ANNUAL QUALITY ASSURANCE REPORT 2010-2011

Part A:

In the beginning of the session 2010-2011, the IQAC, after discussion with its members had chalked out an extensive action plan to be implemented during the session. The IQAC had aimed at accomplishing some set targets as follows:

• To start CA/CPT guidance and counselling for Under-graduate students.

• To conduct short term Certificate Course in English communication for students.

• To conduct various curricular, co-curricular and extra curricular activities through various

committees cells/clubs.

• To motivate teachers to undertake Major & Minor Research Projects.

• To organize GSCOMNEXT 2010: Academic Mega Event inclusive of Public Lectures of

Eminent personalities & sharing success stories of Entrepreneurs, Businessman etc. & also

organize Inter-collegiate Debate, Quiz & paper presentation competition.

• To conduct ICT awareness programme for teaching & non-teaching staff.

• To organise guest lectures on soft skills for non-teaching staff.

• To organize Guest Lectures, Seminars, Symposia for students and faculties.

• Expansion of Institution – Industry linkages.

• To set up new Computer Lab.

• To upgrade the existing infrastructure facilities.

• To avail INFLIBNET’s N-LIST services in the library to the students and faculties.

• Conducting various activities through Career guidance & Entrepreneurship Development Cell.

• MOU with NGOs.

Part B

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution:

The vision and mission of the college is its guiding force to achieve its goals and objectives. The vision

is to create a team of competent and able students who are equipped with the latest knowledge, skills,

technology and entrepreneurial skills imbued with human values. Thus the mission is to provide values

based quality education at an affordable cost. All the activities and initiatives are planned to achieve the

set goals.

An environment conducive for learning is provided through its vast infrastructure equipped with up-to-

date facilities like spacious classrooms, play grounds, a rich centralized library, e-facilities, gymnasium,

computer labs, seminar hall, canteen and hostel.

Clean and transparent administration by the management and its commitment towards ‘ethical value

based education’ propels the college forward on the path of excellence.

The academic programmes and the curricular & extra-curricular activities planned and carried out help

to groom the personality of the students by developing various qualities in them and prepare them for

the global competition.

It gives us pleasure to present the various initiatives taken during 2010-11 which include various

academic activities, co-curricular activities, extra-curricular activities, and extension activities for the

benefit of students.

2. New academic programmes initiated (UG and PG):

i. CPT Preparatory course: The College established the CA Guidance Bureau to provide in house

guidance to the students who are aspiring for CA. The CPT preparation course was conducted

during session 2010-2011. Total 23 students were admitted in the course. Total 18 students

appeared for the Common Proficiency Test. 10 students passed CPT examination conducted by

ICAI, New Delhi.

ii. Certificate Course in English Proficiency: To enhance the spoken and written skills of

students in English, a short term certificate course was designed by Dept. of English and was

successfully conducted.

iii. Preparatory course for MH-CET examination: The College designed an in-house extensive

preparatory course for the students aspiring for MBA entrance MH-CET.

3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction:

i. The syllabus of our regular courses like B.COM, M.COM, BCCA, BBA, MBA are designed by

R.T.M. Nagpur University. The college on its part implements the syllabus and their revised

versions if any from time to time.

ii. Innovative approach to learning is carried out by conducting the following activities.

• Industrial visits • Seminars & Project work • Guest faculty from other institutions of repute and Industry • Students’ participation in national seminars and presentation of papers.

iii. Need based short term courses are designed and conducted by our college from time to time. In

this session we conducted the CA-CPT Preparatory course, English proficiency course and MBA

entrance preparatory course.

iv. The Curricular Aspect Committee of the college suggested improvement/restructuring in the

syllabus of different subjects of UG and PG courses and same were forwarded to the University

for necessary changes.

4. Inter-disciplinary programmes started:

The R.T.M.Nagpur University is considering to start multi disciplinary approach for various courses in

the coming years.

5. Examination reforms implemented:

Since college is affiliated to R.T.M.Nagpur University, we implemented the examination pattern &

reforms suggested by University from time to time. We conducted unit test, class test, and annual text

examination at college level for continuous evaluation of students. Apart from this, home assignments,

students’ seminars, projects, group discussions also form a part of students’ evaluation.

The college has conducted following programmes for the faculty members during the session

2010-2011.

i. Faculty Development Programme: The College has organized a week long faculty

development programme in the month of April 2011. The eminent personalities/

academicians were invited to deliver guest lecturers/power-point presentation etc. during

the programme.

ii. Computer Awareness Programme: The faculty members of college attended One

month Computer Awareness Programme organized by IT Department during Summer

2011.

On-going Research Project:

i) Dr. Devender Kawday is working on a Major Research Project of UGC (New-Delhi) on the topic “A study of the effect of Privatization on Higher Education in Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University – A Critical Analysis”.

ii) Dr.Anil Sarda is working on a Minor Research Project under UGC on the topic ‘“The Reforms in Capital Market and investors’ satisfaction – An Analytical study of Retail Investors of Nagpur District of Vidarbha”.

c) Prof. Mrs. Deoyani Chavan has submitted a Minor Research Project for the approval of the UGC (Pune) on the topic “A study of self Narratives by Doctors in Marathi Literature – A social perspective”.

d) Prof. Mrs. Shubhangi D. Morey has submitted a Minor Research Project for the approval of the UGC (Pune) on the topic “The study of financial performance of ACC limited (formerly known as ‘The Associated cement companies limited) – An Analytical approach (1-01-2008 to 31-12-2010)”.

e) Prof.Ms. Veena D. Nagdive has submitted a Minor Research Project for the approval of the UGC (Pune) on the topic “An analytical study of contribution of state bank of India in the growth of small scale industries in Nagpur district (2007 to 2010)”.

h) Prof. Ms. Rashi Arora has submitted a Minor Research Project for the approval of the UGC (Pune) on the topic “Role of women entrepreneurs in the economic development of Vidarbha with reference to Micro enterprises”.

