CHDEDH BELL{A daily paper)

El Ren3, Oklahoma Territory

This issue was published on the eye of election

The first free paper published west of the

Mississippi River. It was called the CHUiKJH BELL

on Sunday, the SUPF2R BELL eviry other day, unless

for .some reason a morning edition was found neces-

aary, then it was called the BREAKFAST. B3LL,

IS HE OR ISN'T HE?

In another column Judge Bush gives his opinion

as to his eligibility for the office of city attorney.

An SI Heno lawyer, having a similar article in the

STAR," asks the people to read the following ex-

cerpts from the Oklahoma laws, together with his .

comments. All.persons who have resided for 30

days next preceding such election in the city'inv"

* which they may offer to vote and for tan. days in the

ward in which iihey may offer to vote and who are

qualified electors of the Territory, at time of

such election shall, be qualified to vote thereat,

(Sec, 5 Art, 1 Chap, 14 - state Okla). Now', if

Judge Bush made final proof of his claim west of

city on the 13th day of March last, he neces-

sarily had to make affidavit that he resided in

said claim at that time and he would not be a

legal voter in El Reno until the 13th day of this

month (April) one week after election. The

statute further says;- All officers elected or

appointed shall be qualified .electors of said city:

(Sec, 11,,Article 1(Chapter 14, statutes of Oklahoma).

To a disinterested observer, it would appear •

that this last provision;makes it absolutely impos-

sible for Mr. Bush %o fill the office even if

elected. *t '

THE CHARGE IS FALSE,

*I hope no one will be deceived or misledy'

by the false charge that^I am ineligible to the.t

office of City Attorney, . •

The charge sprung on the eve of the elec-'

tion for the purpose of unfairly affecting my v

chances at' the polls.

I am eligible to the office according to every

legal test, and there is no doubt of it.

W V W . BUSH.

There is nothing but honor in the office of -

school treasurer but honors will rest easy upon

the shoulders of James S. Kelso.

• THIS FOR PRAISE.

I& there 'Is"in El Reno a man who is quali~

fied for the office that he asks for that man is

B. B. Burrell. . If. there is in El Reno a man who

is a man no matter where you meet him B. B* .Bur-

rell is that man.

When fcne votes are counted Tuesday night, Mr,

Burrell will begin to add "City Clerk* to his

regular signatuije.
