From Fr. Mark Mertes, Pastor: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a

son, And they shall call him Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.” (Matthew 18.23 and Isaiah 7.14)

At the moment of our baptism we were incorpo-rated into Christ so that we might become living signs of His love. That’s what the sacraments are all about, helping to make visible God’s mysteri-ous and hidden Love. Today we hear how in a perfect way Mary became a living sign of God’s love. Her YES and the Holy Spirit’s power allowed Jesus to be conceived and grow within her womb. In her bringing to birth Jesus Christ, Mary made the invisible love of God visible. She now inter-cedes for us so we too can bring Christ to birth in our lives. At our Christmas gatherings and mass-es and parties let us recognize: Christ born in our ability to forgive a family

member Christ shining in the smiles of our elderly Christ present in those who are troubled this

winter season Christ revealed in our generous sharing of our

time, talent and treasure. May we all be sacraments,

living signs of God’s Christmas love!

nuestro talento, tesoro y tiempo. ¡Que todos seamos sacramentos,

signos vivos del amor navideño de Dios!

Cursillo Winter Retreat Open to All Adults

Dr. Ralph Martin will speak on Living as a Catholic in Challenging Times at the Cursillo winter retreat on Saturday, February 1 at Savior Pastoral Center. The event will highlight the New Evangelization and the Link of Holiness to Evangelization. This retreat fits in nicely with our Archdiocesan call from the Convocation to bring others closer to the Sac-raments so they can benefit from a deeper rela-tionship with Christ and the Church. His talks will identify the reasons why our evangelization is more important now than ever before. The Retreat will run from 8 am–3 pm and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Cost is $45 per person. Res-ervations required. Attendees can pay with cash or check at the door. Reservations can be made on line at www.CursilloKCKS.com or by calling Jean Snyder at 913-217-7269. Any adults are welcome to attend. Dr. Martin will also have his books and literature available for purchase at the event.