The following teachers were awarded PhD. for their research work.

• Ph. D awarded to Mr. P. M. Paradkar for the research entitled ‘Role played by Indian Library Association (ILA) and Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres(IASLIC) in the field of Librarianship: A Comparative study’ by R.T.M.Nagpur University, Nagpur.

The following non-teaching staff member was awarded PhD. for his research work. • PhD. awarded to Mr. V. Sharma for the research entitled ‘Effect of heavy metals on the Biology

of the earthworm eudrillus eugeniae and it’s role in vermiconversion’ by R.T.M.Nagpur University, Nagpur.

• Free Internet facility on 15 computers was provided to students and staff in the library.

• Library provided Inflibnet NLIST facility to the students and staff members. More than 50000 e-

books and 2100 e-journals were availed in this scheme. This facllity is available to users

facilities for teachers and students. The teachers & students are provided free unlimited access to

broadband facility for academic purpose.

31 Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher Association:

A meeting of Parent-Teacher was held on 12th Dec.2010. The parents were intimated about the

progress of their wards and various facilities available in the College. The parents were given

feedback forms for seeking their opinion regarding the improvement in the present facilities.

A medical examination camp for health check up of students was organized. The students were

medically examined by team of doctors. A first aid box is provided in sports department and

office of A.O. for all students.

Incentive marks are given to students participating in Sports, NSS, NCC & cultural activities

according to R.T.M. Nagpur University Scheme. The students participating in inter college

tournaments were provided with kits and refreshments. The students participating

National/State/University sports events were provided with track suits and honour with

certificate, medals etc.

The following activities were carried out by the Career Guidance & Placement Cell during the

year 2010-2011.

• Regularly displaying of Advertisements and notification on notice board about Public service

commission examination, Competitive examination, Entrance test for various premier

institutions, training programmes etc.

• Conselling and guidance were provided to the students about various courses, examinations and

usage of study material in reference section.

• Job festival by Wipro BPO was held in the college on 19th July 2010.Stdudents from different

colleges participated.

• Guest lecture on ‘Goal Setting’ was organized in the college on 13th August 2010. Dr. Nitin

Vighne, Career counselor and HRD Trainer interacted with the students.

• 13 students of the college attended workshop on ‘Employability skills’ at G.H. Raisoni Academy

for Human Excellence on 25th Sept. 2010.

• Campus interviews of multinational company IBM were held on 8th Dec. 2010.

• Guest lecture on Soft skills, Employability skills and C.V.writing was organized during 20-22nd

Dec. 2010.

The following activities were carried out by the Career Guidance & Placement Cell during the

year 2010-2011.

• Organized a campus recruitment programme for the post of Executive Operations(Tele-

Marketing) in collaboration with IBM Daksh on 8th Dec.2010. Total 83 students were appeared

in the interview. 11 students selected and received offer letter.

• Organized a campus recruitment programme of ICICI Securities for the post of Relationship

Manager on 8th Jan. 2011. Total 25 students appeared and 2 students selected and received offer

letter.

• Computer Awareness programme was organized with the help of IT department for the non-

teaching staff.

• The non-teaching staff was motivated to improve their academic qualifications and also deputed

for training course/workshops etc.

As a member of Cluster of Colleges ‘Indradhanu’ we have linkages with seven other prominent

colleges in the city and nearby. The ‘Indradhanu’ Cluster conducts various academic and other

activities. Our college actively participated in these activities.

• The college is centrally located with eco-friendly campus having ample space for parking, sport

grounds, gymnasium, hostel facility to boys etc.

• Our college has conducted various examinations for Govt. of Maharashtra, Nationalized Banks,

• The college has successfully conducted Academic Mega event during 27-28th Dec.2010. In the

programme of Public lecture, Dr. Mrs. Apoorva Palkar, Director, Sinhagad Institute of

Management and Computer Application, Pune enlightened the students on subject ‘Designing

Career in Corporate world’. Shri. Sanjay Bhargava, General Secretary, Shiksha Mandal, Wardha

deliver a lecture on topic ‘Economics in and of the real world’. In the interactive session both the

speakers responded the queries of the students. On the second day of event renowned CA

Jaydeep Shah delivered a lecture on ‘Current trends in Commerce Education’. He apprised the

students on recent global trends in Commerce. In interactive session he answered various queries

raised by students. In the ‘Sharing Nagpur Success stories’ a very unique & lively interview

session was organized. Mr. Sanjay Arora, CEO, Shells Advertising Inc. and Mr. Jaysingh

Chavan, renowned Industrialist & Director, Ranjana Group of Industries.

• The college organized Intercollegiate Competitions, Verbattle: Debate Competition, Mind

Manthan: Business Quiz and Jigyasa: paper presentation. In the industry stall exhibit, few

companies were invited to share their information and job opportunities for the Commerce

students.

• ‘Prof. V. R. Jog Marathi Wachak Spardha’ State level competition was organized by the college

on 24th Dec. 2010.

• Our faculty is regularly publishing in Journals/Periodicals/Seminar-conference
