the Broiler Show and (2) entries per exhibitor in the Roaster Show
Swine, Lambs, and Goats- Must be owned and
cared for by the exhibitor by August 1, 2013. *Swine must be ear notched and a swine validation form must be turned into the Gregg County Extension Office by August 10, 2013 noting notches. Hogs must
weigh a minimum of 220 pounds and a maximum of 280 pounds with a 5 pound tolerance. *Lambs & Goats- must be validated on August 5, 2013,
at the Longview Fairgrounds. Any goat with horns more than 1 inch in length will not be allowed to weigh-in at the show and will be ineligible to show. To show, goats must weigh a minimum of 60 pounds. Goats must have their milk teeth in use at the time of validation. Each exhibitor is limited to entering 2 goats and 2 lambs in the Harvest Festival. Keep in mind that all lambs & goats must be castrated by the validation date. Breeding Heifers- All heifers in the respective breed classes of the breeding beef show shall be registered with that breed association in the name of the exhibitor by October 1, 2013. Heifers must be born between September 1, 2011 and April 30, 2013.
Clover Kids - A poster competition with the theme “A Bountiful Harvest” is offered. Free entry. Also this year, the photography divisions will again only include color and black and white. Other categories are Fine Arts, Handcrafts, Poetry, Pumpkin Carving and Salsa Contest. These entry fees are a dollar per entry.
RABBIT RULES
MEAT PEN RABBITS - Meat pens shall consist of three
rabbits, all of the same breed and variety. Broken
meat pens must also be of the same variety. A meat
pen does not have to come from the same litter.
Meat pen rabbits should not be over 12 weeks old.
WEIGH IN: At weigh in each rabbit will be weighed
individually as per ARBA rules. Minimum weight is
three lbs., maximum weight is five lbs
FRYER SHOW - Meat Pens and exhibitors making
the sale are not eligible for the fryer show. Fryers
need to be checked in at weigh in or can be selected
from non-sale meat pens. (Do not remove original
pen number from rabbits ear.) All rules regarding
meat pens apply to a fryer, with the exception of the
points schedule for the judging for a single fryer.
Uniformity of body and weight of 3 rabbits is not an
issue. There will be a break between the meat pen
judging and the fryer judging to give exhibitors time
to pick a fryer. The exhibitor will be ask to leave their
fryer in the pen and remove the 2 remaining rabbits.
Judging will then proceed the same as for meat pens.
Pens containing 3 rabbits will not be judged. In a
disqualified meat pen it does not necessarily mean
that all the rabbits in this pen are disqualified from
fryer judging. It will be up to the exhibitor to choose
the fryer that shows no disqualifications.
HOME ECONOMICS “Open Harvest” Food Creations will be offered as the Home Economics contest this year. All entries should contain some type of Harvest Food (i.e. basically anything we have had in the past—chocolate, apples, pumpkins, pecans, walnuts, etc.) All entries for this division should not require refrigeration. Be sure to bring the recipe for your entry. All entries are sold for the food creations contest!
State Lamb & Goat Validation
If you plan to show lambs or goats at any of the major stock shows,
your lambs and goats must be validated through the State
Validation program. We need a count of the number of lambs or
goats to be validated so that ear tags can be ordered. Please come
by the Extension Office to order and pay for your tags by August
21, 2013. The cost is $10.00 per tag. Also, validation for breeding
sheep will be $5.00 per head.
Swine Validation for Harvest Festival In order to show swine at the 2013 Harvest Festival Livestock Show, you MUST TURN IN A SWINE VALIDATION FORM BY AUGUST 10, 2013.
