PURPOSE
The purpose of this newslet-ter is to inform you of theplanned geometric improve-
ments at the intersection ofGrubb Road and Blaine
Drive. Please refer to the lo-
cation map on the back. Theplans include the installationof new concrete medians andcrosswalks. This project will
improve safety for both traf-fic operations and pedestrian
access.
INTRODUCTION
The Montgomery CountyDepartment of Transporta-
tions (MCDOT) Division ofTraffic Engineering and Op-erations (DTEO) has com-
pleted engineering studies,evaluations, and recommen-
dations that warrant safetyimprovements to enhancetraffic operations and pedes-
trian access.
SCOPE OF PROJECT
Contractors will install new
concrete traffic medianscrosswalks. This includesassociated curb and gutterand sidewalk modificationsnecessary to ensure compli-
ance with Americans WithDisabilities Act (ADA) stan-dards. MCDOTs Division of
Highway Services (DHS)will be managing the planned
IMPACTS
All construction work will be
scheduled between the hours
of 7 am and 5 pm, Monday
though Friday. Continuous
traffic will be maintained at
all times.
This project will necessitate
temporary lane closures and
temporary parking restric-
tions. Signs will be posted
identifying such restrictions.
Access to homes will be
available at all times, however
minor delays may be experi-
enced as flaggers manually
direct traffic safely through
the construction zone.
This type of project is gener-
ally characterized by some
noise and dust. Please rest
assured that DHS will do its
best to keep the site in good
housekeeping order.
We apologize in advance for
any unavoidable inconven-
ience that the Grubb Road
traffic project may cause. We
are confident that residentsand users of Grubb Road will
welcome the results of this
project.

PROJECT WORK PLAN
Generally, the work will pro-
ceed as follows:
1. Stake out the modifica-
tions in accordance to theplan.
2. Establish temporary MOTlane changes with temporarysigns, pavement markings,
and traffic drums or cones.
3. Construct new crosswalks,medians, and ADA wheel-
chair ramps.
4. Complete patching of theroadway in areas affected by
construction.
5. Install permanent traffic
signs and pavement mark-
ings.
SCHEDULE
This project is scheduled to
begin on or about June 29,2010 and should be com-
pleted within a few weeks,weather permitting. The traf-
fic project, and associatedrepair work will be sched-uled between the hours of 7
am and 5 pm, MondayThrough Friday. Temporarytraffic control devices willremain in place until the pro-
ject is completed.
