We are very excited that after extensive conversations and gaining feedback from students and parents alike, our new playground plans are near completion. To ensure different opportunities are provided to talk
through the plans some of our building and ground committee members will be offering a raisin toast and coffee catch up early next term. This will be an opportunity to have a look at the plans, ask questions and gain information first hand. We will send out dates for these catch ups in the next couple of weeks. Disco Thursday 27 September Reception to year 3: 5.30-6:30pm Year 4-7: 6:45-8:15pm A note was sent home last week asking for
parent help. Please consider volunteering half an hour of your time to assist with handing out refreshments. Please return the slip to the front office indicating the time that suits you. Annual General Meeting will be next term Next term we will be having our 2018 AGM on Thursday the 15th of November 6-7pm . The Governing Council wanted to introduce this so as we can celebrate this years work in the year of completion. In term one next year we
will have a Governing Council planning event in between the Early Years and Primary Years acquaintance night. The Governing Council wants to provide a relaxed opportunity to meet all staff and our Governing Council sub-committees. As we share a light snack we can chat and learn about what our active parent committees will be involved in, in 2019. We want to ensure our community is aware of the extensive work these committees do and of course drum up possible members. Thank you to our canteen volunteers Special thanks to the
many parents and the year 7 students, not all represented in this photo, who stepped up and helped run the canteen whilst Karen was on family leave. We appreciate Tamara taking on the Managers role. Tamara regular
volunteers in the canteen with Karen and her commitment during this difficult time was fantastic. Please remember the canteen will be closed on the last day of term for cleaning. There will be no Friday special orders available. Our great kids ... I regularly get phone calls from community members about our student’s outstanding behaviour at public events. This happened again recently when 19E and 8m went to a performance in Norwood. A woman was
waiting at a bus stop and noticed these two classes waiting patiently to move into the Theatre. She noticed how they made room for other pedestrians and followed their teacher’s instructions respectfully and immediately. It made such an impression she had to ring to comment on this as she felt this kind of behaviour can often be the exception not the rule these days. We are very blessed with our great kids! Kind regards Deb Brassington, Principal
Preschool Transition Nikki and I enjoyed immensely taking our new Receptions, for 2019, on a tour of the school last week. The children also had the opportunity to be involved in specialist lessons: Mandarin, Music or PE.

Clothing On your child’s Phys Ed day it is important that they come dressed appropriately for physical activity and with shoes that will support their ankles, no sandals, heeled boots, thin strapped sandals or boots. Long hair needs to be tied back for safety rea-sons. They need to wear a hat when activities are planned for outdoors and if they don’t have one, they will have to sit in the shade and miss a learning opportunity. It is also really important that all students have a drink bottle so they can re-hydrate as they need it. Sunscreen is recommended when we are outdoors.

Performing Arts Term 3 Overviews
Katie Daly Reception Music and Movement Students have been developing an understanding of how movements are made along with music to create a dance. Through imitation and improvisation of movement, the students have learnt a number of dance formations including –
Line dances and Partner dances. Year 3 and 4 The Elements of Dance Students using their skills to create choreographed movement. The use of Space and Formation has been developed through dances learned in class and in choreographing their own. Year 4/5 and 5/6 Communication through Dance Communicating different styles of music has been a focus through the understanding of Dynamics and Relationships. Students worked on a project and presented it as a part of Book Week . Year 6/7 Music and Movement
Students have continued to develop their understanding of the core elements of Dance – Dynamics, Relationships’, Body, Energy, Space and Time. Activities featured formation, storytelling and dancing with props throughout the term. It has been a fun term of moving and grooving in Performing Arts! Katie Kate White The Arts draws together related art forms, developing students’ creativity and skills through making and responding to artworks and considering multiple viewpoints. This can involve students making and responding to artworks using ma-
terials, techniques and technologies from one Arts subject to support learning in another. 15N, 14N & 18N Students have experienced dance from Australian culture, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. They have explored fundamental movements to safely improvise dance ideas and explore movement possibilities in response to a stimulus, such as imagery, music and shared stories. They created steps, sequences and dances in small and large groups and shared performances. 2M & 16N Students are exploring storytelling through drama. Exploring role and dramatic action in dramatic play, improvisation and process drama. They use voice, facial expression, movement and space to imagine and establish role and situation. I am here on Mondays if you ever want to catch up.

