Some possible project ideas are: Create a multimedia presentation (e.g., video, Powerpoint, Prezi, slideshow, etc.) Write a series of journal entries or essay from a particular point of view Construct a diorama Illustrate a comic book or book jacket Research an outside topic that is connected to a theme in the book Design a poster or advertisement Create an mock interview of a character in the book Demonstrate your understanding using multiple Thinking Maps The focus of the Griffin’s Book Club is answering an Essential Question, not necessarily designing or creating the prettiest project. Projects that do not answer an essential question will be returned to the student with feedback to be resubmitted by Monday, October 2 nd , 2017. All students that submitted a project that answered an essential question will be invited to a celebration a week or so after the due date. Students who complete all 4 Griffins Book Club projects this year will be invited to compete in the Griffin Book Club championship in May 2018. Essential Questions 1. What kind of discrimination does Paul face at each middle school? Are there any similarities? 2. One theme of the book is humans trying to suppress, resist, and undermine nature. What are some examples of this theme in the book? 3. Another theme of the book is that though things may appear perfect on the outside, they are falling apart under the surface. How does that apply in this story? 4. Why did Joey Costello act the way he did at Tangerine Middle School? Why could Paul adapt to the new environment while Joey could not? 5. How does Paul's perception of Tangerine change throughout the book? What key events altered his perception? 6. Why does Paul feel that his own life is unlike the lives of Luis and his other Tangerine friends? Why does he feel it is so fragmented?
