PAWS IN THE PARK
The “Paws in the Park 2018” event was held on Sunday 6th May at Camden Bicentennial Equestrian Park
and was very successful exposing our breed and the German Shepherd Dog league of NSW to the general
public.
The event consisted of more than 50 information stalls and displays as well as demonstrations, free vet
checks, tips on pet ownership, food stalls, fun activities and lots more.
Thank you to Rod and Dianne for helping to set up the League stall and to Terry, Tony and Emma for
helping out on the day. Thanks also to club members who brought their dogs out to socialise. This was an
excellently run event and was most enjoyable. The dogs were excellent ambassadors for the breed.
Many queries about training and the GSDL were recieved, and membership forms and information sheets
were handed out.
Several photos were also featured in the Camden Advertiser.
Is there somewhere you feel we should be?
Please contact our Publicity Officer Karen Stevenson for information on any public events of with any
publicity ideas!
Next event is ‘Dogs On Show’ on Sat 16th June at the Dogs NSW Grounds 9am – 4pm All Welcome!

UK CHAMPION VENEZE CHAOS (IMP UK)
2008 – 2018
VA SCH2 KKL LBZ (YENNO V HUHNEGRAB X VENEZE ADA)
Leeanne and Jo and all at Cinderhof GSDs are mourning the loss of a real ‘Queen Bee’ in Ch Veneze Chaos who was
given peace on 24th April after sudden and decisive illness.
Chaos had lived in five countries and competed in as many, travelling with Jo to Australia to enjoy her retirement;
she was a highly successful show bitch with 3 UK CCs and 2 Res CCs to her name as well as a UK national win, good
placings in Germany and three European CACIBs – two with BOB. Her main achievement of course was VA2 and
Reserve Siegerin in the UK under Herr Nordseik SV in 2010 when she was also the UKs top winning GSD.
She is mother of *UK Ch Veneze Immy, Veneze Ozzey, *V Nanii v Cinderhof and most recently Cinderhof Charlii AZ
and Cinderhof Chipsii AZ. Her breed survey verification was completed by Fay Stokes in 2015.
Having travelled to countless shows, on any feasible trip judging with mum, to all training meets, and every trip out
shopping (where she would search the bags for the treat which was ALWAYS there – she ended her life a very
special girl with many friends among the fraternity, she will be missed, not least by Jo, her human….
RIP Cakester – one in a million.

On Feb 24 2018, New Zealand opened its official war animal memorial at the National Army Museum,
Waiouru. It is a spectacular location surround by the Army training grounds and several National parks.
It was a fitting tribute during the centenary of WWI to honour the deeds and sacrifices of New Zealand’s
war animals. Over 10,000 horses left NZ in WWI only five ever returned. Today the Army and Air Force
employ Military Working Dogs (MWD).
The ceremony was attended by around 200 people including the Chief of Army, Representatives from the
NZ SPCA, Veterans Affairs and RSA. Animals present at the ceremony were horses, MWDs, pigeons,
mules and donkeys. A tribute was also given by AWAMO to the head of New Zealand’s Veterinary
Association to honour the Veterinary Corps. This will be placed at Massey University the home of NZ
veterinary college.
Amongst the official guests was ex-RAVC W/O Mick Martin who was presented a special trophy by
AWAMO President Nigel Allsopp recognizing Mick as the “Father” of NZ MWDs.
Deputy Mayor of Toowoomba City, Artist Susan Bahary and President of AWAMO Nigel Allsopp next to
memorial. Behind mounted a NZ and Australian WWI riders, with Centurion Tank behind them. The animal
memorial is out the front of this beautiful museum.
As part of AWAMO charity we always sponsor a local animal cause in the area that we establish a
memorial. In NZ AWAMO has donated a $1000 worth of purple poppy merchandise that will be donated to
the Kaimanawa heritage Horse Society to aid the local wild horses around Waiouru. A fitting charity due to
the location of the memorial and the wild horses running wild within the Army training area nearby. For

We love dogs because they are sweet, they are cute and they are loyal. Many dogs treat their owners as
their family. Here we want to share a touching story….
Dog Lived Next To His Owner’s Grave For 11 Years, And Recently He Was Found …
Captain is a German Shepherd. His owner Miguel Guzman died in 2006 and was buried in a cemetery in Cordoba,
Argentina. A day after his funeral, the German Shepherd was found to be missing. Mr. Guzman’s wife and son
searched for the dog everywhere, but in vain.
Months later, they eventually found him in the village where his owner had been buried, which was a 45 minute
drive from their home.
They said it was a mystery how Captain found the grave, because he had not been taken there before. They tried
taking him home several times, but the dog always ran back to the grave.
Eventually, they understood that nothing they did could ever fill the void in Captains heart, so they let him be there.
Over the years, cemetery workers have been feeding and caring for Captain. They said that it seemed as if he was
waiting for the day when they will finally be reunited.
Sadly the loyal dog was recently found dead next to his owners’ grave – having slept there every night for 11 years.
Cemetery workers said that the dog had been fifteen years old and he had lost his sight almost completely and could
barely walk.
Aldo Cecchi, a canine trainer, said that Captain’s story is proof that dogs are linked to their owners’ energy. “Dogs
detect electromagnetic changes and sound waves. If Captain intertwined his morphic field with that of his master,
he was able to find the place he was buried in,’” he said.
Whatever explanation you agree with, one thing is for sure – Captain was living proof of the loyalty that dogs are
capable of towards their owners.

OBEDIENCE TRAINING – MONTHLY ‘BONE AWARD WINNERS’
(From our obedience co-ordinator Kathie Minton)
Tuesday obedience training has started a monthly awards competition. We call it "the bone award". Each instructor
hands out a bone award or two to chosen dog and handler combinations each night at training. These are awarded
for instructors choice - for example dog with fastest recall. The bone awards are placed into a tin and one is drawn
each month. The prize is free training for the next month plus your photo in the Shepherd News and on the GSDL
website. At the end of the year the combination with the most bone awards in the tin will receive a trophy at
presentation night.
February's winner was Wayne and Kellie
March’s winner was Wayne and Kellie again
Aprils winner was Rain and Milo
February and March winner Wayne with his dog Kellie April winner Rain with her dog Milo
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS AND THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN RECEIVING BONE AWARDS – KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
TO ALL OUR LEAGUE BREEDERS!!!
PLEASE REMEMBER - PUPPY BUYERS NEED HELP!!!
We would encourage all league breeders to guide new owners in the right direction by providing details of the GSDL
of NSW (or the nearest appropriate state club), and mentioning availability of obedience training for puppies and
older dogs.
Please remember that introductory league membership is available for new owners and our very informative puppy
booklets can be obtained from Mechandising (Pam Jarvis)
