    Defining GER

    Gross enrollment rate is the total enrollment

    in primary school, regardless of age, in a given

    year, expressed as a percentage of the official

    school-age population for primary school.

    The purpose of the gross enrollment rate is

    that it shows the general level of participation

    in formal schooling by the childhoodpopulation.

    educational system in relation to the

    population eligible for participation

    in the system.

    EX: a nation has 900,000 people enrolled in

    school(2005/2006) and is divided by:

    Total young population of the nation is

    1,000,000

    90% of the people are enrolled90% is the

    GER of that nation

    A combined gross enrollment ratio (CGER),incorporating all three levels of education, isused to calculate the Human Development

    Index (HDI), an annual gauge of well-being for UN member states. Amongst othermeasures used in the calculation, the CGER isgiven one-third weight in assessing

    the knowledge component, represented bygross enrollment, while the adult literacy rateis assigned two-thirds weight.

    Where did the inspiration come from?

    The data concerning the actual numbers and

    statistics regarding the Gross Enrollment Ratio

    in European Countries(a.k.a. The Bulk Data)

    including Romania came from The National

    Center for Education Statisticswebsite in

    which I have came across with multiple tables

    containing tremendous data that could bedownloaded in an Excel format.

    Using the Data Analysis Tool from Excel

    Central Tendency - the value of the median

    indicates that 50% of the GER values are

    above 105. This indicates that more than a

    half of the European countries are

    theoretically able of accommodating its

    school-aged population.(A gross enrollment

    rate of 100 percent a country is capable toaccommodate all of its school-aged

    population).
