Fair Animal Arrival All animals must have a Vet inspection to attend county fair. There are 2 ways for you to accomplish this requirement. 1. Have your animal inspected by the Vet at your home and bring the certificate of inspection with

you to the fair. (This will cost you whatever your vet charges.) With this certificate, you may bring animals to the fair at your convenience.

2. Bring your animal to the fair during the following times and the inspection will be done free by a Vet on the Fairgrounds.

Monday - 6:00pm-8:00pm Tuesday - 6:00am-9:00am

**Animals may not arrive prior to 2:00pm Monday, July 22nd

Poultry Exhibitors

• Officials have granted a waiver until August 31, 2019 for all poultry

exhibitions

• No Pullorum-Typhoid testing will be needed for county fair or the

State Fair

• The requirements for all birds to originate from PT-free flocks is also lifted

until August 31, 2019

Auction

“DISCLOSURE STATEMENT:” Any beef, swine, sheep, or goats being considered for auction

must be listed on the disclosure statement, with treatment records listed if applicable. Turn this in

during Fair week prior to sale.

• Animals changing ownership after being identified for a project are ineligible to be exhibited as

4-H animals for that 4-H year. Animals offered for sale in an animal auction are considered to

have changed ownership even if bought back by the original owner or if the owner refuses a

bid or says, "No Sale." If you are exhibiting an animal you plan to show at the State Fair or at

the County Fair, be sure to remember this.

• Forms can be found under “Animal Care/Disclosure Forms (Drug Affidavits)” at

https://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/livestock-id

During Livestock Shows

To help ensure the safety of all, ONLY THE CURRENT EXHIBITOR(S) AND ONE ADULT

ASSISTANT MAY BE IN THE STAGING AREA. Spectators must view the show in another

location. Please share this request with family and friends attending the shows.

Pre-Fair Clean-Up

• Mark your calendars……the Fair Committee & Extension Staff invites all 4-H members, parents,

and leaders to assist with fair clean up on Thursday, July 18th beginning at 5 p.m.

• Groups are also welcome (and encouraged) to hold workdays/ground improvements at other

times. Contact a fair board member for more information.

4-H Foundation Silent Auction

• 4-H Clubs are being asked to provide one silent auction basket or item to be displayed in the

4-H Building during the fair. These items will be bid on Tuesday-Saturday of the fair. All

proceeds to benefit the Louisa County 4-H Foundation.

We Need your HELP!!

• Youth & adult volunteers are needed to help during the fair. The 4-H Fair Committee & Fair

Board members volunteer many hours but also need your help to keep the fair running. Just a

few hours of your time during fair makes a big difference.

volunteer than to be assigned) or even close the building during those un-hosted hours. No

volunteers, no building.

• Sign up here https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084CA9AB2CA6FC1-4hbuilding

• 4-H BUILDING HOSTS: Parents and other adult family members are asked to assist the youth in

watching the 4-H exhibit building. Shifts are two hours in length throughout the fair.

4-H Conference/Static Judging A STATIC EXHIBIT IS ANY NON-ANIMAL EXHIBIT. ALL STATIC EXHIBITS ARE JUDGED ON

MONDAY, JULY 22ND, DURING “CONFERENCE” JUDGING. READ THIS PAGE FOR MORE

INSTRUCTIONS.

All exhibits must be pre-entered! Deadline July 17th louisa.fairenty.com

Entry Tag—Each exhibit will receive a pre-printed

Entry Tag at Check in on Monday morning. These

tags will then be attached to your exhibits.

Goal Sheet (one for each exhibit) Goal sheets must

be complete before judging. Any goal sheet

requested on judging day will cost $1.

Premiums—As soon as ALL of your static exhibits

have been judged Check Out at the Ribbon tent on

the west side of the Youth Center. All Premium

checks will be printed at the conclusion of Fair and

sent to your club leaders.

Judging will take place in the Youth Center. You

will enter in through the East entrance under the

awning and exit to the west by the campers.

Plan on arriving 10 minutes before your

scheduled club time to check-in. Those who

have a conflict with their assigned judging time

should contact the Extension Office before fair.

Wear your 4-H attire! Plain white shirt, 4-H Shirt

or Exhibitor shirt!!

Remember it helps to speak clearly & make eye

contact during your conference judging

experience.

Parents are not allowed at the judging table.

Parents may enter the Youth Center to check

in & take a picture and then must leave.

Too many bodies in the doorways creates

confusion for youth being judged and volunteers

assisting with the judging process. Youth are

allowed to record their judging if they would like.

GOAL SHEETS

The Goal Sheet forms are at the Extension

Office and online:

extension.iastate.edu/louisa/countyfair

There are 3 different goal sheets:

~Goal Sheet

~Photo Goal Sheet

~Poster Goal Sheet

A goal sheet is required for each 4-H static

exhibit that you bring to conference judging on

July 22nd. The more descriptive you are the

better. The actual goal sheet form does not have

to be used—just make sure the questions are

answered.

These questions are the same questions that

the judges will ask during conference judging:

1) What did you plan to learn or do?

2) What steps did you take to learn or do this?

Explain what you did so it is easily

understood. The judge wants to know and

understand the steps you used to make

your exhibit.

3) What were the most important things you

learned?

Judging Schedule:

9:00 - Cloverleaf 9:30 - CC Wildcats & JCAB

9:45 - Wamaco 10:00 - Letts Go

10:30 - Green Team 10:45 - Guys ‘n Gals

Copyright

As 4-H’ers prepare exhibits for the fair they need to be particularly aware of copyright rules. A

copyright design cannot be displayed in a public setting (fair) without permission being

granted from the owner of the copyright.

Duplication of copyright material or design should not be used in a 4-H exhibit that is presented as

original work by the exhibitor. Pay special attention to paintings, drawings, sketches, etc. that are

based on another work (ex: photo, calendar, painting). A red flag should go up anytime the source

is given as “photo from a magazine”, “photo from the Internet”, “photo in a book”. These would all

be considered derivative works and only the copyright holder can authorize a derivative work.

Unless the original work is in the public domain (generally pre-1923), permission needs to be

obtained for the member to exhibit these types of pieces at the Iowa State Fair. If the source or

permission is questionable, that item will not likely be selected for exhibit at the state fair.

• Instructions on how to obtain permission to use copyright materials and a sample letter can be

found here: https://www.extension.iastate.edu/johnson/sites/www.extension.iastate.edu/files/
