Additional Information for Units sold inGreat Britain

Units sold in GB are suitable for operation from a 240 V AC, 50Hz mains supply.

In case this appliance is supplied with a Safety Standard Appro-ved mains lead fitted with a non-rewireable 13 Amp mains plugwhich, if unsuitable for your socket, should be cut off and anappropriate plug fitted by a qualified electrician. The fuse andfuse holder must be removed from the plug as accidental inser-tion of the redundant plug into a 13 Amp socket is likely to causean electrical hazard.

Note: The severed plug must be destroyed to avoid a possibleshock hazard should it be inserted into a 13 Amp socketelsewhere.

If it is necessary to change the fuse in the non-rewireable plug, the correct type and rating (5 Amp ASTA or BSI approved BS1362) must be used and the fuse cover must be refitted. If thefuse cover is lost or damaged the lead and plug must not beused until a replacement is obtained. Replacement fuse coversshould be obtained from your dealer.

If a non-rewireable plug or a rewireable 13 Amp (BS 1363) plugis used, it must be fitted with a 5 Amp ASTA or BSI approved BS1362 fuse. If any other type of plug is used it must be protectedby a 5 Amp fuse either in the plug or at the distribution board.

Important:The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with thefollowing code:BLUE – NEUTRALBROWN – LIVEAs the colours of the wires in the mains lead of your appliancemay not correspond with the coloured marking identifying theterminals in your plug, proceed as follows:Connect the BLUE coloured wire to plug terminal marked withthe letter "N" or coloured black.Connect the BROWN coloured wire to the plug terminal markedwith a letter "L" or coloured red.In no circumstance must any of the wires be connected to theterminal marked with a letter "E", earth symbol , colouredgreen or green and yellow.

Replacement mains lead can be obtained from yourdealer.

General

The head station STC 332 is a modular system forthe reception and conversion of analog satellite programmes (radio and TV), digital satellite pro-grammes (radio und DVB TV = Digital Video Broad-casting), as well as terrestrial radio and TV pro-grammes.Users connected to the system can receive inde-pendently of each other all analog and digital satel-lite programmes of the satellite selected.

According to the cassette type used, the receivedsatellite signals are converted into an FM and astandard TV channel.

The head station can also convert digital satellitesignals into a QAM or PAL output signal.

As the system is built-up with plug-in modules, it ispossible to equip it with up to 16 cassettes. Depen-ding on the equipment variant, up to 32 TV or 64radio programmes can be processed.

The cassettes comprise a satellite tuner, a demodu-lator, audio and video processors, as well as amodulator suitable for adjacent channel processing.

The central switched-mode mains unit supplies theoperating voltage via a contact bar in parallel to the16 cassette locations. The central control unit isconnected via I2C bus bars (SDA, SCL) with thecassettes. The user is guided by the two-line dis-play on the control unit.

! Always make sure that the head station is not exposed to dripping or splashing water. Recommended place of installation: indoors!

Fixation

The head station can either be placed on a flat surface or be fixed to a wall by means of the moun-ting material supplied.

Mounting material:

3 plastic pegs, 50 mm x 10 mm Ø

3 hexagon-headed screws, 65 mm x 8 mm Ø

The figures below show the rear side of the headstation with the 3 fixing rails, as well as the frontside with the measures necessary for a professio-nal fixation to the wall.

Drill the holes, insert the plastic pegs, screw inthe hexagon-headed screws then hook in the headstation.

To prevent the head station from being lifted, it ispossible to use a safety screw in the centre holewhich is accessible from the front side.

! It is absolutely necessary to make sure that the fixa-tion is able to carry the weight (60 kg) of the headstation.

2

1

Installation

! Heat build-up will shorten the life of all electricalappliances and is a source of danger

! Heat develops inside the housing of the head sta-tion which must be able to escape. Therefore never cover the ventilation slots in thetop and bottom parts of the housing.

! Do not place several head stations on top of eachother.

! The head station must only be operated in verticalposition.

! If several head stations are installed adjacent toeach other, a minimum distance of approx. 30 cmmust be kept in sideward direction.

Plug connections (e.g. of descramblers) can beeasily connected to the bottom cartridges if theholding clips of the bottom SAT input distributor areoffset to the right and fastened with the screws ´`(see illustration).

Mains connection

! When installing and before operating the head station, check to see whether the earth connectionconforms with the valid VDE regulations 0855.

Connect the head station to a mains voltage of 220 . . . 240 V~, 50/60 Hz.

! The head station can only be switched off by pullingthe mains plug.

! Before changing the power supply unit, first dis-connect the mains plug from the wall outlet thenüull out the other end of the mains cable from thepower supply unit (on the intermediate plate of thehead station).

Connection

! Before inserting new or replacing existing casset-tes, it is absolutely necessary to disconnect themains plug!

First remove the corresponding fixing screws fromthe holding frame, then insert the cassettes (e.gfrom left to right) into the free plug-in locations, and finally fix them with the screws removed be-forehand.

4 spare screws are fixed to the holding frame.

When the head station is connected to the mainssupply, all cassettes are automatically connectedvia the plug-in connectors on the contact rail withthe required operating voltages supplied by theswitched-mode mains unit.

It is possible to connect every SAT cassette to oneof the 4 input distributors. Each of the 4 input distributors is suited for remotepower supply, that is the LNC’s can be supplied withthe operating voltage of +18 V DC/1 A.

! When installing SAT cassettes of the HRM 12xx series, the entire current consumption of all com-ponents connected to the 4 input splitters (e.g.LNC's, multi-switches) must not exceed 0.25 A.

! When operating with Twin-LNCs.

To be able to adjust the vertical polarisation withTwin-LNCs, the corresponding supply plug (LNCvoltage +18 volts) for the relevant HF inputs (A, Bor C, D) must be removed of bottom base plate ofthis head station before inserting the cassette(s)(see illustration opposite).

! If necessary, remove cassette(s) beforehand.

All output signals of the cassettes are added up inthe output collector then passed on to the hybridamplifier. The hybrid amplifier allows for an output level ofmax. 104 dBµV. The operating voltage of 24 V DCrequired for this is supplied by the switched-modemains unit.

The level controls at the front side enable a preciseadjustment of the output signals.

An additional monitor output (approximately -20 dB) enables the connection of a measuring TVreceiver for service or monitoring.

It is possible to operate head stations with less than16 twin or single cassettes, and several head sta-tions can be linked (see page 8).

In the case of service it will suffice to replace thedefective cassette with one of the same type; it willbe programmed automatically.

Pre-punched holes which can be pushed out foradditional antenna inputs ´I and for connectingexternal appliances ´? (e.g. descrambler via AV Eurocable) make retrofitting easier.
