“I’ve had so many blessings in my life, I justhave to give back.”– Jacqueline Mock

Grateful for the skilled and compassionate care her husband received in2000 when he was a patient on Good Shepherd’s brain injury unit,Jacqueline Mock of Kunkletown gave from the heart in establishing theWalter W. and Jacqueline G. Mock Fund for Pediatrics with a generous$255,000 donation. “When Walter left after three weeks, he was able towalk with a walker and feed himself,” Jacqueline says. “I started giving toGood Shepherd but all the time I thought I wanted to do more, given theopportunity.” That opportunity came in 2007 when Jacqueline sold 55 ofher 77 acres of bucolic property to Eldred Township in Monroe Countyensuring its perpetual conservation while allowing her to continue to livethere. She used a portion of the proceeds to set up the endowment, whichstands as a tribute to her benevolence and that of her late husband, whodied in 2001. The gift to pediatrics was a natural choice for Jacqueline, aninternationally renowned lecturer on children’s author Beatrix Potter, whosefirst book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, was written in 1893 as a “pictureletter” to cheer up a 5-year-old boy stricken with polio. Invalid childrenwere a major charitable interest of Beatrix Potter her entire life. “That’swhat swayed me towards pediatrics,” Jacqueline says. “I didn’t havechildren and this gives me an opportunity to do something for children.”

“There’s an inner satisfaction I getknowing I’ve been able to makethis gift and be around to see thebenefits of it. That’s deeplyfulfilling.”– Karl R. Reichstadter

Karl R. Reichstadter is a man of discriminatingtaste. That is clearly evident in the beautifulobjects d’art that adorn his comfortableLehighton home. That same sense ofdiscrimination applies to his philanthropy, which extends far and wide throughout theLehigh Valley, including a generous gift annuitymade to Good Shepherd. Diagnosed withmultiple sclerosis in 1975, Karl chose todesignate his gift to support Good Shepherd’sMS Wellness Program, of which he is afounding member.

“The Century Fund trusteesrecognized long ago theimportance of Work Services andits essential role in our society.Good Shepherd fills a vital needthat not only enriches the lives ofpeople with disabilities but alsoour community as a whole.”– Jack Leh, trustee, and Lisa Curran, executive

director, Century Fund

For more than two decades, the Allentown-based Century Fund has been one of theLehigh Valley’s most notable philanthropicfoundations. Since 1991, Good Shepherd’sWork Services program is blessed to beincluded in the fund’s charitable fold. Founded in 1985 by the late Morning Call publisher Donald P. Miller, the CenturyFund reaffirmed its commitment to Good Shepherd in 2008 with a generous grant that helps support job training andemployment for people with disabilities.
