In 1961, Ed Grist, the city meat inspector
created a festival to honor sausage. The
Mayor at the time proclaimed this Saturday
as a one-day affair which climaxed a week
of activity featuring sausage dishes on
menus of local cafes and specials on sausage
products in local meat markets and grocery
stores. The first year was a “Sausage
Festival”, later “Wurt Week” and finally
“Wurstfest”. The first Wurstfest drew a
crowd of 2,000 sausage lovers. Today, our
city draws hundreds of thousands. This
year, Wurstfest will begin on Fri Nov 2 and
end on Sun Nov 11, 2018. The times are
Fri 4-11pm, Sat 11am-Midnight, Sun 11am-
10pm, Mon-Wed 5pm-10pm and
Thurs-Fri 5pm-11pm.

SAME KIND OF DIFFERENT AS ME …
by Ron Hall and Denver Moore
This is a wonderful read about a true story. Denver
Moore grew up in Louisiana in the 1960’s, working on
a a plantation as a modern-day slave. Ron Hall is an
international arts dealer who moves between upscale
New York galleries and celebrities. It seems unlikely
that these two men would meet under normal
circumstances. Until Deborah Hall, Ron’s wife meets Denver and sees him
through God’s eyes of compassion. When Deborah is diagnosed with cancer
she charges Ron with the mission of saving Denver. From this request, an
extraordinary friendship forms between Denver and Ron, changing them both
forever.