Italian Term 3 Overview
Term 3 Italian Overview
During Term 3 students have demonstrated how they would participate in everyday
transactions in obtaining goods by creating a short and imaginative text in the form
of a cartoon strip set in an Italian Market. They have been experimenting with and
developing intonation and pronunciation of Italian specific sounds and rules of
spelling. Learning tasks have included: labelling various foods purchased at a market,
playing the game Memory on Languages Online and Tombola (Bingo) and being
introduced to and revising various key phrases applicable to purchasing goods. They
have used grammatical knowledge, to interpret and create meaning in Italian and
use key grammatical structures such as definite and indefinite articles and gender
and singular/plural forms to create simple sentences. These were then applied in the
dialogue between the characters in their cartoon strips.
Open Night
Thanks to all our staff and
o r g a n i s a t i o n leading to an excellent open night.
Students in 19 E asked for authentic feedback on their learning. This enabled them to improve on their work in preparation for their final assessment later this term.
The preschool was alive with visitors. It was wonderful to see so many families from across the whole school drop in, even if they don’t have children currently in the preschool.
Many different communication mediums were used to share the children's evidence of learning.
Thank you for taking the time out to join us!!!

GPS under 10 ‘s Soccer Carnival On Tuesday 21st August from 6pm - 8.30pm the GPS Under 10s soccer team took part in the Southern District Junior Soccer Association night carnival. The team did a great job and didn’t lose a match that night in the round
robin competition. Coach Bronson Horan has done an awesome job with the team - especially improving their skills and learning about team work. Charlene Rege has been a fantastic coordinator, keeping everyone organised!
Under 10 team includes: Ayan A, Naman M, Devam S, Eamonn H, Fletcher S, Connor D, Hershal R,
Ridhaan S and Felix M
A Community Event … not to be missed!
Sunday Nov 4 The Goodwood Art House Marketplace is a vibrant showcase of local designers and makers from the Adelaide and South Australian community. A bouncy castle for the children, food by Sneaky Pickle
and Whistle and Flute coffee will be available on the day. Our fundraising team have been doing a sensational job
this year. The money raised this year is going toward the redevelopment of the Goody Patch tennis court. The Governing Council have an agreement on giving 7% to a community charity that supports the education of others. Currently we donate to the Sri Lankan Girls orphanage run by Eshantha Ariyadasa a past parent and Governing Council member of our school.
Great Achievements
Bake sale Bebe and Matilda ran a Bake Sale last week raising money for Catherine House. Catherine House is an organisation that helps Homeless Women over 18 years
of age. Bebe’s family has been raising money throughout the year and this was Bebe’s opportunity to contribute. She appreciates our communities support and their bake sale raised $265.90. Bebe and Matilda would like to thank 8M, 19E, 6M and 3M for cooking up a storm to make a difference!
Orienteering Championships A quick wrap up of the SA Schools Orienteering Relay Championships held at Thorndon Park today… We had four seasons in one day, unfortunately summer arrived just as we were leaving. It was another outstanding effort by GPS. We
had the fastest individual time in both the girls (Zoe) and boys (Max) primary. Our “senior” boys team took out first place to retain the Primary Boys Shield for the third year running. The “senior” girls team was also the first in but alas, ran so fast past the controls, missed one. There’s always next year. Our “junior” girls team came third against teams with girls much older. I think the most impressive achievement of all was the effort put in by the juniors, especially the year 2 and 3 kids who had to run the same course against year 7 students! Everyone should be proud to have made it around what turned out to be a very challenging and long course.

Communications Survey Effective communication is vital to maximising engage-ment of families and the community in school activities, and is an important contributor to the strong Goodwood Primary School culture.
Over the years, our parent Governing Council Communi-cations Committee members have been instrumental in making a huge difference to communication efficiencies. For example, following the communications audit lead by this committee in 2013, we have established a new web-site format; introduced Flexi Buzz, an instant app commu-nication medium; begun using electronic forms to gain responses for events and surveys; and supported our class parents in their role. The introduction of QKR was also driven by this group. This year our Communications Governing Council sub-
committee have been involved in a range of projects. This term, the committee has engaged an independent con-sultant, Marc Makrid, to develop a strategy to gain feed-back from you in relation to communication and the com-munity engagement for which Goodwood Primary is known. This survey was emailed to you last Tuesday we encour-age you to take a few moments to provide your valuable feedback. Results of the survey will be collated and com-municated, incorporating a plan on next steps and out-
comes. We thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the survey. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/23JC5JH Kathryn Calaby, Julia Wetherell, Susannah Hayden and Deb Brassington
