    INTRODUCTION} As per the latest definition which is effective

    since December 21, 1999, for any industrial

    unit to be regarded as Small Scale Industrialunit the following condition is to be satisfied: -

    } Investment in fixed assets like plants andequipments either held on ownership terms onlease or on hire purchase should not be morethan Rs 10 million.

    } However, the unit in no way can be owned orcontrolled or ancillary of any other industrialunit.

    EXAMPLES: SMES LIKE

    PRESSURE COOKER - COFFEE MAKER

    Cooker has been modified with simple attachment of copperpipe along with pressure releasing valve in the lid. Water isheated for formulating steam over stove, once the steam isformed with sufficient pressure, it is released using the one way

    valve through the copper pipe and collected in jar containingmixture of coffee powder, milk and sugar. After allowingsufficient steam into the jar, one can enjoy the coffee.

    Opportunities: The product can also be used to make tea withtea bags, lemon tea and making soups as is the provision inmodern coffee making machines.

    Performance Parameters: The innovation is first of its kind with nosuch device is available in market. It is very cost effective anddoesnt require electricity.

    Utility: The system has good potential for use in Hotels, smalldhabas and other places who are unable to buy costlier coffeemaking machine.

    Functionality: The normally available system works on electricity

    to heat the water to produce the steam the device does notrequire electricity

    } Product/Process: Production of sugar- free cup cakes.

    } Application/Use: Ready-to-eat snack item intended for diabetic patients.

    } Salient Feature of Process/Technology: Sugar-free cake is a therapeuticbakery product intended for the use of diabetic subjects. The portion sizeof the cup cake being small makes it very convenient for consumption. Itis a novel product with good market potential.
