GSM-R CR Report
• The new CR Process in place since beginning 2009• The process involves CER, EIM, ERA and UIC. UNISIG involved
when the CRs touches ETCS
2009 Results:• 38 Change Requests delivered towards ERA (through CER&EIM)• 20 already treated in the ERA Final Assessment meetings• Other 17 will be studied in next EFA meeting, in February• TSI Index 48 – Cab Radio Test Cases finalized. They are in
process to be transferred to ERA • 19 IRs analyzed by the PreQ until now
The next EIRENE Version 7.1/15.1 is under discussionDeadline was postponed to March 2010

GPRS for ETCS
Work ongoing to complete the feasibility studyUNISIG agreed on last ERA CG meeting that the specs on their side shall be ready “12-18 months” from the moment when EEIG/ERA indicates GPRS as a bearer for ETCS
Test Cases were revised, version 0.5 was sent to UNISIG and commented. Ping pong ongoing, results expected soon
Tests on GPRS behavior, performed also in HS mobility condition – are considered finalized. No major concern
Based on the UNISIG traffic model, next test campaign is under preparation. Major partners on IG side: NSN and Comtest
ETMS Platform Steering Committee -02.12.2009 10
• Discussions with BV to host both lab and field tests
• Target is fulfilling the commitment: Feasibility study finalizedbefore end March 2010
• Related European Funding in the frame of Ten-T 2007-2013 application resolution awaited
!!High dependence on Railways to perform the Test Campaign!!Allocated funds (100 kEuros) forces to compromises

GSM-R Frequency Management
ETMS Platform Steering Committee -02.12.2009 12
GSM-R signals
UMTS 900
signals
FrequencyRegulator
Solution: Reduce the signal level for UMTS and LTE close to railways, or reduce the out of band emission mask
Maximum allowedinterference in GSM-R band,
-107dBm/200kHz at 4m height
925MHz
Signals from UMTS 900 are ”leaking ” into the GSM-R band – legal out of band
emission!
! GSM-R Frequencies Interferences – blocking situations are increasing, expected to “explode”
ETMS Platform Steering Committee -02.12.2009 13
Actions Taken
(Long Term) GSM-R frequencies interference issue was submitted to ETSI , to start a so called Special Task Force (STF), which will:– Revise the UMTS 900 out of band emissions– Adapt the Cab Radio blocking conditions/performances – Guidelines for cooperation between Mobile Operators and
Railways, when in rail proximity
(Short term) Filtering or similar solutions (at least for EDOR’s) issue are under study in UIC Operators Group – as short term solution. A proposal for improved radio modules, seen as cheaper is under study
ETMS Platform Steering Committee -02.12.2009 14
• The SI 7 WG, working for the CEPT will have the kick off meeting on UM TS900 interferences on GSM-R in 9-10 of December 2009, in Paris. Main task is the develop the previous described guidelines, but also to see what is the main cause:– UMTS specifications?– GSM-R radio modules behavior?– Bad behavior ( allowed transmission level exceeded)?
This issue is seen as one of the biggest threats for GSM-R therefore ERTMS; is solutions will not be found, the increasing blocking situations will strongly affect ERTMS in the future
ETMS Platform Steering Committee -02.12.2009 15
Additional Frequencies
• 02(05) and 04(06) are now finalized (Approved in July 2009)• It allows Railways to ask for up to additional 3 MHz in the PMR/PAMR
bandwidth• No products developed so far• DB has already applied for additional 3 MHz paired• Main usage - additional important applications like shunting, etc.
!!!If Railways will not ask for frequencies or at least inform the regulators that in future they might be interested, in 5 years, we will lose this opportunity!

ETL GTIP?
• As presented in October 2008, ETL is an acronym for the GSM-R European Test Lab
• Work have been performed in 2008 to study the preconditions of an ETL
• Participants were DB, RFF, RFI, Nortel, NSN, ERA, UIC• We reinforce our conclusions on the need of such a Lab, and on the
negative consequences if this concept would not be considered
• We remind you the ETL objectives, presented in the October 2008 CG:
ETMS Platform Steering Committee -02.12.2009 17
ETL Objectives / Functionalities
A. Objectives / functionalities for the ETL
1. All GSM-R subsystems (NSS, BSS, CAB, Handhelds, EDOR, FTSS) 2. European Validation for new subsystems 3. Validation on a new EIRENE Version5. * National Project Validation Phase6. * Additional activities
B. Possible GSM-R IG activities:
1 Prerelease Documentation2. Maintenance Process – for the maintenance products which does not
affect interoperability, in which case a certificate stating this will be released.
