Project background

10

1. GS1 Hungary’s successful pilot phase

2. GS1 Hungary proposed to extend the pilot to other countries and establish the basis of a global or regional system for MOs to verify GS1 GCPs

3. Support the GTIN intelligence activities

Project goals and objectives

11

1. Starts: January 2012 - Ends: July 2012

2. Real-time, user friendly mobile application to verify GS1 GCPs for the whole GS1 community:

• Report showing the results of the pilot testing in as many countries as possible

• Summary report and a common agreed process for verification

• Upgrade the application based on the feedback from the participants of the pilot

• Recommendation for the further development, hosting and maintenance

• ~1 month test period

• ~ 60 testers from 12 MO-s

• ~ 10,000. records • 7,306 scans (without duplications and

server errors)

• 6316 valid

• 454 faulted

• 536 invalid

Valid; 86.45

%

In-valid; 7.34%

Faulted; 6.21%

GS1 Logger Staff – statistics & results 2.

15

• Testers from 12 European Countries

• GCP-s from ~ 40 Countries from all over the world

• Invalid GCP-s from 40 Countries

• Reasons of invalidity• Fantasy / fictitious figures

• Already cancelled or revoked GCP

• False use or misuse of a correct GCP (e.g. 1 owner but 3 companies -> same GCP)

GEPIR for Staff…

• The Logger for Staff is connected to the Hungarian GEPIR router

• During the pilot we detected some discrepancies in the GEPIR network

• 37 routers were affected by Logger scans• 20 of them did not worked properly

• Issues experienced:– Daily request limit exceeded (although GS1 HU router is v3.1) (10 routers!)– Empty gepirParty response with RC 0 (no error)– Response: Unknown country prefix (RC 5)– Response: Server error (RC 99)

GS1 MOs can provide solutions based on GEPIR (e.g. for premium users) only if the GEPIR network is reliable

Location identification with GLN Location Database

18

GS1 standard based location identification

• GLN Location DB based on GPS coordinates (GLN to each settlement in Hungary)

• Identification of Locations on 4 levels

• Complete constructed hierarchy from country to each property

• In accordance with the government authority databases

Key learnings:

1. The Good:12 MO is joining the project, more than 10,000 GTIN scanned, more than 500 invalid ID-Keys found

2. the Bad:no common agreed process how to manage the invalid GTIN-s

3. and the Ugly:the GEPIR network is often unable to handle the queries

And the winner is…

• Our `agent` who found the most invalid GTINs wins an iPad 2.

• The game started at midnight , 23 January 12.00 and ended at midnight on 13 February!
