Grouping of Baltic N-Z16981+ SNPs

When evaluating the results of Yfulls analysis’s of various BigY tests conducted at FTDNA and by

reviewing these tests it was found that it might be possible to identify and significantly increase our

knowledge of the SNP structure of the Balts (Baltic peoples).

The genetic Z16981 Balts separated from other Balts at their common marker SNP N-M2783 and to

date can be characterized by the recently discovered mutations, which share Z16981 Balts into

different subclades: Z16981/Y4756 (C to G) pos.23815649

Reference material of FTDNA 2.10.2016

By analyzing the results from various projects at FTDNA we have found 76 results that contain

one or more of the newly discovered mutations Z16981+, Z16980+, CTS8173+.

29 of these results were identified by the BigY tests of which 19 were later confirmed by

undergoing YFull analyzes, a further 36 results were found after undergoing FTDNA’s Advanced

Testing or with N-SNP-Pack.

Nine results are tested by YSEQ DNA Origins Project.

Three samples are from Estonian Biocentre.

Comparison of the new SNPs

It seems that YFull’s BAM-analyze gives better results than FTDNA’s BigY Browser.

BigY Browser finds well Z16981, but Z16980 and CTS8173 are not often found, when same time

YFull analyze find them with high quality.

Group-1: SNP N-Z16981+

Z16981+ is the ground SNP for this Baltic branch.

#B67305, #247648, #440636 can also be next younger experimental SNP Z17082+,

but STR markers are closer to Z16981+

YFull’s STR Variants: DYS522=14, DYS389i=13, DYS389ii=29 works perfect.

Group-2: N-Z16981>Z17082>Z16980+ (CTS8173+)

In this group has 18 results. For #167322, #N139742, #381748 and #GS35027 this location looks so

far the terminal SNP. #403211, #221297 and #E13999 have possibility to Y15922+ and A11470+.

Other 11 samples of group may have possibility to group younger branches like Y6075+, Y11882+,

Y15922+, A11470+, L709+, but more detailed study is needed.

All samples have STR DYS385b=14/15.

#N139742,#239065 DYS391=10.

#N23774 and #314529 DYS413=21-21 might indicate to move Y11882+

#403211 and #E13999 share DYS385b=15 and DYS413=22-22.

Any other STR connections are difficult to find.

STR Markers

29 of 111 markers correlate 100% for Baltic Z16981, so they are more than 2600 years old.

DYS426=11, DYS454=12, DYS437=14, DYS448=19, DYS438=10, DYS531=11, DYS578=8, DYS537=8,

Some STR markers looks very private like DYS393=12, DYS388=14, DYS459b=10, YCAII=18-

These markers are also assumed older than 2600 years, but listed alleles are young, just a few

hundred years.

Fluxus STR analyzes

Next diagram is made by STR67 markers and subclade SNPs of N-Z16981+.

Main weight is placed to SNPs and STR weight is calculated from Baltic Z16981 frequency of

changes.

The results looks a little bit complicated, because during 2600 years STR markers are changed

much and so count of vectors is huge. But still subclades (different colors) forms clear to

homogeneous areas. All yellow samples are not tested to the end, so maybe this gives an

indication.

The Grouping in graphical form:

The branch of Baltic Z16981 starts from N-M2783 and the basic SNP is Z16981+.

The 77 results clearly prove that the SNP N-Z16981 (C to G) pos.2385649 is the identification for

these Balts.

This grouping has the same structure as ISOGG and YFull’s N-Tree, adding with found new genetic

branches, (green colored points).
