MEET GOLLUM/SMÉAGOL

WHAT'S HIS HISTORY? • Sméagol was born in Verona, Italy, on February 29,1899 to

Athena and Ryan Avellino.

• When he was younger, he was known to be very energetic and

would cause trouble as much as possible; such as playing pranks

on his family and friends.

• Even so, he is now seen as a responsible man who knows the

difference between right and wrong. He also stands up for those

who are in trouble.

• Sméagol became a scientist in order to prove to others that

alternate universes do indeed exist.

• Sméagol is a well known scientist in Verona, Italy and is considered to be well loved by the people he already knows and even more to those he meets. Due to his kind and honest nature, people see him as a dependable and responsible guy who is willing to help them whenever he can.

• Though he is seen as a very sociable guy with a great personality, he is actually very obsessed with proving the world that alternate universes do exist and have existed since the beginning of time.

• It’s because of this obsession that causes him to (sometimes) lash out at others, especially whenever he feels like he is being mocked or insulted, as he feels as if his pride of being a scientist is not being taken seriously.

• In fact, as he became more and more obsessed, he began to close himself off from social interaction. His family and friends became worried when he disappeared for two month’s. ( September-October 1927; at Age 28.)

A normal scientist, before he became obsessed.

• It was on November 2, 1927 when he returned from being missing.

• On his return, he was completely different from before; appearance and personality. His skin had become a sickly pale color, his eyes were bigger and bluer, and he had little to no hair on his head. In terms of personality, he seemed insane, cowardly, cautious. He also had the habit of speaking in third person to himself, it was as if there were two people inside of him.

• People also noticed that he was wearing clothes that have never seen before and that he was also holding what looked like a ring. When they tried to ask him about the ring, he would become protective of it, calling it ‘my precious’. Whenever his family said his name, he would react as if that was never his name to begin with.

• Though insane; Sméagol has said other things; such as “ we did it and none of you believed us” and “ Deagol is gone now, precious is ours”. Of course no one knew what he was talking about and just assumed that he must be suffering from a traumatic event.

• On November 12, 1927; Sméagol's family decided it would be best to send him to a psychiatric hospital, but before they could he disappeared once again, only this time he was gone for good.

• No one really knows where he went as he left nothing behind that could lead him to his location, but some believe that he might have truly found a way to an alternate universe.

HOW & WHY He Has Changed

Sméagol was just an

ordinary looking Hobbit.

500 Years Later…

Over time he just degraded more and more. Both mentally and physically.

He kept the ring way too long . . . . .

How:• Sméagol was just a normal regular hobbit.

• He killed a family member to get/kept the ring

• He turned into a terrible person and mad obsessive scientist.

• He degraded mentally and physically, his body and his mind both weren't the same.

• He was no longer a regular hobbit, he kept the ring so long it changed everything about him.

• Influenced by the ring was pure evilness, in which he encountered that power as well. He

lived a dark life and spent most of the time underground.

• His body than shrank and he came very small, his eyes became bigger and he only had

about 6-8 teeth. Aging very terribly, he had become an evil old Gollum.

• His personality started changing which then soon led to multi-personalities.

• He had a love hate feeling for the ring himself.

Why:

After taking the ring that he would kill to keep, he kept too long the effects started to sink in. The hobbit turned into a Gollum. This is why he started changing over many, many, many years. He lived longer than any other hobbit. If we lived as long as he did I'm sure that is what we would look the same too. Sméagol, the hobbit, Gollum all changed over time because of the RING.
