Course DescriptionThe long journey of patients and clinicians from an untreatable terminal illness to a treatable chronic disease has brought with it new questions, challenges and complexities of care. Multiple antiretroviral medications, drug-drug interactions, long term toxicities and the desire of our patients to live full lives despite their infection means that clinicians must focus their attention on the steps necessary to guarantee the best outcomes for their patients. This year the Symposium will review those issues that are most likely to affect our patients’ lives.

Program ObjectivesAfter participating in this CME activity, attendees will be able to:• examine outcomes and survival in HIV infected patients • discuss the occurrence and management of metabolic complications of

HIV therapy. • describe the drug-drug interactions that occur between antiretrovirals and

the subsequent dose adjustments required. • recognize how antiretroviral treatment could differ in the presence of

chronic renal failure & discuss risk factors, presentation, diagnosis, and management of nephropathy in HIV+ patients.

• discuss the clinical presentation, differential diagnosis and management of HIV dementia and other neurological complications of HIV disease.

Target AudienceThe content of this symposium will be invaluable for any healthcare provider seeking a comprehensive update in HIV/AIDS care. The program is designed for Physicians, Advanced Practice Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Nurses, Oral Health Providers, Pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals interested in clinical HIV/AIDS topics.

CreditThis activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essentials Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for CME (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the Tennessee AIDS Education and Training Center, the Comprehensive Care Center, Vanderbilt School of Medicine, Vanderbilt-Meharry Center for AIDS Research and Vanderbilt Clinical Trials Center.
