I hope all of you had a wonderful

summer even though it was a hot one. I

also hope you got to see our annual

Photo Show in June. It has been called

the best ever and ably chaired by Claudia

Davis with a little help from her friends.

Robin and Warren Heydenberk

staged a most interesting Forum reminisc-

ing with Daniel Dorian and his life story

from World War ll Paris to living in New

York. The charming author had us all

enthralled as he wove his life story.

Thanks to the Heydenberk’s and their

committee for providing a lovely after-

noon.

Joey Nalty and her crew of young-

sters treated us to a Children’s Talent

Show. They had plenty of it.

The Preservation Fund staged its annual

party on what was possibly the hottest night

of the summer. I checked the weather forecast

and it was hotter than Havana, but those

attending had a great time as the Mill was

transformed into a period Cuban nightclub.

We also raised some funds that will help us

update the upstairs lighting. Many thanks to

the loyal committee and the nearly 100 of

you who partied with us.

We now approach our Fall season with

the upcoming 87th juried Art Exhibition

opening September 24 until October 29.

The hours are daily from 1 to 5.

To round out the Fall, the middle 2

weekends of November will feature Fred

Miller and the Phillips’ Mill players bringing

us Johnny Mercer. Thanks to all of you for

your continued support, and we look forward

to seeing many of you at our autumn events.

The 24th Annual Phillips’ Mill Photographic Exhibition

was held on June 5 to June 26. Chairperson Claudia E. Davis

said she heard is called the best show ever!

New this year was the forming of a photo committee to

streamline the show and make it more organized. Volunteers

that helped on this were Bill O’Donnell, acting as treasurer,

Valerie Eastburn, Liz Rizor and MaryKay Darrah. Jurors

were Stephanie Lisle, John Stritzinger and Roberto Quezada.

When asked about jurying the show, John said “How wonderful

it is to say ‘Yes!’ to a photograph! Jurying is such a unique

opportunity to engage in a partnership of exploration, viewing

and discussing the fine work of many artists and then selecting

from a diverse group of images that drew collective hallejuhas

for bold composition, delicate details and exquisite light. Thank

you to all that answered the call for art!”

Best of Show: Sandra Dillon, “Loa in Hotpot by Midnight

Sun”(Iceland)

Best Body of Work: David Ackerman for “Ascent,” “Gla-

cier Perito Moreno,” “Ice Blue Trails,” “Wall of Ice”

Patrons’s Awards:

Donna Lovely, “Chinese Card Players, Kaifeng China”

Evie Billiekiewicz, “Looking Fear”

Susan Kott, “Time One”

William Earle, “Zoe”

Sharon Maloney, “Lines”

Judges Award: Mike Zaikowski with 4 images: “Pinelands,”

“Sheep Shed,” “The Watcher,” Wissahickon”

Spencer Saunders Award: Kristopher Schoenleber “Room

To Roam”

Peoples’ Choice: Gerri Ricci, “Magic” – an iconic image of

a horse peering out of its stable that sold twice.

All in all, 146 images out of 810 entered both digitally and

framed were accepted.

Photographic Exhibition called the “Best Show Ever”

Sheldon Roseman, former juror and retired

advertising photographer and Claudia

Davis, Chairperson of the Photo Show.

Gail Sparrow, Kathy Fernberger and Candy Gallagher.

The Phillips’ Mill children’s theatre presented a

“talent showcase” in July. Youth ages 7 to 16 performed

various talents including solos, duets, Irish dancing,

comedy acts and more. The show was a huge success!

Please check the website in 2017 for information

about next summer’s Children’s Theatre plans.

Welcome to our New Members

We recently lost two active Mill members.

Joanne Keller passed peacefully in April of

this year. Joanne was friend and wife of long time

Mill member, past treasurer and past president David

Keller. We will miss her kind, smiling face in the

audience, encouraging Dave at all his performances

with the drama group.

Jules Smith passed away recently. Jules served

as the DJ at our summer party and was owner of

Annie Hauls.

In Memorium

Greetings from the

Membership CommitteeWe hope you’ve been having the best summer ever and

are ready to attend a couple upcoming Mill events.

You are invited to the 2016 PMAE Meet and Greet on

Friday, October 28 from 6-8 p.m. Note that we have

changed both the day and the time for the convenience of

attendees. Please come see the terrific fall exhibition, catch-

up with your Mill friends, enjoy a glass of wine with some

nibbles, and bring a non-member friend or two. The

PMAE is the Mill’s premier event and an excellent opportu-

nity to show off your membership and introduce new people

to your old friends.

The Lathrop Circle members should have received a

“save the date” email about the upcoming appreciation

reception on October 9 from 4-6. Please check your calen-

dars and make sure you have it written down.

We are kicking off another wonderful year of Mill events

and are looking forward to seeing you at each one.

Thank you,
